any body has heard from Tufts? how is its program?

Has anyone heard anything about the ortho program at Nova? Good or bad?
Also, what are people's thought on a certificate program vs. a masters program?

I imagine most folks prefer a certificate instead of a Masters (all else being equal). The problem is, in most cases everything else isn't equal. The schools I ranked highest all required a Masters. I didn't rank them high because I loved research, however. In fact, most residents can't wait to get their agonizing research project over with. We're not in this for the academics. Most of us are looking for the best clinical experience.

I wanted to go to those schools despite the research because other factors were considerably better (according to my overall analysis). Some of those other factors were faculty-student interactions (got along w/ each other), don't have to do much lab work, are able to travel to meetings/seminars, range of clinical techniques taught, etc.

I've heard that recently alot of senior faculty have left and they've been replaced by faculty that are only a year or two out.

I've heard they mainly take their own. Many of the spots are supposedly filled before they even interview. Anyone know for sure?

If people who get interview calls post their stats, it will be of great help for the people who are going to apply next year to know where they stand.

probably not such a good idea...

the process is about more than stats.

has any one got a call for Tufts? any news?

Please, You asked that question two days ago and got no response. When/If someone on the board hears from Tufts, I am sure they will post the info and let the rest of us know. Until then, just wait patiently like the rest of us for the next call, e-mail, or letter.

Ohio State called today, Nov. 13 or 14

Billy Gilmore, you haven't said anything to wayoutwest yet...

...approaching mid-October and people are getting testy :).....

...approaching mid-October and people are getting testy :).....

It is a stressful time. I feel for you guys. I tried to remain relaxed and confident, but that wasn't the easiest task all the time.

As I re-read Billy Gilmore's comments, it appeared like his response was appropriate. Nothing too testy there. In my opinion, he's was only encouraging patience from his brotherly (and sisterly) colleagues. It is annoying for one to repeatedly ask the same ?.

I, however, don't think posting stats is a bad idea. It lets the younger generation know what the standard is. But perhaps on a separate thread? Ask Gavin. This is his area of expertise. Actually, I'd search earlier threads. I know similar posts were made a year ago on this topic.

let's start a vote. which post would you most rather read, yet again:
A. tufts admissions process
B. interview questions

gotta love it.

My vote goes for Tufts. Has anyone heard from them, by the way?

Hey guys, I have 2 interviews, one following the other consecutively and cannot make one social dinner before formal interview day. I know social dinner is part of interview and don't want to miss it but cannot help it...no flight connection....does it affect my interview badly? Can it be usual situation since many people are going to have multiple interviews? What do you think?

No, but I heard they ask really, really, hard interview questions.

I've heard they make you wear a bra on your head during the interview. So it may be cool to throw them off guard and show up already wearing one (on your head).

I faced similar situations. Just do the best you can. I can only speak for myself, but I think you'll be fine. Visiting w/ residents is important, however. You're going to be working closely together and they hope to get to know you (if only superficially) at the "mixer" before or after the interview.

The dinners and getting to know the residents are important. Make every effort to go if you're very interested in the program.

I got a call from a resident from CNMC today! The interview is on Oct 28th.

Shoot,
Marquette and VCU overlap. Which one should I go to?
Thanks

Damn, now Baylor, Marquette and VCU overlap =(
Which one should I go to?

Which one should I go to?

If one of those schools has no in-house candidates applying, that's the one I'd pick. If that's not the case, then I'd take the one that seems to pick the most diverse class and where you have the best shot. (I think someone posted here last year that Baylor matched 4/6 Baylor people into their program.)

Another way to pick is trying to see where your odds are the best. So if 1 program is intervieweing 30 candidates for 2 spots, and the other is interviewing 12 candidates for 2 spots, I'd go to the second place - less competition. I guess you can look at all of these factors and try to make a decision.

Of course, you could actually pick the interview based on the quality of the programs, but IMO, that doesn't mean much in terms of your chances of getting in.
