aacpmas 2016/2017 cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I sent my MCAT scores but didn't get a confirmation email that they were sent. Is this normal? I found out my score a few days ago so do i need to update anything as well?

Yes that's normal, I didn't receive a confirmation email either. If you go to the "Check Status" tab on AACPMAS, it should show a green checkmark next to "Standardized Tests" if your MCAT scores have been received.

Does anybody know where to send recommendation letters for CSPM? I can't find it on Interfolio. I called the admissions department and all they told me is that it should be on there. Has anybody been able to find it?

Also where have you guys been sending your rec letters for AZPOD?

you currently in school taking classes too?

What Bob said. This isn't normal.

Your GPAs are higher than mine and I got plenty of interview invites.

I promise you at least 2-3 of the 9 will send you an invite.

What was your MCAT retake? Your GPAs and ECs are well into average matriculant ranges.

I just took it today, so all they had was my old MCAT.

Can someone rank the schools from best to worst in their opinion? I'm applying to MD right now, so after I finish my secondaries I will move onto this application.
GPA-3.93, 500 MCAT, athletic and mathematics tutor, undergraduate social psychology research assistant, shadowing hours, etc. I just have no idea about any of these schools. I know tons about all of the different medical schools, but this is new territory for me. Any help is much appreciated!

Search function. Use it.

Each school will give you a well rounded education and you'll pass your boards.

You'll know what school you belong at once you pass interviews.

Stop looking for backup plans and focus on getting into your MD program.

And please use the search function. You look a little ignorant right now.

"Don't tell me about DO because I'm not going to".

Seriously man?

Have you shadowed? You'll have to answer the question "Why podiatry" and they'll also know you've applied MD before.

Your GPA is terrific and your MCAT is nothing to yawn at.

Podiatry is different and you will not see the same diversity medically or surgically as MD/DO.

Okay, hold up. I'm a girl, first off. Secondly, I was just looking for someone's personal opinion. I know the stats and I know some stuff about each individual school, but I was looking for a current applicants perspective. Also, I'm not using this as a back up. It's an equal option with my MD schools. I'm just applying MD first because they're due sooner. I've shadowed two different podiatric surgeons. Also, I can't apply to DO bc I don't have letters of rec from a doctor of osteopathic medicine bc I never shadowed them. I don't know if you're aware, but that's a stipulation of that application. Don't assume certain things based on past schema, man.

This is opinion...1-3 no order Temple, Des Moines, and Western. 4-6 again no order Kent, School, Midwester 7-9 again no order New York, Cali, Barry.

I do like what Weirdy said though, all will give you a rounded education and the interview is probably most important. All have strengths and weaknesses and I think as an applicant you need to identify your strength and weaknesses to find the best match for you. For the most part all school are pretty forthcoming with their statistics. I like to go directly to their websites, they are all listed on the aacpm.org.

My honest mistake. I really did assume you were one of those people so I apologize for that. I will not retract my "man" statement because I call everyone that regardless of gender.

For rankings - Depends on what you're filtering with. GPA? MCAT? Board pass rates? Residency placement? Class size? Weather? Cross-training with MD/DO? Research vs non-research heavy? There are specific trends.

This is really helpful, I appreciate it. What about Barry? Is there another name for the school I am not aware of that you used?

Does anyone know who conducts the interviews at Temple. Is it the dean, students. Or is it always different.

I never shadowed a DO and have 11 interviews at DO schools. The majority of DO schools do not require it.

Has anyone filled out the DPM mentor form on the aacpm website? Will that be a good resource for shadowing?

I did it and never heard back from them. But maybe they just didn't find anyone in my area.

Have you tried local practices/ med centers?
Maybe contact the schools specifically near your state and see if they can hook you up with alumni?

I plan to this week. Does anyone have any ideas if I would have better chances with private practices or group practices?

3.15 cGPA
3.1 sGPA
496 MCAT
50+ hours of shadowing PT, shadowed Pod freshmen year of college, loved it. Had a change of major, haven't shadowed since but scheduled shadowing next Monday with more dates after, pretty solid LOR's, planned 250 hour internship at local clinic next semester.
Applying to NYCPM, Barry, Temple, Scholl, Kent State, and DMU

You would probably have good luck with either. The first DPM I shadowed had a private practice. Scheduling shadowing sessions was a pretty easy process, just ask to get in contact with the office administrator/surgery scheduler and they should be able to easily schedule you in. The second DPM I shadowed worked in a group practice but I asked to be put into contact with the office administrator/surgery scheduler of a specific DPM within that practice. I looked up all the DPMs at that practice and asked "can I speak to Dr. ____'s office administrator" and they put me through and she was easily able to schedule me in. Of course, some DPMs will be jerks about it but just keep calling because there are plenty out there who are willing to have you!

I tried group practice. One told me no and the other told me to "Go shadow an ER doc".

Private practice I've had better returns.
Same with med centers but the med centers are really busy and take forever for you to get the necessary paperwork approved to be in the facility.

Shouldn't be a prob. All GPA and MCAT ranges within average for matriculants.

Just got an early invitation interview from CSPM SMU. Has anybody else gotten this? What are the interviews like? Do you remember any of the questions and how should I prepare for the interview? This is my first one, so I am not sure how to practice.

Got Kent before CSPM. What date are you going?

Past threads say its a bit more intense than Kent because its with Dean Venson.

EDIT: have you dug around the Interview section of SDN? Can file questions by each school. A few that I've seen repeated:

Tell us about yourself
Why podiatry?
Tell us about your shadowing
Some of these grades were low, why is that so?
Describe some of the research you were doing
How will you be able to handle the course load?
Do you have any questions for us? (SDN also has questions to ask, or PM me for questions I've compiled from pre-med section which were mostly related to clinicals/externships)

Got invites to everywhere without sending in LORS. Scholl was the only one pending my LORS. Did not apply to NYCPM or Temple so can't speak for them.

I havent completely decided yet, but I think I am going to go on Oct. 31st.

I see. Definitely check out the interview section. Should be highlighted on top in prepod forums.

Be ready to explain any and everything on your file.

Half of it is them making sure you're a normal functioning human being with people person skills . The other half is making sure you have the numbers to do well in school.

You got an invite for a reason. Copy and paste some questions and start practicing! Maybe also consider scheduling mock interviews at your university if you're still in school. Pre-health as well school of business usually conduct them for students.

My app got verified today, any idea how long it could be before I hear from schools?

Generic prompts like that you kind of have to come up with questions by yourself. Here are some off the top of my head:

How will you contribute to Scholl's diversity and school?
How is being a first generation student an advantage?
The diversity you bring, how will it help you become a better podiatrist?
Why is diversity important to you?
Why is diversity important to the patient base you will be seeing?
Where will you practice when you get out? Will diversity help you with this patient base?
