This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Buffalobills, Kozela, Furisemider, Gimmecardiology, How are you guys? Coming 2 weeks seem very very crucial. Good luck to all of us. I am anxious but can't do anything.....

I have been so anxious that I stopped checking SDN!!! I agree the next few weeks are very critical. Best of luck to all.

I think the coming week is the last one that the programs that haven't sent out IVs will do so. Beyond that, probably the IVs we get are only because someone cancelled and we were on the waiting list.

agreed! IMG here, community program, J1, significant research and leadership, top scores. only 6 invites... too many rejections to count :/

Did anyone hear from any of these programs : Michigan State Uni, East Carolina Uni, Baystate Medical Center?

Interview invite from cook county yesterday. Is this a good place for training?

Hey Kardiologia, I ve heard it is a busy hospital. I am not sure about the academic aspect though...

My guess is that the interview invites should continue until late September since they started reviewing the applications late this cycle in mid July. Or maybe this is wishful thinking!

Good luck guys, this week is important, but whatever, as long as we have at least 1 interview we are in the business, I keep my fingers crossed.

What are all the things you find out from a program when you go for interview? For eg: number of CCU beds, team census, Cath lab census, electives, advanced fellowship spots. Please pitch in your 2 cents. Thanks.

Busy hospital. Serves the poor and homeless. Lots of trauma cases. Inhouse calls. Card fellows are freq ly asked to do an overnight Echo to check the cardiac box in stabbed pts, GSW. Couple of ER consults +/- one ICU / SICU consult every night. There is one resident covering for the CCU. Resident sees the consults and lets you know once done. You rotate at Rush as well if I'm not mistaken. Cath lab is allright. Don't expect any subspecialized clinics (Pulmonary Hypertension, Cardiomyopathy, LVAD..). During the consultation months you will probably carry minimum ~12 pts / day. At least 3-4 residents will be working with you. Residents help significantly. The IM residency program is huge and a lot of residents apply compete for the Cardiology spots. They probably end up taking ~ 2 internal candidates every yr. Fellows get to moonlight at a nearby VA Hospital.

Did you guys obtain NRMP number?

Anybody wanna switch interview dates for Uf-Jax . I am looking for 9/24 as I will be in the area. my date is 10/8 as of now?

I have no idea. Hopefully, somebody knows something. I will be interviewing at Lehigh.
Leigh Valley hospital is a nice one, 2 main campus, the biggest is Ceder Crest. 800 beds +200 beds in the other. Nice place with a lot of international graduate. attendings from prestigious places. Good training, but does not have any subspecialty fellowships (eg interventional , heart failure, EP...etc). work there is a little bit stressful. Nice area, but small town, stay away from downtown Allentown.

I wasn't sure whether you are AMG or IMG. I added it under IMG list. Forgive me if I was wrong. Thanks.

When should we start contacting programs ? Now?

I would change that order... THI > BCM > Methodist > UT Houston

BEWARE!!! UTH is malignant. They don't care about their fellows. I hear everyone talk positively about heart failure group, but they say that the program is not run by them.

Just read the older posts from SDN here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...am-impressions-for-2012.804623/#post-10859555

It was pretty interesting to see what people think of the Texas Med Center programs. I can say most of this ranking between them is ridiculous. I know UT fellows that are really happy. I think most people in TMC have a lot of respect for everyone else .... everywhere has their strengths and pretty much everyone realizes that.

Realize the programs are COMPLETELY different. It's like trying to compare apples / oranges. My advice find what what fits best with your life / career.

I can say there are plenty of smart people at any of the TMC programs and more pathology than most places will ever see. You will leave any TMC program well trained.

INTERVIEW! You will know if you fit in and the program will help you accomplish your career goals.

There is a good thread with actual content comparing Texas cards programs I suggest people check out if they have questions.

Good luck all!

The match is through NRMP. You have to register with NRMP in order to participate in the match. Go on the NRMP website and you have all the information you need.
