hi everyone,

I guess the title's kinda self-explanatory--I did a quick search but I couldn't find this out. what kind of gpa range do people with this have? I guess it would be sign. higher for junior, but my school only has one induction period (after third yr). are they all pretty much 4.0s? obviously there's other criteria involved, but I was just curious from the gpa end.

I'm just curious--it's no biggie..😉

Well, my school is Honors/Pass/Fail for 3rd year. If you Honor 3 of the first 4, you are nominated for Jr AOA, if you Honor 3 of the total of 6 then you are nominated for senior AOA. After nomination, you fill out an application that lists all of your activities, community service, academic work and publications. This goes to the committee, and they decide who gets it and who does not based on the total picture. Getting Honors in all 6 does not guarantee placement, since academic achievement is only one of the aspects desirable for AOA.

Hope it helps.

I think there's some criteria that has to be met limiting the number of inductees, but after that the nomination criteria are different for each school. I don't think most schools keep track of GPAs (mine doesn't), so you might not find out exactly what you are looking for.

😎 The way southern doc describes it is the way my school does it. At my school it is solely based on grades.

Same here I think. I know we don't use board scores like some of the other schools. BTW J-dog, nice Phish quote. 👍

Tufts uses a point system for 3rd year grades up to block 3B (March) to determine who gets junior AOA. I think only the top 10-15% are eligible, and to break a tie in points for candidates with the same point values, Step 1 scores are used. 20 points given for Honors in IM or Surgery, 15 points for Peds or Ob/Gyn, 10 points for Psychiatry, and additional points can be awarded for Honors in FP, Neurology, or an elective taken during this time at the committee's discretion (or to break ties on the list). I'm sure I got some of this wrong as I have absolutely NO chance of making AOA.. But I don't think not making AOA will destroy your application if you want a competitive residency. One of my interns from the Brigham (in IM-categorical) was a good student at MCV (that's right, not Hah-vahd or UCSF) but NOT AOA; in spite of that, she still matched here and is one of the best interns I know.
