Some selected quotes from the article:

Your medical treatments will be tracked electronically by a federal system. Having electronic medical records at your fingertips, easily transferred to a hospital, is beneficial. It will help avoid duplicate tests and errors.

Sounds like a great idea until.....

But the bill goes further. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and "guide" your doctor's decisions

Sweet big brother at its finest!!! My Doctor will no longer determine how best to treat me. I wonder what the AMA will say about this?

Daschle says health-care reform "will not be pain free." Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt.

Awesome...old people should just accept being old sucks and die so the rest of can have cheap health care. Awesome plan...until you are on of the old people......

I am now officially worried about the direction our country is headed. Scary times folks....

So basically, the gov't will be doing what the insurance companies are doing right now?

Meh. Big Brother, Big Capitalist...same difference...

I can't wait to be told what patients I have to let die by a bunch of unelected, potentially uneducated, ignorant, and likely corrupt beaurocrats... that will be a good time ....

I'm actually in favor of this move.

I don't mind having a "health card" that contains all my health info. If I was to end up in an ER, I want them scan my card and know exactly what medical history I have. This will streamline and improve efficiency of how healthcare is provided. Also, I don't mind CMS monitoring physicians and hospitals in an effort to make sure healthcare is practiced, billded, operated properly.

Now, I don't know about senior citizens "accepting the conditions." What's that mean??

Awesome...old people should just accept being old sucks and die so the rest of can have cheap health care. Awesome plan...until you are on of the old people

Actually this makes sense. For the elderly, some conditions if treated can cause higher mortality such as HTN and prostate cancer if diagnosed at a certain age.

well it's not an election year, just wait til 2010...all this will be swept under the rug and it'll be freebie time for all the senior citizens.

Cost control measures (like electronic record keeping) are required for ANY social health care initiative. That is where this is all going. The only real question that remains:

Will we be a Canada, UK, Germany, or Japan form of social health care???

I'm not sure how I feel about the whole deal yet... Time will tell.

~above~

Let's just avoid Japan's model, they treat their physicians like **** and pay them like ****.

I like the German, Swiss, or French models. And since everyone's salaries will no doubt go down under such a system, can we just go ahead and subsidize everybody's tuition already?

Thanks

scaremongering vs fearmongering??? Any difference?

Fear-mongering is one of the first businesses ever invented.

"You're gonna die then go to hell!" "unless....Ok, give me 10% of your earnings then go tell 10 people to come see me and give me 10% of their earning." "Oh..bring a lamb..we have to sacrifice it because you've sinned." And the lamb says..."Bahhhh.. what did I do??"

Then again, no Fear-mongering is complete without some sort of commercialism..

"Buy gold and hedge against inflation..let me show you how..."
"Global warming.. send a check payable to Green World Foundation.."
"Y2K and the world will stop... Let me show you some batteries and propane cookers..."

.......

Dude.. you ever wonder why there aren't any global warming gatherings in the winter?

You know, it hasn't been that long since we got out of the Ice age... and of course it's getting warmer.. how much did the ave temp go up in the last 100 years? .5 degrees? Yeah...Carbon emission by man went up a lot...yet it's still less than 10% of the total carbon emission? Or much less?

You know..warmer earth may not be a bad thing.

"If you don't take these drugs, you're gonna die." Hell, our livelihood is hedged upon the fear of death. At least we have evidence backing up our claims, though.

For real, why are people so afraid of the gov't, but they are perfectly fine with a bunch of capitalists, whose job is to ruthlessly cut costs to make shareholders happy, making healthcare decisions?

House #1 A 20 room mansion ( not including 8 bathrooms ) heated by
natural gas. Add on a pool ( and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400. per month. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not situated in a Northern or Midwestern 'snow belt' area. It's in the South.

House #2
Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every 'green' feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet ( 4 bedrooms ) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground.

The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas and it consumes one-quarter electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape.

HOUSE #1 is outside of Nashville, Tennessee; it is the abode of the 'environmentalist ' Al Gore.
HOUSE #2 is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas; it is the residence the of the President of the United States,
George W. Bush.

And out of fear of government, they're willing to pay 'way more money for the ruthless capitalists to run health care.

Could it be that the o/p quotes an article put out by a right-wing think tank in the pocket of a health care industry that's out to scare-monger (fear-monger?) about single-payer health care, now that a Democratic administration is in power?

Naw...

Yeah, disprove global warming and climate change because Al Gore is the most popular person trying to make people aware. Glad he's around for you guys to talk about otherwise you'd have to actually back up your idiot hand-waving arguments with science rather than "humor."

Anyway I won't waste anyone's time trying to convert either of you (zyvox, Mountain) since you're both so clearly off the deep end. Pity.

I was waiting for that...Eveything is biased in someway....Do not let that be the only rerason you discount the points made in the article.

I've decided politics and pharmacy don't mix well. Can't we all just be friends and have some beers together?

We can all ride in my Prius to the local pub.

Remember, zyvox and mountain are pretty old compared to us. There is a generation gap between them and us. Not zyvox and mountain specifically but their generation is the entitlement generation. They will leave our generation with their failed legency.

Simmer down little fella...no need to get your panties in a bunch over a couple of posts.

off the deep and and pity? LOL! I never said there isn't a climate change. I said we came out of an ice age...so it's getting warmer.

What is crock of chit is that the claime man made CO2 production causes the greenhouse effect thereby increasing the temperature. And that was what Al Gore's movie/book was all about. It's totally false.

The main contributor to greenhouse effect is water vapor in the atmosphere and the solar acitivity. Alright, you want to add CO2 to the argument? Tell me...what % of CO2 in the Atmosphere is due to human acitivities?

Chit... The temperature went up little less than 1 degree past 130 years.. even that's questionable..

More CO2 and warmer climate would do wonders for agriculture.. and feed the poor.

See, this right here, this reveals to me that you don't really know what you're talking about. Ever heard of hurricanes? Floods? Yeah? k. Anyway whatever, the scientific community has its consensus, and I'm happy to tentatively accept that. I'm definitely not going to disbelieve in something because my favorite right wing AM radio host told me to. At least you're acknowledging a changing climate, I'll give you that. But I don't want to debate any of this.

Electronic medical records with some form of government oversight is good for the people of the US, just as it has been good for the vast majority of citizens in other first world nations. I am sick and tired of oligarchs reaping the benefits of extracting high premiums from low-risk patients only to punt the high-risk ones off to medicaid and medicare once they're too sick, old or poor. It's bull****.

What's the worst that happens? The ice caps completely melt and flood everything but the Rockies and the Appalachians? I'd be cool with that. Hell, mankind should be so lucky.

I don't listen to radio. And to think we can control the climate is laughable.. In the grand scheme of things, our time on earth is insiginificant. You have yet to provide any example nor backed your claims. In fact, you haven't really claimed anything other than ad hominem attack on Mountain and I. If you want to really show us the proof how we're causing increase in hurricanes and floods, please provide it.

Increase in the water temperature in Atlantic is blamed for increase in numbers and severity of hurricanes. But where does human activity come to play? Why don't you go read up on Greenhouse effect then we can discuss further.

Some dude will build an ark.

Eh, whatever. No one is really talking about fixing the earth's climate, but we should strive to minimize our impact. Not sure how anyone could disagree with that. Plus it has the added benefit of removing our dependancy on foreign oil.

Anyway please disregard anything resembling an ad hom attack, I'm really not trying to start anything.

Aight i'mma bounce to Al's place, who's up for some Cristal?

Ever try the Camry hybrid? Sweetest car I ever drove.

I'll have a Guinness.
the 'environmentalist ' Al Gore.
Why do Americans have to tear down your own who are most admired internationally?

What do you know about dependency on foregin oil..and why is that bad? What would you rather do? Drill our own oil? Why do you think it's important that the rest of the world use a lot of oil?? What do you think will happen if worldwide petroleum use declines dramatically? Do you think the US buys a lot of oil from the Mid East?

I will tell you this. If other countries don't buy oil, the US will bankrupt. Quickly. I'll let you figure out why.

Wow you really are trying your darndest to turn this into some flamefest, and you also completely ignored what I typed about electronic medical records. Oh well.

What kind of environmental impact do you think it has to build an hybrid..with that battery and all...

Why tear down Al Gore? He's a hypocrite.. he tells everyone to stop using fossil fuel..yet he flies around in private jets and is driven around in gas guzzling limos. Then his house... He's all about "do as I say...not as I do." After all, he invented the internet.

Not a flamefest... I'm just picking on your arse... because you're throwing around those media darling terms.. like "foreign oil."

After all, he invented the internet.

When you say stupid **** like this it makes me think you listen to Rush all day. I mean you realize he was in the senate in the 80s and actually was one of the driving forces both for climate change awareness and internet/tech related stuff, right?

Not to mention the fact that he has absolutely nothing to do with the validity of science, it's just an easy strawman for every conservative nutter to bring up so they can get that smug vacuous look on their face that comes oh so easily.

Also, LOL at "media darling terms" considering both of you were the first to start raging against Al Gore. I mean who the **** cares about him? Only conservative windbags with a hard-on for bashing the Clinton/Gore years.

I'm down for global warming. Maybe Spiriva's avatar will get even more scandalous :luck:

Liberal, conservative...doesn't matter which...but if one of those terms describes you, I declare you a *******. I hate and love politics. I hate it because it winds up being a pissing match between two ******* sides of people who come to a conclusion based upon whichever arbitrary side of the political coin they are on, then find evidence to support their claims rather than the other way around.

...and I love politics because it gives me a chance to laugh at the stupid people fighting. It's like a classy version of Jerry Springer.

she is very scandalous in real life...only a few on here are lucky enough to have met her, and just wow.

...which is exactly why I didn't want to get into a ******* flamewar with him. Here we all are, trying to discuss electronic medical records, then someone compares global warming to Y2k scares, then comes the Al Gore bashing right on cue.

Couldn't have been a dumber exchange, really. And regardless of your political persuasion, denying global warming at this point is on par with creationism.

Can't wait for the inevitable reply with a link to a study published by someone with stock in Exxon.

Some of you people are Michael Moore supporters aren't you? You probably wake up and watch 'Loose Change' first thing in the morning too.
Michael Moore is an idiot, but you are pathetic. Please kindly **** off back to pre-allo, thanks.

This thread's going to get tossed into the sociopolitical forum so fast it's going to make our heads spin.

Not that I'm on anyone's 'side' here but Wikipedia has widely been criticized for not being a credible source to cite from in academia for a long time. On the other hand, we all better be worried about thymine dimers, huh?

Wikipedia is just like any other encyclopedia, you use it to look up references. There are plenty of studies cited on that page, but go ahead and ignore them as I'm sure you will.

Waiting for your snarky rejoinder!

edit: ok being pre-pharm is much preferable to pre-allo, you can stay.
