Volunteering work

Hi i am a dentist from india, have written my nbde part 1 and 2 passed them both, i have to improve my resume now and suggestions are to do volunteer work.
My doubt is wheather i can do voluneering work in india, do us dental schools consider this volunteer work or should i do volunteer work only in usa. I had another doubt, do the institutions where we have done volunteering work give us a certificate or some kind of paper as proof that we have done volunteer work.
