To do an away internship or not?

I am going to apply to the the top programs in psych, (Columbia/Yale/Hopkins/Penn) etc, and wanted to know what is the general consensus on 4th year away internships?

I have heard it can hurt your chances at a place, but also help you, assuming you rock it.

Is it worth it? Considering the cost of travel/room?

Unless you can objectively look at your application and say you are a shoe-in for an interview, do away rotations to boost your odds.

Also, if you try the search function (particularly the Advanced Search function that lets you specify this forum only) for audition rotation or away rotation, you'll find that this topic has been discussed a lot before and you might get better information that way.
