Does anyone else not have an "accepted" status on their merlin account and secondary application status page? I've received all the acceptance information in the mail but I still don't see that I'm accepted online and I can't find the additional financial aid forms they said would be on my merlin account. Hmmm...

Hm, your acceptance must be a hoax.

:meanie:

kidding kidding - just call the office of financial aid or admissions tomorrow. Everyone I've talked to at the school has been VERY friendly and very helpful.

I'm in the same situation as you, Hullabaloo, and I'm gonna buzz one (or more) of their offices to figure out what's up like Aggie08 suggested.

Same here, I just checked. Nothing changed in merlin. Does anyone have a working merlin account?

Odds are, if none of us can log in, then whoever the IT person is has not gotten around to updating it.

Yea- I sent an email last night to financial aid about those "additional forms" - haven't heard back yet...

Hey everyone! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! I'm so stoked about starting med school this year!

I can't wait to get a fresh start at medical school, free from any preconceived notions or old grades!

This is fantastic. What preconceived notions, exactly?

The past few post have been a great break from my studying... and I agree- I think all of us have preconceived notions about Habeed/GeraldMonroe... though I would be interested to see which ones he was specifically referring too

They're not preconceived if they're based on experience.. :meanie:

Did anyone ever get in touch with financial aid about the forms that still need to be filled out but aren't available on the eraider website right now?

Funny, I just got off the phone with them. 😀 I also sent them an email last Friday but didn't a response, which is why I called today.

After giving some personal info so they could look up my file, it apparently seems that there was an error or glitch where those emails were sent to people who were not supposed to have received them. In short, their bad, and nothing extra on my (our) end to fill out for financial aid. I would call and check in about that if they don't send out another email about this, but I've already filled out my FAFSA thus my surprise about more forms to fill out.

If you didn't know about it yet either, there apparently is a SOM scholarship application that gets reviewed in May that we can also turn in:
http://www.ttuhsc.edu/som/admissions/files/SOM_Scholarship_Application.pdf
After looking at that application (which was under the 'Current Student' heading), I wonder they would really use it for the entering class since one of the boxes asks for Campus Assignment...and we have not been assigned those yet. I guess it's good to look at it first at least.

So basically, If I've filled out the FAFSA, there's nothing else to do in regards to financial aid until the school contacts us about it? Do I understand that right?

That's my understanding, especially after having seen this before:
http://www.ttuhsc.edu/financialaid/documents/InstAppInfo.pdf

However, if you got that email, I don't think it would hurt much to call in and check to see if they still got it. After all, other screw ups can happen... :scared:

That form also asks about your academic standing in medical school. I wonder if they award the scholarship to students who do super-awesome on test grades? Then again, it also asks if you lived in a rural area for 8 years or more, and what your specialty interest is. I don't suppose a student who put "no" and "plastic surgery" as their specialty interest would be likely to receive the scholarship...

Better to have some theoretical chance of getting it by turning in the form, considering it probably only takes 15 minutes to fill out, as opposed to disqualifying oneself by not turning it in at all.

As far as our academic standing, that's simple: MS0 (Accepted but not yet started) 😉

Oops. I thought that meant how you "stood" against your class. Silly me.

That's always possible; if we're meant to turn in the application before we start though, answering in that light should also be simple: equal standing? :luck: No grades = no differentiation. At the very latest, can always ask the MS1's at Spring Training what the word is.

Of course you did, Habeed.

I must have missed something....what email or letter did y'all get??

TTU Health Sciences Center
Student Financial Aid Office

Dear TX_NFS:

The TTU Health Sciences Center has received information regarding your financial aid application for 2009-10. Currently we need additional information before your financial aid awards can be calculated. It is necessary for these items to be completed before we can proceed further.

To view your missing information, please follow the appropriate link below:

I have been assigned an eRaiderID - (http://webraider.ttuhsc.edu) Logon to WebRaider and select the MyTech tab.

I have NOT been accepted to a program at the HSC. (https://www.ttuhsc.edu/merlin/) Logon and review the documents you need to submit for your financial aid file.

Please review each of the academic periods displayed. If you lack forms to complete your aid application, most items are available via a link from these locations. Missing documents must be submitted by the last date of enrollment for the current academic year. Failure to submit all required documents could result in the loss of financial aid eligibility.

If you have any questions, please contact us: [[email protected]] or [123-456-7890]

**NOTE** Written notifications of documents missing for your aid application(s) will not be mailed.

Thank you,

TTUHSC Financial Aid Office

What's with this second page nonsense?? 👎

Apparently that email you all got was only sent to a "trial group" and that's why nothing worked. She kind of laughed and said, "be happy you aren't in the trial group....there were just a fewwww glitches."

Sooo, if you have yet to receive correspondence from the financial aid office - fear not! 😀

Anyone else get the email about the SPA/JAMP coordinator position this summer and is thinking of doing it? Any current students on here that have done it in the past? If so, how did you like it?

yeah, just saw that. Though I didn't go through a program like that, it sounds like an interesting opportunity to get acclimated and involved early.

I just have too much on my plate to complete before I leave my current job to consider it though. In a different situation it would definitely be something I would consider.

Guess someone else was interested, it already got filled!

I never got that email- maybe cuz I am OOS??? Or who knows... oh well I have a summer job

me neither...
i thought maybe they were sending them out in waves alphabetically (teacherman = C, maggie08 = T) and then it got filled before they got to me...

but you're also a C, so that busts up my theory... 🙁

I think they were specifically looking for a dude.

oh haha, well then that makes sense!

and i've already got summer plans, too. I was just paranoid that stuff is being sent out without me! (haha, will we ever out-grow premed syndrome?)

$3000 for a little over a month of work is pretty darn good 🙂

You don't suppose they actually managed to sort our email addresses by gender, did they? I mean, given all the issues we've heard about does not leave me with much confidence in the tech savy of the school's employees.

AKA the "we can't support a non-Dell laptop"
or "e-raider log on? What's that?"
or "we should email to tell you we got your deposit and letter accepting your spot by the deadline? Why?"

The facilities might be nice, but I'm not exactly expecting MIT levels of computer usage...

This name-changing craziness is confusing me. 🙄

O and P.S. I'm a girl (duh) and also didn't get it. So yes, I think it might be the "they were looking for a dude" answer if we're simply going off who has reported on this forum that they did or didn't get the email.

well that and this sentence from the email.

At this time I am in need of one MALE Coordinator as all other positions have been filled.

LOL

considering I hadn't read the email (and am female....and didn't get it) I had no idea it said that.

these pieces of evidence lead me to believe that yes, in fact, they have separated us by gender.
habeed. work on your reasoning skills.

:c)

I'm only joking.

it's currently 27 degrees and snowing in lubbock.

can't wait for that.....

Ditto. Where are you all planning to stay?

I know this is relatively old, but the thread was about to go to the 2nd page!

I think I'm gonna stay over at a current student's place for Spring Training (like I did for my interview)... gotta save those pennies wherever possible.

Great! Same here, though I've never stayed with a current student before. A little nervous about that, but I'm thinking it's a good way to really get to know people and saving a little cash never hurts.

I stayed with a student on two interviews and I would definitely recommend it. I am bringing the wife and son to spring training, however, and will be getting a hotel. Anyone else bringing someone else with them? Any hotel recommendations?

Do you think it's better to put or not to put my mom's info when filling out the FAFSA?

I've heard thirdhand that some medical schools want to see parental information on the FAFSA before they decide to give out "need-based" aid. However, I left that section blank and was offered a $2000 scholarship like everyone else who turned their FAFSA in last month, I think. (we all can, since medical school is graduate school, we don't need parental info)

I turned in my FAFSA in January and haven't heard back from them yet- did you get an email or what? I might need to call in... I am OOS though so it might be that

I got a letter. It has to be that you're OOS.
