Any takers? Perhaps you are applying at my (or someone else's) program. Inside scoop is possible.

they are all very competitive schools but I have my reasons and they are all based on my closest research matches.

I realize it is risky to have no safeties but I don't want to apply anywhere I won't be able to work on studies that best match my interests. I'm older so I figure if I've waited this long I may as well go for what I really want. and my stats are halfway decent so who knows ;)

Is that your dog in your photo?

It is fine to only apply to very good schools. After all, you won't be too happy if you are accepted to a place you aren't that passionate about. The important question is whether you want to become a clinical psychologist or if you want to be doing things you truly like (not necessarily mutually exclusive, I reckon)...

Thanks! When you say "truly like" do you mean other career paths? or clinical vs research?

There were about 160 on this list to start, but given my interest in psychodynamic orientations, critical psych/theory as well as community psych projects, getting down to 30 was pretty easy. Getting from 30 to 15 was tough but non-negotiable. The last five to be cut still haunt me, of those I will be keeping an eye on Pacifica -- they may get APA accreditation.

I had every intention of applying to counseling programs but my main interest is working with folks diagnosed with psychotic disorders. I guess I kind of psyched myself out of taking the counseling route...

I so don't want to get shunned this winter...yet just thinking about the possible changes ahead makes my head spin. I think I need a hug.

Forgot -- I'm "on the fence" about the Virginia Consortium...

I'll jump on board too-- especially since everything is submitted now, I don't feel like I'm jinxing it!

University of Nebraska-Lincoln

I tried to get a mix of crazy competitive, slightly less competitive, and normal competitive--I don't think there is really a non-competitive (funded) clinical program!

Haha, no, that's Stains, the most awesome dog in the history of television. (Awesome choice AryaStark)

Ha! I had to google him. I guess I have been missing out by not having tv for the last year or so.

for anyone else who is not aware of Stains and his cupcakes:

Wow, after seeing how everyone here is applying to so many programs I'm starting to feel lazy!

All Clinical Programs

University of Wisconsin - Madison
Washington University
University of Missouri - Columbia
Ohio State University
Marquette University
University of Houston
University of South Florida
University of Cincinnati
University of Connecticut
Drexel University
Washington State University
Wayne State University
St. Louis University

Oh and if anyone plans on applying to the University of Cincinnati, I'd appreciate if you just wouldn't. Top choice.

Neuropsyance

My list (all clinical except otherwise noted):

Univ of Miami
Univ of Florida
Duke
Pittsburgh
UMBC
Vanderbilt
Yale
Harvard (Social)
Northwestern Feinberg
SDSU/UCSD JDP

My final list (all Clinical PhD):

Florida State University
University of Georgia
University of South Carolina
Loyola University Chicago
George Washington University
University of Utah
University of South Dakota
University of Montana
University of Wyoming
SUNY Binghamton
Suffolk University

Three schools got chopped during the application process for various reasons... still a little freaked that I did that, but I think it was ultimately the right choice. I have low GRE scores unfortunately (but a very strong application otherwise), so I'm expecting several (many..) auto-rejections. But it doesn't hurt to try, right?! Gah.

I can't wait for this Krap to be over!!!

I'm applying to all the counseling and CUNY as well. Who are you hoping to work with? And... isn't NYU's application excessively long!!!

Also, my husband goes to the Wright Institute, so if anyone has questions PM me.

Alright, if everyone else is doing it, I guess I will too. All of mine are clinical Ph.D.:

I know a current student at Virginia Consortium, PM me if you would like info. I worked with Dr. Susan Hendrick and Dr. Erin Hardin at Texas Tech during my undergraduate years, they are both great mentors and professors. Dr. Chris Robitschek is awesome too! She gave me a lot of advice the first time around I was applying to doctoral programs.

is NYU accredited again? It wasn't last year...

Yikes! You're applying to 16 schools. My advisor reviewed my info, and told me 7 was sufficient. I guess it also helps that I'm an underrepresented minority too. Anyway, I really don't have the $$ to apply to a gazillion schools, lol.

But, Yeah, the NYU app is crazy.
For NYU, I'd like to work w/Drs. Juni, McRae, or Suzuki
For CUNY, I'd like to work w/Drs. Jurist, Hien, or Anglin

My Fiance is finishing up his PhD at CUNY.

Time tells all stories, so good luck to you!!! :D

You're good then, because I'm interested in their neuropsych track. Also, it's my top pick because quite frankly Dr. Shefft sounds awesome!

Just a quick FYI,
If you are applying to a program where professors don't necessarily do research in similar areas, it's not a good idea to apply to work with many faculty members. For example, if someone is doing ADHD research with kids and someone else is doing Autism research with kids, don't apply to work with both of them. This will make you look unfocused and might result in your application being put in the no pile. Just my $0.02 though. Others might disagree.

Drexel
Oregon
Northwestern Feinberg Med.

If any of you that are applying to Oregon have any questions about the program, faculty etc feel free to ask, I'm a master's student there now.

Antioch University New England (Psy.D.)
Already a Masters student there so I automatically receive an interview. I hope this will work in my favor.

Yeah, I'm also an underrepresented minority, but light on research so I have to give myself as many chances as possible to get in. $$ is tight, but I definitely hope I don't have to go thru this again.

Actually, I'm hoping that you listed your POIs in order of preference because mine are Suzuki and Anglin.

Good luck to you too!
