new International dental program in Indiana U

I found all this on their website this morning! Honestly its crazy! What a rip off ! What if I don't qualify! 8000$ for nothing!!!!!

What a dumb idea that I listed the school in caapid !!! I would have saved my 80 dollars sigh...

All this that too if you are a U.S citizen or permanent resident.......I should say useless program for international dentists... :(
 
If by chance, we are invited for their 4 week assessment test, that 4 weeks accomodation & food will be another 2000 dollars which means a total of 10,000 dollars for one interview. I guess this is not a good idea to consider this school, i am definitely not applying.
 
I cannot believe their requirements....
1) they need the letters of recommendation all over again from evaluators even after submitting CAAPID.
2) They require official transcripts from all post secondary schools attended . they need them directly from the university in India to the school here. they do not accept sealed copies mailed by the student. Is it even a possibility?
3) I called them and asked how many students are invited for technical assessment/to pay $8000. they do not know..
 
I just received an email saying they decided to require both step I and II for admissions :) more reasons :D

how nice & kind of them ! At least they are letting some people save some $$' s. I wish they had uploaded all this info. when they added their " LUXURIOUS" program to ADEA. Damn those hard earned $80 that got wasted for this Corporate program !

If you can get addmission in 2013 and start you start in July of 2013, then you will not need to wait for another year since their deadline for application is in april of 15, 2013 (at that time, other advanced standing programs just begin application for 2014) .

U have a good point ! But what about the 8000$ assessment course fees! That doesn't guarantee ur acceptance !

i think who ever that has constructed the guidelines for this program is either arrogant (not knowing how other schools are going about selecting there candidates) or trying to come up with new revenue source...
either way, imo charging that much money/time consumed is not justified .. you better of spending that money on a dental course & come out with a certificate or something !!!

It is ridiculous. So, basically they want me to quit my job and pay them $8000 for 4 weeks, so that they can tell me I am good or not, and if not, I can go back home and .........? The process is not only stupid but insulting to international dentists. I might have better chances at the casino!!!!!

Lol Daaru, I know. I plan to call them tomorrow to check on it. Will keep everyone updated. If I had $8000 I rather put it for tuition, not to bet on skills test. Yes meika I got it. Thanks, so are you. We are all trying to pursue our dreams.

Can anyone please help me with Indiana University Dental school code for the TOEFL scores? I could not find it neither on the ETS website nor on the University website. They are not answering the phone.

JM114 toefl code is 1325 i think.. its given in the application packet!
dr.dhtr, no news.. did u finish submitting all the application, i still need to send supplemental. I am very reluctant to send it though;( 4 week assesment test will be for part 1 knowledge. and there is a bench test too!!:( what do they mean training/orientation and assesment??? will the first teach us the guide lines and stuff and then test our knowledge on that?

does anyone has some update about IUSD?

I heard someone said that IUSD got about 160 applicants by the end of this Feb.

The big advantage of this program is that it will begin this July and we donot need wait another year.

Yeah but there's a four week skill testing phase for 8000$ that doesn't guarantee ur acceptance ! R u willing to do it :)

nothing can be guarantee.

even you got into dental school, no one can guarantee you will graduate.

even you graduate from dental school, no one can guarantee you will can pass board exam and get dental liscence.

yeah got iv call..dont know i should be happy or sad, becoz even if i got through the interview i will have 1 month test and 8000$ waiting for me to spend without any guarantee of getting into the program. pheww may be the toughest one to get into.

Congrats on the invite! I have a question ..is the interview separate from the 4 week skill testing phase! Like do u go for the interview then in case u go through ..u have to travel again for the test? Or is it all at once ?

well rola i am not sure myself.. nothings clear on the website they just say after interview 4 weeks of practicals..but most probably it looks like that they are gonna wait sometime after the interview before starting the 1 month session.. but again not sure!!

yes, the interview and bench test is separate from 4 week skill testing.....initially they were going to take interview and later 4 week skill test for those selected from interview ,now its interview+bench test and later 4 week skill test for selected candidates ....received separate e-mail clarifying this situation

but , what if you fail the skill test . you will lose the 8000.00 dollars.
 
yes their tuition is definitely less compared to some other similar programs in other universities. but spending 8000 and then (just in case ,god forbid) not being accepted sucks.
but still i'm gonna try and hope for the best.
 
I can understand universities point that only good students should get in but I really dislike the fact that now Universities are taking advantage of our struggle process. I don't think people at IU are dumb enough that it takes them a month to know if the candidate is good or not. And those who are really confident about their practical work should definitely go for this school, after all we all need just a DDS/DMD to get licensed here. (Ofcourse we do learn new things while at school but I defer to say that we absolutely need to be schooled.)
 
Every other school in US make us do pre-clincial/lab coursework for the first few months (since they take us as Advanced Standing students, so they make us do the pre-clinical coursework that they have skipped for us) but this is when they have confirmed the student's acceptance. Also they charge tuition amount for those months but that's a fair/justified process. And I have yet to come across a single student failing to comply with the requirements of the school and thus drop-out.

All in all I would say IU is playing safe keeping at stake student's future and finances.
