And how did you "crunch" these numbers exactly.....just curious.

Accepted/applied and class size/accepted. thats how i would do it at least. Nice job colorado sky, its very interesting.

Yea, I just downloaded the pdfs of stats from opted and converted it to excel http://www.pdftoexcelonline.com/

Then used excel to manipulate the numbers. I don't know where old data can be found, otherwise I wouldn't mind seeing the trends:)

cjensen20: where can I find the pass rate and graduation rate information? is there a centralized location where I can get reliable stats?

another interesting piece of data:

Last year, there were 2503 applicants applying to average of 5.13 optometry schools according to ASCO. The total matriculated students equals 1639 optometry students for the class of 2014 across all school. If every accepted applicant end up attending an optometry school, then that means 65.48% of applicants to optometry schools get at least one acceptance. If there were some accepted students who end up not pursuing optometry education at all, then the acceptance rate would be even higher. Even though the number of optometry schools seemed unsettlingly small to me at first, now I realize the demand isn't big enough to warrant more schools, and the acceptance rate is actually quite high. I wonder what the acceptance rate is for other health professional programs like dental, physical therapy, pharmacy, and medical schools, etc.

How do you factor in people that were accepted to multiple schools?

thats a question I dont have an answer to...other than calling each school and asking...ive been curious for a long time, but could never find out this info...thought maybe you had it

I used total # of matriculated students instead of accepted students. I figure each applicant will only matriculate to one school as that is the only way it makes sense. I divided the # matriculated, meaning # students entering an optometry school last year, by the total number of individual applicants to optometry schools last year.

Just bumping this thread because I thought it was very informative.

I think it's interesting how ICO had the most overall applications but was third from the bottom when it comes to matriculation. I'm not applying there butni wonder why this is.

Could just mean that a lot of people deem it good enough to warrant applying to as a backup, but not as many people consider it as their top choice.
