Our MSTP is making plans to expand over the next few years, and for the first time this year there will be 12 slots available rather than 10. Consequently, this year about 4-5 more initial acceptances will be sent out than usual. Also, a lower number of students were interviewed this year (~80) despite a record number of applications, so the likelihood of an acceptance post-interview is better than usual. The rank meeting has been held and 25 or so should receive an offer of acceptance at the end of the month. In some years there is little waitlist movement, and in other years multiple members of the entering class come off of the WL. Now would not be a good time to contact the admissions office since rankings are already in place and they won't tell you anything until late March, but if you are waitlisted, be sure to express your interest in attending Yale regularly and all that good stuff.

The remaining 8 candidates on the first-tier list have just been "provisionally" approved by the MD committee, congrats! I imagine it won't be long before you hear from the MSTP office, maybe next week?

that's awesome. Any idea whether people that still haven't heard may be second tier? And what exactly does "provisional" acceptance entail?? Great work on getting the inside scoop again :).
 
I don't have a definitive answer to either question. People who haven't heard from UCSF should either be first-tier, or high on the second-tier list that the MSTP council is confident enough of their acceptances to not send them waitlist notifications.

Provisional acceptance is, well, the inside scoop that the MSTP council gets from the MD committee regarding its pending decisions on those 8 candidates:D

I liked Ohio a lot. I'm still waiting to hear from Harvard and Northwestern, but unless any surprising things happen at either of those places, I think I may go to OSU... A major factor for me, though, is the fact that my wife (married yesterday!) has also been accepted to a PhD only program at OSU, so it would be a great fit for us.

Yeah, we're actually going to leave for our honeymoon in Charleston on thursday... I'm not sure why we scheduled a few empty days in between the wedding and the honeymoon, I think it's because all of our families came into town and we wanted to see them a bit before we all went our separate ways.

Congrats! I will admit I'm jealous. I'm still moderately bitter about my rejection especially after they wrote me post-interview to say how much they liked me. :mad: mixed signals!
 
congrats iveshcmive! you deserve it! you're obviously a great applicant - don't let those waitlists (or whatever) get you down...before this is over most of us will have been on at least one official or unofficial waitlist

I really loved Michigan and Northwestern, as well as Wash U. In terms of my field of interest, I was most sold on the research at Michigan. Thank goodness for revisit weekends. I'm going to need them.

Congrats all! And I agree with Dodo - no fair that your finals are so early, solitude. I don't graduate until the 19th of May.

I would love to go to second look, but I have a program fundraising dinner that I can't miss that Thursday night in NYC. I think the school did a pretty good job of convincing me on first look though...
