For all fellow waitlisters, I thought I would make a list of all those who are in the same situation. Would give me some peace of mind till June 1st or at least let me know how slim chances are. If you're attending to withdraw, please say so as well and thanks in advance for giving others a better chance of getting in. To start the ball rolling,

I'm just wondering how this is going to give you peace of mind to see a bunch of waitlisters? Are you trying to gauge the size of the list?
 
Knowing how big the list would definitely be helpful. And making such a list would at least give us some sense of control (artificial?) during the information blackout till june. Or am I the only delusional one?

Well I'll give you some insight from the open house this past weekend. There were a lot of prospective students there, and at about half of the people that I talked to were still deciding on schools (including myself). By the end of the impressive program, I know of a few that basically committed themselves to BU, while others now have a very difficult decision to make. Financial aid will be out by May 4th, meaning that people will have ~10 days to make a decision before the 15th. It's one of the most expensive schools, so that may sway some people from accepting a place - I know it's my biggest downside to the school! Keep in mind, though, that the MD-only applicants are really only competing for ~120 spots (the rest is filled by GMS, MMEDIC, BS/MD, etc.).

Based on the busm 2011-2012 thread, there should be at least 20 other waitlisters which puts us at about 30. I'm estimating there are about 100 of us waitlisted

Anyone hear good news today? In the past couple years there was some movement the week after May 15th.

Hey north12, not to burst your bubble (or mine) there but BU's waitlist is quite long. Despite what adcom said, I found out from threads a few years back that it goes into the hundreds. One forum poster was GMS and found out from his advisor who was in the committee. Also, BU sees little waitlist movement based on history (2007-2009) Got better in the last 2 years but not much.

This process will drive me crazy

though what you say may be true about 2007-2009, medical school waitlist movement is like the stockmarket. you can't base what's going to happen this year on previous years because they play no role in whats going to happen this year. waitlist movement strictly depends on the number of applicants that withdraw their acceptances...which is arbitrary
 
I figure I have better odds of sleeping with an A-list celebrity than getting off the waitlist at BU, but it never hurts to be hopeful (for both scenarios).

Studly, have you slept with A-list celebrities lately? Bc that would be epic.
 
Wow, seems like every other school other than BU is seeing waitlist movement. Are there people getting off the waitlist and not posting or are adcoms just waiting?

What is going on?????
 
I actually have a spot at BU right now and would be willing to give it up if I get off one of the 2 waitlists I'm on. However, those schools seem to be having no waitlist movement too which is unfortunate.
 
Well, I just got rejected from the waitlist, so there's that kind of movement going on I guess... I'm really disappointed. There go my hopes of staying in Boston, and of going to a school where my boyfriend has any choice in grad school programs in the same area. Ugh. I just wrote to them a few days ago too.

I'm sorry to hear that Accalia. This process is really painful for the non-superstars. Do you mind posting the contents of the email? Please? If I do receive one, I'll be able to trash it immediately
 
Sure. I'm posting from my phone, so I can't copy and paste the whole text here, but I got part of it. The subject in "Boston University School of Medicine: Status Update" and it starts off:

"We wrote to you several months ago inviting you to take a position on the waiting list for admission to the entering class of 2012 at Boston University School of Medicine. It is with great regret that I write now to inform you that we will be unable to offer a place in the class. This is a disappointment, as much for those who are responsible for the decision as it may be for you, the candidate who is turned away. Most of the candidates we are considering this year are qualified to attend" etc.

You made this cut, at least, so that's hopeful, right? Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't know they start rejecting wait-list people at this point. Good luck at other schools! 🙁

I wish. I'd probably be more content with a rejection to BU if that event were to occur though. I just got rejected from one of my other waitlist offers though, it doesn't irk me that much though. I honestly fell in love with BU, I feel that it's worth every penny to go there.
 
BU rejected people from the waitlist closer to july in previous cycle I think. Either more people accepted this year or less people withdrew from the waitlist.

And have there seriously been no acceptances?? BU must have done an exceptional job in choosing those who will attend this year.

I thought they initially over-accepted this year. Thus, the lack of wait-list movement.

Oh I meant, more people who were accepted chose BU. Also, I heard from someone that BU accepted less this year (~300) rather than typical 400 in previous years.

Anyone heard something similar?

yes i called -- they class is currently "oversubscribed" and they don't know if there will be any waitlist movement

In their wait list email they told us they would email us if they do not use the wait list...so there is still hope I guess!
 
Last year, they sent out a mass email end may/early june informing waitlisted applicants that the class was filled. Why the lack of information this cycle?

Guess I spoke too soon. Waitlist movement is back to practically zero for BU despite improvement in recent years. Sigh

Just got a wait list rejection. Anyone else?
 
I haven't received anything yet. I guess that's good news hmm.
 
Could be either good or bad news. Bad because there has been 2 waves of post waitlist rejections, more compared to last year. Which means less waitlist movement anticipated this year, hence releasing more waitlisted applicants.

Regardless, best of luck to those remaining.
 
A few people seem to have joined the facebook group recently. Wonder whether they were taken off the waitlist or decided to join the group late.. Hmmm

Haven't heard a peep, it's not looking very promising and it's been an extremely demoralizing cycle. I spent a lot of money applying to schools and going on interviews all to end up matriculating at the school I knew I was going to end up at before I even applied. I'm content with being accepted; I just wish I would've had an adequate understanding of the process to know which schools were too far of a reach and which schools don't take midwestern applicants etc.
