how do med schools factor in the distribution for each test date.. or do they? it seems that a 30 in august 2004 is more equivalent to a 31 in april 2005, percentages-wise. but do med schools only look at raw scores or do they care at all about distribution?

Percentage wise that is true, but there are more retakers for the August exam than the April exam.

They don't care about distribution. The MCAT sets its raw to scaled score conversion based on percentiles and thus there should be roughly the same number of people in each score category each time. That should be true within a point on each section, which is the statistical significance of the test.
