I started my D1 year about a month ago(first midterms already done) and I am seriously starting to regret my choice to pursue dental over medical. Every time I pass through the med school or see the med students doing their thing all I can think about is that I wish I was doing their work. I try to push my thoughts to the side but they just keep nagging at me. I did consider it before applying to dental but figured I was too old(28) to bother with all the residency and what not. In hindsight that was a very short sighted logic.

My question is how will it look if I were to withdraw from my program now and re-apply to med school starting next cycle? Are Adcoms dissuaded by applicants that withdrew from other professional programs?
My undergrad GPA was solid(3.94sGPA) and I am passing with high marks in all my dental courses(histo, biochem, physio, tooth morph). The only thing I lack is the MCAT and some medical clinic volunteer/work experience.

And before anyone says it.. No I do not want to pursue oral surgery. I shadowed one and its just not for me.

Anyone ever done this? Any advice?
Thankyou in advance.

The general consensus around here is that it looks bad to start something and not follow through with it. Why don't you see if you can talk to the med admissions office at your school and see what they say? Either way, I think you'll have to come up with some very convincing reasons why you want to do medicine over dentistry after only 1 month in dental school. Good luck.

Thanks I was planning on getting a hold of the med school on campus. I feel it would be irresponsible of me to just withdraw and leave the school missing out on 250k in revenues. If I could stay within the same organization I would feel much better about it. As it stands though pulling out early is better than finishing and doing it all over again. I want a career ill love but im not willing to commit financial suicide for it.

stay dental and work towards maxo?
