Hi all,

This is my first time posting here. I am a current Mayo applicant. I have interviewed then I got an "on hold" email and then a "your committee rank has been determined" email. What do they mean? Is this the same as being on the waitlist? Will I not hear now until March? Any advice would be much appreciated. Good luck to all!
 
I assume that your ranking email was first, but that's not the way you made it sound. If the ranking email was first and you were then told hold, that would make sense and yes, you are probably on hold until the final review (but could still be accepted other times along the line if you're high enough up on the ranking list). If the hold email was first, I'm not quite sure what to think. I received a ranking email last week, but haven't heard anything else since then.

take a minute to read the 13 some odd pages that we have already amassed - especially the last three or four, as this topic has been discussed... at great length!

and to everyone else - congrats on reaching 14 pages, to celebrate, I will give you these numbers that i wrote down while at my interview...

this years exact numbers (if you all still care)
applications = 3481
phone interviews given = 509
approx number of interviews on site to be done = 250

this, again, is from the mouth of jane, and thus is infallible

hey folks, i was just wondering how long it took cindy to get back to you to schedule your interviews?

since its getting late in the game..i know every day counts. but i'm not sure if its inappropriate for me to contact her, since it explicitly said she'd contact us.

nm guys, cindy called my cell at 6:30 p.m. her time...i guess they work long hours over at mayo

anyway i got the last spot for feb 5th which is exciting. for those of you who have to schedule, they are not interviewing feb 2nd.

this is my first interview :scared: i'm canadian, and our interviews take place later. i wish i had some experience under my belt.

from someone who has been there... don't stress. yes Mayo is EXTREMELY intimidating just because of how hard it is to get in (the super low number of spots versus the 250 invited to interview) but to tell you the truth the interview was one of my most relaxed... your interviewers just want to get to know you, and as far as i know there were no weird questions (def not for me, and i dont think for anyone else).

Just got my "rank" e-mail. Mayo is my top choice... guess now the waiting game really starts. Did anyone else hear anything?
 
I didn't get anything, but I think I interviewed a bit later than you. I wish some people who were accepted would get on this forum. I have so many questions for them...like were they on hold before they were accepted etc.
 
Me too... I have no idea on how it goes from here. I have not gotten my "Hold" email yet. Maybe I will later today. Good luck to everyone!!
 
When did you both interview?

I wonder what it means to get the rank email but not the hold email....? I've only heard of people getting both emails.
 
Apparently the Hold email usually takes a bit longer. I interviewed the first week of December. Crossing my fingers :luck:

Just checked your MDApps and I don't see Mayo on there... Does it need an update?
 
Thanks to all for the help. I got the hold email before the rank email--who knows. Anyway, for those of you looking at other schols as well, what are you doing about Mayo's April 15th decision date? I'm worried that I won't get to see fin. aid packages from other schools before Mayo wants me to give them my decision. First I have to get in I guess.

Do you think students accepted to Mayo have to promise not to write in on SDN? What's the deal? It seems suspcious that no one who has been accepted this round has written in on this forum and we know a good number of people have been accepted already. 😕

hahaha, im a def enthusiast, but I'm trying to juggle having a healthy desire and outright pathological obsession. I like echostormfury's post about waiting by the phone and praying...mostly cause that's almost too great of a description of what I'm doing.

Granted I'd be mad if I didn't get in, but I'd be more mad/shocked if no SDNers got in. Mayo apparently has no SDN love this year?

Also, there are 16 spots left, but we have to remember that they took 10 off the waitlist last year, so really, it's almost like 26 spots left. (this logic makes sense in my head, I promise)

I like your outlook. Way to keep it positive.

I agree that obsessing can end up bad. If I continue my obsessing for another few months and THEN get rejected I think I will be much more upset than if I stop obsessing, enjoy the next few months, and then get rejected. One the other hand, I may think that if I had just obsessed a little more and prayed a little harder I would have been accepted. Oh, the life of a Mayo applicant. 😉
 
I think the week I spent in NY was good for me. It helped curb my Mayo obsession. Another helpful idea: I set up my email so that anything sent to me with the words "medical", "medicine", or "Mayo" in the title o body will be sent to my cell phone. Now I don't check my email as much and it has really helped me to relax (as much as I can).

As far as the low # of SNDers accepted (only 1 has posted)...the number of people actually accepted has been quite low, therefore the chances of them being on SDN are low too. Keep the faith!

Yes, I got a ranking email on Jan 5th, but I haven't heard anything since then...so I don't really know. FYI, I interviewed on Dec. 11.
 
What does it mean (if anything) to get a rank email but not a hold email?😕
 
in an extremely brief review of what has been talked about a lot (see pages 10/11/12 especially)

after you interview there are two things that happen -

first - you are ranked by the committee, based on all your different scores (telephone, on-site, etc)

this happens first no matter what, but just because you are ranked doesnt mean they will talk about whether or not they should let you in, that is another meeting entirely...

so second - they meet again, look at your rank, look at everyone esles rank, and decide to let you in or put you on hold for the time being...

so if you got ranked but not held, it means they have gotten around to ranking you, but not put you up for admissions consideration yet...

according to a friend who just got back from an interview, they are still 20 ppl behind (whatever that means) and it sounded to her like the next acceptances would go out around mid-feb...

Yea, I understood it that way as well, except I thought that there was maybe one meeting a month where they decide to offer acceptances, so I would think that they would accept some in January as well, however, maybe they didn't review many apps becuase of the Holidays and decided to wait until February, who knows....no point in fretting too much, it's out of our hands!

Off topic: I have been on hold for United Airlines for 2 hours!! My neck hurts 🙁

Did I read correctly when someone said the last onsite interview is Feb 5th? Cuz my phone interview is TOMORROW.....
 
Completely untrue, I just scheduled my interview for the soonest available date and that was Feb 9. I just talked to an M1 from Mayo (student host) and she said they'll be doing interviews well into March.

no no..i just said i got the last interview spot FOR feb 5th. then the next was feb 9th (which loser12 will be at).
 
ah ok, gotcha. man my interview definetely had a bunch of curveball questions in it. stinks cuz my friend this morning said that they asked her the exact questions listed in this thread. i got maybe half similar ones, and half different. oh well, we'll see ! 🙂

yea i definately had a mix of old and new...but i feel i did better one the ones i had not seen before hand!
 
Got my hold email today, but I believe that means that some people are probably getting accepted today as well! Good luck everyone!

darn, well, I just got my ranked email late last night, which means I guess I was not reviewed by the hold/admit committee, which means i will likely have to wait another month... :scared: (that is called 'scared' but it is supposed to be me crying)
 
Man, weird. I still haven't been ranked and I interviewed in early Dec. (I did get an email saying my application would be reviewed this week or next though...)
 
When I talked to Jane a few weeks ago, she said that admission decisions probably won't be made until this upcoming Thursday (the 25th). I think that's what she meant...I could be wrong. What a long wait...🙁 Are all acceptees notified by phone?

By phone, email, snail mail, pigeon carrier - trust me they'll get a hold of you if you're accepted.
