This is thread is for anyone who may have questions about the Podiatry / Podiatric Surgery profession and training. I am a practicing Podiatric Surgeon and will be more than happy to answer any questions to the best of my knowledge.

My question may seem confusing but I am new to the pre-pod forum (was pre-dent, considering switching over) and am trying to get a grasp for everything.
This is more of a curious question as to after podiatry school with the whole residency program situation. So I understand upon graduation from pod school you have to do a 2 or 3 year residency (3 year preferred).
Applying: What is the normal procedure to applying for a residency? What if I want to do a more sports medicine directed study? Do most people wanting to do this shadow Orthopedic Surgeons? What is the average pay during this time? Do places help you with housing?
Upon Graduation: Do most people try to open their own practice? Work as an associate somewhere? A hospital? How does one get into the athletics field (sports med podiatry) after graduation? Wouldn't more people want an Orthopedic Surgeon rather than a Podiatrist? But then, if you had an ankle injury, wouldn't you want someone who specializes in ankles vs someone who has done the procedure many times less? I really want to do stuff sports related. Growing up a soccer player, I've been to my fair share of podiatrist and orthopedics and I want to be on the other side now, helping children through their injuries and continuing to play. I posted elsewhere, I have this "dream" of being "that guy" you go to when you have an ankle injury, as their are the best of the specialists for knee, etc injuries for orthopedic surgeons.

Come on down to the Mentor Forum to get all your questions answered! :)

Gangrene - can i pay you to get an avatar more like gustydoc's??? $20!

I don't think that FootAnklesX would mind if you copied some of the questions and answers and brought them over here for students to look at in this forum. Feel free to do so.

Here's how:

1. Make a new thread: Questions and Answers from the Mentor Forum

2. Copy the questions and the answers you want and copy and paste them into the new thread like so:

Q: What is a podiatrist?

A: He works with feet.

3. Post a link to the mentor forum that says:

To ask FootAnklesX (our podiatry mentor) more questions, please visit the Mentor Forum.

4. Lock the thread.

5. Update it as often as you want.

What do you think of this idea?
