Hey all,
Could you guys help me figure out what schools would be within my range and what schools aren't? My biggest concern is that my research credentials aren't particularly impressive. I found most of my time was sunk into my extracurriculars...
Louisiana Resident traditional, Philosophy and Neuroscience BS Degree, Asian (if that matters)
cGPA: 3.936
sGPA: 3.86
MCAT: 38 (12/13/13 PS VR BS)
-Clinical volunteer activities
Two summers volunteering in a hospital (about 100 hrs/per summer, 100 hrs in Cancer Center, 100 hrs in ER)
-Physician shadowing (include specialties and total hours)
Winter break shadowing a family physician (80-100 hrs?)
-Research
One summer of research in a Neurosurgery primate lab (Poster presentation, no published paper), regular 5 day, 8 hr work week
A year of cellular research in a Learning & Memory Lab (No presentation), 10-15 hrs a week
-Nonclinical volunteer activities
Debate coaching for about a year (both high school and middle school) (2 hours a week, plus lesson prep time, + 8-12 more for tournament weekends)
Debate judging for about three years (both high school and middle school) (8-12 per tournament weekend, about 8-10 tournaments a year)
-Employment
German/Slavic Dept Administrative Aide for about three semesters and two summers (15 hrs a week)
Jewish Studies Administrative Aide for a summer (15 hrs a week)
-Extracurricular
Collegiate Debate Team President/Captain for about three and a half years (2 hours of practice a week, entire weekends dedicated to tournaments, 6 tournaments a year, usually go to 5)
Philosophy Club President for about a year (2 hours of meeting a week)
Neuroscience Association Publicity Chair for 3 years (2 hours a week for officer meetings, plus planning)
Honors Fraternity Brother
Are these realistic schools?
LSU Health Sciences
LSU Shreveport
Tulane
Vanderbilt <-- top choice
Boston U
Emory
Georgetown <-- second choice
Oregon Med
Uni Colorado, Boulder <-- third choice
Brown
As you can tell, I have a pretty rounded profile with liberal arts, rather than a strong research background. Could anyone who has more experience detail what schools would appreciate this well-roundness, or what schools might be a good fit for me, student population wise?
Thanks!!!
