for those who've submitted, when they ask for the names of your LOR writers, are you including a description/title like "instructor of ___" or something like that? or just listing names?

I just listed the names.

i got my secondary the same time my amcas got verified...and my stats arent that stellar either..30 MCAT.

anyway i have a question, it says that if I have a premedical committe, i have to include a committee letter, and if my center office(premedical health committee, etc...) has a letter service then I have to use their letter service.

my school doesn't have premedical committee, but my carreer center has a LOR service so does that mean I have to use their LOR service? but then it says that I can submit my letters electronically using interfolio.
So can I just send it using interfolio? or should I make a new account at my career center and forward all my letters from interfolio to carreer center and have them send it....but that would be such a hassle. I hope i can just use interfolio

interesting situation, but last yr i called them n they told me you have to use ur letter service so i passed the words on to my friend, but my friend was too lazy so he just had the letter writers send them individually n nothing went wrong n also, he got an interview (md/phd) so i guess it prolly doesn't matter

I plan to submit some additional info - mainly just what I'll be doing during this next year (2008-2009), since I just graduated in May and won't be in school. I'm providing all the med schools I'm applying to with this information in some form or another.

thought i'd ask before i call or email...(in a few hours when the office is open)

does anyone know if by "General Biology, one year with laboratory, including the study of vertebrate zoology" it means that you had to have a separate class in vertebrate zo?

i have one year of general bio but no specific zoology class.

My status is secondary received... does this mean that they also have my LORs (IE it's complete?)

Are you just mailing it w/ your secondary?

Hey! Couple of questions:

if you have a committee letter coming with a school packet, how do you handle the whole "write down who's writing your recommendations" thing? Should "committee" be one of the authors? Also, I'm pretty sure there will be 6 letters including the committee one in the packet, so how do I handle that?

Also, it says that if we've sent the letters already we have to re-send them. What if my school just put them up on VirtualEvals? Do I have to re-send it through that or will they be able to access them even though they were uploaded a couple of weeks ago?

Thanks!

My status is secondary received... does this mean that they also have my LORs (IE it's complete?)

probably not, most schools i've seen make the distinction between receiving, in this instance, the waiver statement vs. the letters of recommendation

i submitted UPenn today and it says secondary submitted but not complete because the letters of rec haven't arrived yet

so I can just send the LORs through interfolio without having to go to my career center LOR service right?

RECOMMENDATIONS (Your letters must meet requirements as stated in cover letter).
You may submit letters of recommendation via Interfolio or Virtual Evals. Letters may also be mailed to the Office of Admissions at the address listed above.
? I am arranging for the submission of letters of recommendation from the Premedical Committee or the letter service at
Name of college/university:___________________
The letters will arrive electronically via ? Interfolio / ? Virtual Evals

here's what I don't get, should I still check the box and enter in the college name if I'm gonna submit it using interfolio?

i also need to know this. let me know if you find out anything.

I believe the way it works is that once your school uploads your letters to VE, they contact the schools of interest and state that your letters are available for review. Beyond that, I think the schools are then able to access the letters on their own accord (ie- if they request a secondary, and you state you sent your letters available on VE).

But if someone wants to call and confirm this notion, please do.

I think this is pretty much spot-on, according to the Virtual Evals website.

http://www.virtualevals.org/what-is-virtualevals/

Scroll down to the part under: What happens at the Health Professions Schools?

I used virtual evals last year, but UCSF wasn't accepting them then. So I had my health professions office mail copies of my LORs directly too them. I'm not sure if they changed policies or not, but I remember UCLA and UCSF did not use VE.

UCLA is currently the only UC not accepting VE or Interflio.

Corrected! I read the statement below the status box at least 20 times yesterday...

Well, according to the very nice UCSF lady, for committee letters, we just have to enter the committee it's coming from- not the individual authors.

As for re-sending letters, if they're on VirtualEvals, we don't have to do that either.

Seriously- easiest. Secondary. Ever.

I think there were a couple that were easier - it would definitely be the easiest if there was online submission. 🙂

why do they still have paper secondaries? so silly.
also, is that "research experience" box for everyone (green box), or only for ppl applying to their special programs?

i have one year of general bio but no specific zoology class.

pretty sure you do not need a separate class... at berkeley, they make it clear which specific bio classes are necessary (none of which are vertebrate zoology) and many berkeley students follow this pattern then head off to UCSF, so i think the "including the study of vertebrate zoology" portion just states that it can be used for that one year bio requirement

i emailed them and they replied that i just needed a year of general biology. but, if you have any doubt, you may want to email them your classes to make sure. they got back to me within one day

great, thanks! i have a ton of upper division bio so i thought i was safe regardless

General question for you all -

Is any one planning to send more than 5 LORs to UCSF, even though they specifically said they prefer a max of 5 LORs?

I have 6 solid LORs I'd like to use and I really don't want to not send one of them.

Cheers!

jojo, i had the same exact dilemma, but in the end i just sent 5 b/c of the line ".We prefer that you not exceed five letters." .it's up to interpretation what that word 'prefer' mean if it will be bad, or it's not a big deal, but i just sent 5 in the end, very hard decision to choose who to take off

I sent all my letters. There were many other schools who said "no more than x number of letters!" and when I called to ask, they told me it was ok if they're all arriving as one packet.

I couldn't bear to omit any, and I figure they could just not read the extra letters if they didn't want to.

Hey, why'd you remove me from the list?

Same here 🙁

There is no essay question on UCSF's Secondary Application.

You can ignore the above post if you knew that already 🙂
I'm editing the main index thread and needed to link it to the "prompt."

Some extra information.

If your school submits your letters as a packet to VE, but does NOT offer a committee letter, I was told it is "Okay" to list your letters individually.

I am not sure if that helps anyone, but just FYI.

SWEET! I just received my second notification that they have received my AMCAS applciation ( identical email sent 10 days apart). This must mean i have TWICE the chance of getting a secondary.....right!?!?

i'm actually not sure what to think of that....should i call and ask them whats up or just let it go?

Haha, I got that second notification, too... also hoping it meant something. 😉

Haha, I got that second notification, too... also hoping it meant something. 😉

It is a glitch. They already requested a secondary from me and I jsut got that email (my status still has my secondary submitted).

On a side note, is anyone complete at UCSF? It says to wait 8 weeks before bugging them, but they got my secondary on 7/23 and I am still not complete....

Yeah, I got the 'glitch' too. Empty e-mail.

I just received an e-mail confirming receipt of my AMCAS application. Funny thing is, I didn't apply this year, I applied last year! That took a long time!

dude, its been 5 days......

LoRs were submitted on 7/18 tho. Idk its rly ******ed on how long it takes ppl to match LoRs to your app.

i totally agree, but we all already konw how f'ed up this application process is. You konw you are gonna have to wait, and you know its gonna be frustrating. You are gonna be one of the first applications that they read...whether they get to it a week from now or 3 months from now...no one is going to jump ahead of you.

Just breathe, relax, have a beer or something. Your waiting game has just started.

Yea, they received my secondary on 7/24, and I sent my LORs on 7/18 but they still haven't marked them as received yet. I assume it's going to take awhile.
