So I wanted to tutor some high schoolers in the ACT in order to build a resume...
I took it as a junior in HS and got a 26. I figured to be qualified to teach the ACT, I needed a better score so I decided to retake it.

After college level courses I figured I would ACE the ACT. However, I got a 26 on the practice one I took.

Did I not get smarter since I took the ACT four years ago??

Also, if I could not improve my ACT score after four years of college how will I possibly increase my MCAT practice score?

I am nervous,

Thank you

uhh i dont know how this bodes for your mcat, you could be a bad test taker, which would explain the bad score even with the (supposed) increase in knowledge.

(i tutor ACT students so I know from experience the following)
also id say the ACT depends on your major. if you havent had any math in 4 years then maybe that caused a big score dip. if youre a science/engineering/math major... well you should still be able to do really well on the math section. english requires pretty much basic understanding of punctuation, syntax, grammar. reading is like the MCAT reading except questions are simpler, but you also have a lot less time. science is like reading comprehension to the max, graphs and what not.

so some of the sections arent exactly book smarts, theyre specific test skills such as the timed critical reading, or analyzing ACT style science passages.

overall you should analyze how you took the test and see if the issue is test taking skills. those can be improved. as for specific subject matter..... well you shouldnt tutor anybody until youre scoring like 30+ at the least, most parents/tutoring companies want people who scored like 33 or higher.

Standardized test taking is merely a skill, like throwing a curve ball or pole vaulting. Therefore, practice a LOT.

Go to your school's education specialists and see how they can help you.

Funnily enough, I got the same score on the ACT as I did on my MCAT.
If that's true for you, you'll at least have a good shot at DO schools!:)
