Ahhh! :scared: more waiting!

Actually I have calmed down quite a bit. Once I received my hold email my hopes went way down (even though I know I can still get accepted).

ok i got the facts from jane (she really is one of the nicest people i have ever met!)... the last meeting when they decided on admission stuff was the 17th (the day before I was ranked 😱:scared: 😱 :scared: 😱 - that is me throwing a tantrum)

they do not meet (who ever it is who actually decides to let people in or not) on a specified day each month but she said it is a pretty much once a month process, so anyone who got a ranked email after the 17th - myself included - will have to suck it up and wait till the middle of february

again this is from jane, and is not speculation - so seriously, relax for a few weeks (i am writing this as much to convince you all as to convince myself)

oh well - at least now i wont freak out everytime my phone rings...

Thanks for the info Mike. Alas, I am still waiting for another school to call...

It is disheartening to hear that I was passed up again...🙁

Well Mayo is my first (and as of now only) interview. I was wondering what to do to best prepare for it. Anyone remember any particularly difficult questions or subjects that I might want to think about before the interview?

Thanks for all your help!

i dont want this to come accross as rude - but for some good advice - just read back thru the previous pages of this thread - this topic has been brought up a bunch...

quickly summarizing everything i ever said - mayo is the most relaxed interview i went to yet - just know about yourself and what you want to tell them about you, because that is really all they want to talk about - there werent any real hard questions or intense stuff, at least not for me...

I was wondering if anyone had stats on Mayo's Class Profile, specifically information on the range of schools they accept students from. I am from an East coast school and they have already accepted one of my classmates. I am just a little worried about whether they will only reserve one spot in the upcoming class for students from my school.

I doubt they base their acceptances on where you are coming from. When did your classmate get accepted? Did you get an interview?

I havent been on this thread for a while.................... so does anybody know how many spots they have given out as of now for md?

My first bump...aww how special.

well i wasn't going to respond to this, because i have nothing to add but speculation... but since melissa threw out a bump, i thought, what the hell...

not to be a downer, but i do know they STRESS class diversity (in all forms, including undergraduate institution) as being very important - it was said a few times that everyone they interview is acceptable, they are just trying to find the best, most diverse group possible...

take that for what it is... does it mean you don't have a shot? -no, just means you better try darn hard to demonstrate to them that you are unique and that you have something special to bring to the table, especially something that your current classmate may not have...

-i am relaxing my sdn use until i hear from mayo mid february - if anyone has a specific question, feel free to pm me (cause it goes to my email)

Hello Mayo Applicants,

Mayo rejected me months ago (august, i think) but I have been keeping up with the thread because I used to live close to Rochester. I was looking at the NIH funding on AAMC's website and was wondering why Mayo was not listed on there? EVERY other school is there, but these guys...any ideas why?

http://grants2.nih.gov/grants/award/rank/medttl05.htm

darn it - i just cant stay away...

2 things -

1. in response to above, when I was there interviewing they did mention that Mayo does not get much from NIH, but it is because they dont really need it, they have a HUGE endowment, and trust me, you can do any research you want there...

2. I was so bored that I decided to click on the button that displays threads by numbers of views, and, as I suspected, Mayo 2007 has the highest hit count of any thread dedicated to a single school (UCLA has one with more, but it has been running since 2004)
...so we trully are the most dedicated (actually i think just neurotic) SDN people out there... go us 👍 👍 👍

For a school with one of the smallest class size yet having the highest hit count: wOOt!

Well, as I just finished withdrawing from other programs and thus solidifying that I will be an MS1 at Mayo in the fall, I guess I should join the conversation! Relax, those of you crunching the admissions statistics, I am one of the 6 MSTPers. 🙂

If the SDN sample is any indication, the entering class is going to be a fantastic group. Good luck to everyone still waiting for that phone call!

For those curious about starting dates:
June 25, 2007: MSTP Orientation/Lab Rotation
July 23, 2007: MD Orientation

Ersatzious- I like your avatar. I like you even more because your MSTP 😉 .

Mike- I knew you couldn't stay away! We have too much love for Mayo!

You should all know that, as a sophomore in undergrad, I am rather jealous of you all. I really can't wait for applications and interviews.

Congratulations for those of you who got in/are getting interviews. Mayo is one of my dream schools and this thread has done nothing but reaffirm my convictions.

well, this is my 100th post on SDN, I am so very proud of myself 😉 , and I would like to share in this moment with my fellow mayo thread followers (because at least 1/2 my posts have been right here in mayo 2007)

in celebration, i have written a haiku...

A rank email sent
But nothing else has been heard
Jane please call me soon

hows that for talent... 👍

and to the above - i know you are excited about med school now, but just try to enjoy yourself in undergrad, especially second year - you have time to stress over all this later, and trust me, you will 😀

and in case you hadn't guessed, this is just a long, glorified,

wait for it...

bump

I'm glad you bumped. I was just thinking of doing the same thing myself. February has arrived which means more acceptances will go out. 😀

February has arrived which means more acceptances will go out. 😀

well i dont think we should get too far ahead of ourselves, i know that the 15th is no longer 'the day' but i am pretty sure it is sometime in the middle of each month, so we may have a couple weeks yet 🙁

Oh man, the suspense is killing me. Between now and about a month and a week from now, I will have heard back from (or waitlisted at) every school I interviewed at😛

I hope it's not the latter.

But sheesh, I doubt I'll make it into the elite few to attend Mayo. One can only wonder and hope.

I see you are on Mike...

I'm tempting you with a bump.

Mike - I see you got quite the brawl going on in another thread. Getting pretty rowdy over there. 😛

yeah that was getting pretty intense - I guess i should have expected it...

anyhow i think it is finally clear that I am not an ass, and people are even taking my side... 😀

some people just love to argue about points irrelevant to an actual thread, and this annoys me, oh well

melissa - you neednt tempt me, I was about to write something anyway... you hit the nail on the head, too much love for the mayo forum!

oh - and i know all my friends here in the mayo forum think i am quite the nice guy, but I guess now you know the real truth - i am a bad*ss 😎

...

...

...

 (i crack myself up)

We should reserve our bumps...don't we need to start a new thread when we hit 1000 posts? Better make my post count 😉

I want to call Jane for my monthly update, but there won't be any new info until mid-Feb anyway. I don't know if I can wait that long.

I called after all- Jane was in a meeting.

Cindy said they have given 21 acceptances out so far (a lot less than I had thought).

Procrastinating from studying anatomy I decided to check out SDN as I used to be a huge fan. I'm a current MSI at mayo and I just wanted to say good luck and I know waiting is difficult but try to have patience. (easy to say, i know!)

I can't be much help with information, but I was in the office today and Jane said something to the effect that they would be interviewing until Feb 23. I cannot be positive if she meant that was the last day for interviews or if she meant that is the last day they've scheduled interviews for. I know this doesn't help those of you who have already interviewed.

Also, I saw a post asking about undergraduate diversity...there is a wide variety of undergrad institutions represented in our class, but there are a couple that are from the same school (uc berkeley, uc davis, u of mn, u of az, duke, taylor, if you're really curious). I don't think they would take more than 2-3 students form the same school under normal circumstances, but other than that I don't think it plays a huge role.

Anyway, I won't go on forever telling you how great my experience at Mayo has been thus far b/c it appears you are all aware of how great it is! If you do have any questions for me though, you can PM me. Best wishes!

ten smiley faces will be awarded to the first person to find out and announce the date of the next adcom meeting where they will be handing out acceptances (last month it was on the seventeenth)

I was at Mayo interviewing last Monday and Jane said they were meeting every week now on Thursdays....not sure if that means they are offering acceptances every week though..

i'm leaving tomorrow for my interview on monday.

does anyone know if the kahler grand had a business room with free internet? or do you have to pay for every 10 mins etc.

thanks :luck:

make sure u bundle up. The midwest is FREEZING right now. I'm in Chicago and it's -20 with windchill at the moment, Rochester is always about 10 degrees colder.

and despite the weather, I'd still attend mayo in a heartbeat.

🙂 🙂 🙂
three for effort - but that is the committee that ranks people, the committee that lets people in seems to meet only once a month... but good luck, I hope it all went well...

oh, and mayo itself has free wireless (i picked it up with a dodgy signal at my hotel accross the street) it was password protected, which i was told could be obtained if you were a patient - i dunno if they would give it out to interviewees, though i figure they would if you asked...

How do you know there are two seperate committees?

How do you know there are two seperate committees?

Jane told us. I am not sure if they are made up of separate people, just that they meet for two different reasons (rank vs. accept). It is probably the same people. Either way, invitations have been decided once a month.

PS- Jane is officially the most helpful admissions person EVER.

interesting...thanks for the info, apparently you two are THE source for all MMS admissions info🙂

yes, well, I suppose that is just because neither of us has much anything better to do than bug jane and pass the info along (and in all fairness, melissa has called in way more than me 😀 )

...and the fact that we have oddly similar names... coincidence?

- you tell me 😎

Don't lie Mike- if you interviewed back in Nov you would have called just as much as me. You were too busy getting accepted to my other dream schools 😉

rach4214- Mike and I can't help but stalk Mayo. I hope at least one of us gets in. My strategy is to bug the admis office until the finally decide it would be easier to just admit me. Really I just find it calming to know what is going on. Speculation makes me more nervous.

I completely understand! I am was born and raised in Rochester, and have worked at Mayo, so I was a little apprehensive about the possibility of attending medical school in Rochester. But after the interview, I was hooked! Mayo is awesome.

I miss seeing the Mayo thread on the front page. It's the only thread worth reading! 😀

They should accept more of us so we have something to post about 😀

Any news?

Melissa, I am rooting for you!

LET'S GO MAYO, LET'S GO!

:luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

just to lighten your moods up, i told my friend i interviewed at mayo, and they asked, whats mayo? isnt that mayonaisse?

anyway found it funny, and you guys are some die hard mayo fans, ill probably give my seat up to one of you if i get accepted, so thats one less for you to worry about

...I just got back from having "Mayo4Life" tattooed accross my forehead, so yeah, I guess I am a die hard fan...

wow jk but anyhow - if you would care to give me your information I would be happy to call in your withdrawal now, just to save you time 😉

ok but being serious - it is good to be called down to earth, cause i certainly have my head in the mayo clouds...

and melissa, I would like to join the list of supporters - If we both get in I am flying out to Az to see my brother and to take you and your husband out to dinner!

It was -18* without windchill 2 days ago in Rochester... you SD people looking forward to that? 😉

From the bottom of my hopefully frostbitten toes to the top of my hopefully freezing head 😀

Mike- You're on! I hope you like Mexican food...
