Texas Tech (Lubbock) c/o 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I turned in my FAFSA in January and haven't heard back from them yet- did you get an email or what? I might need to call in... I am OOS though so it might be that

500!
:hardy: congrats!

What's with this second page nonsense?? 👎

Apparently that email you all got was only sent to a "trial group" and that's why nothing worked. She kind of laughed and said, "be happy you aren't in the trial group....there were just a fewwww glitches."

Sooo, if you have yet to receive correspondence from the financial aid office - fear not! 😀

Just in case some of you missed it.

I bet we just weren't in the "trial" group. She acted like the ONLY financial aid correspondence that has gone out was to the people in this group - including an email and a letter. Could be wrong, though.

I still haven't heard anything either, someone said they send financial aid stuff out in april.

I haven't heard anything either.

It's okay!! Me neither, they will contact us soon I'm sure.

Well I was in the trial group getting the messed up email... but my thoughts are it usually takes 3-4 days longer for anything to get to me from Lubbock so if they did send me something it will most likely be next week...

I have patience though so I am not too worried.

Hope everyone has a good weekend! Looking forward to meeting some of you in 3 weeks in lubbock.

I am moving in on July 24th... my family will have to drive a U-Haul across the country and my parents didn't want to do it too early or they would have to come back for White Coat.

So when is everyone actually moving over to Lubbock?

We are hoping to move in mid July. A couple of weeks to get settled in before things get hectic. We have to sell our house in Houston and are still looking for homes to rent in lubbock. Guess that will factor in.

Has anyone else gotten any financial aid information?

Thanks for any info 🙂

my friend is leasing a really nice condo in lubbock. it's a very very nice place with stainless steal appliances and a bunch of other perks. i'd live there in a heartbeat but it requires a roommate and i can't handle anymore roommates!

here is the listing:
http://www.mcdougalproperties.com/properties/mainstreet/main_street_condos.php

PM me if you are interested and i will give you his contact information.

Fellow Tech 2013'ers: Guess what?!?!?!!?

We'll be M.D.'s in 1500 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:hardy: :soexcited: :hardy:

*assuming a may 18 grad date... extrapolated from past calendars

Anyone take that medical aptitude test on facebook TexasTech COM 2013?
A personality test has never been that off!

I did, I actually got EM first - which is what I've been interested in for a while. 😛 Guess we'll see in four years, huh?

I did too- my first 2 weren't stuff I was that interested in (aerospace and physical and rehab) but my 3rd and 4th were the exact fields I have thought about since I was 13... Hematology and Oncology... who know what will happen though once I am doing rotations

ok so i went and took the test too, my first was pathology, followed by endocrinology, cardiology, opthalmology, etc. etc. neurology was 6th though and that is a field i could see myself doing...guess they assume you are smart enough to place into a field like opthalmology ha ha ha, too bad they don't know me.

My first choice was RADIOLOGY! Never considered that EVER!
My fields of interest, cardiolgy, infectious disease, preventive medicine, at the bottom. I guess i don't know myself that well.

general surgery, plastics, and ortho all in my top 5...along with occupational med and opthalmology which i have no interest in.

i've always been interested in orthopedics and ob/gyn. ob/gyn was way down on my list.

silly test but kind of interesting.

Saved from the second page!

For the specialty personality page, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. I got prev. med and its related fields, occup. / aero. / etc. med. I even took a screenshot of those results to compare for later if I fancy it: maybe once right before starting classes, once after 2nd year, and once after 3rd year.

so less than 2 weeks until spring training...anyone beginning to get excited? I think we should come up with some way to recognize our fellow SDN-ers that will be there. 😉 any ideas?

I'm excited! Maybe we can all sport something memorable & ridiculous. I call the beer helmet!:scared:

Name tags with our screennames! and current avatars!

ahahaha okay I'm kidding. Talk about nerdy. :c)

P.S. Fancy meeting you a couple weeks ago. You totally caught me off guard, I thought someone had caught me surfing online at work (I only get to do that on the rare occasion they have me give shots - no computers in the back) and then ended up being a creepy stalker. I was much relieved to realize you weren't a scary stalked, lol.

that specialty quiz was interesting, more or less what I expected.
radiology, hematology, some surgical ones in the top 10. FM and peds were a little lower than I expected, don't tell admissions. 😉

as for recognizing you guys, I'm just the new guy here so who really cares about me. But I think I'm facebook friends with a lot of you through the group, but no clue how to put names -> SDN names though. Spring training should be fun regardless.

Also, is there anyone planning on driving from the Waco/central texas area that wants to carpool/caravan up to Lubbock?

Spring training in a week and a half...we're going streaking!

Anyway, just wanted to move us back to page 1. Anyone still have no idea where they will be living next year?

man, ya'lls spring training is going to be so much better than ours, we have quite a bit of money to spend on a party

I still don't know where I'll be living... was holding out just in case I got into A&M via the waitlist... (I must admit I feel like a traitor for saying that, but it is the truth).🙁 I think tech will be great, it's just my boyfriend can't move for a while and well... he's pretty great and I can't imagine seeing him only every other month or so. (not to mention it would be a heck of a lot cheaper to just keep living with him). I'm planning on going up on Thursday for spring training that way I can look at apartments before the weekend stuff. The A&M admissions people told me not to give up hope when i talked to them in march, but i figured if I haven't heard anything by spring training I might as well decide on an apartment in lubbock.

So here's to packing myself and my dog up and moving 8 hours away to begin a journey that scares me to death right now!

as a side note, gobaylor, maggie, etc. I will be driving from college station (through waco) to lubbock but I was going up a day early so i figured no one would want to carpool.

I have to admit though even though i'm nervous about this whole thing, it is comforting to feel like I have "friends" that will be there with me too!

Has anybody heard any more information about spring training? I was expecting another e-mail rather soon..

I still haven't heard anything else.

I was waiting to see about the current student provided housing until i decided when I was going up.

Initially my thought was to head up thursday like Shan and use friday to check out some apartments and play a round of golf at Rawls before the dinner that night. Then I decided was just going to go up friday if I could find some other people to drive up with.

Depends if I have a place to stay thursday night or not. I'm sure we'll hear something soon.

have they told you guys who you're staying with during training? I volunteered my place but haven't heard anything about someone staying here

Nope, nothing new from the school itself nor directly from current students.

so found out from an "insider" that the "unranked alternate pool" actually consists of a ranked list and i'm at a spot that he considers it highly improbable that I would get into A&M, so... lubbock here I come! 🙂

I received an e-mail a week or so ago asking for my flight times and such and one more recently to see if I am comfortable staying with someone who has a similar flight schedule as I do.

i just got an email about who is staying with me so i'm guessing you guys will get them here pretty quick

Good to hear that the arrangements are being set; I called Student Affairs and verified that my mailing to them with the forms made it, so for me for now...

/twiddle

I'd really like to know the plans for the weekend, also. I can't believe they are waiting this long to give us a set idea of what we'll be doing.

I am a planner and this is frustrating me, 😛

I'm getting excited to make the trip to Lubbock next weekend! 🙂

Hopefully not cause you want to freak out your future classmates with streaking...

Also got the itinerary email last night, with the juicy parts pasted below for anyone curious or for those who didn't get it. I didn't get any info about a student host, so I'll be buzzing back about that. I also believe that the MS1 President (who sent out the email) posted her contact info on our Class of 2013 Facebook group wall if you need to buzz her.

You think KFC is still open? Seriously though, would anyone be that freaked out since we're all about to start getting intimate with a naked human in August? But really seriously, I am not going streaking for real!:xf:

Hey teacherman, looks like its a little cold out there huh?

Did everyone get their housing assignments? I've only received an itinerary so far....

you and NFS probably want to email eunice about that pretty soon.

She emailed me the student hosting me last friday.

dress like you're trying to get laid

Basically Melt is a club downtown and we have it until 10pm which is when it's open to the public and we all are going out or staying there or whatever

After I contacted Lindsey, she forwarded me to Eunice, who hooked me up on the spot! I'll PM you her email address.

The first thing I saw after searching for it was its Myspace page... :meanie:
http://www.myspace.com/clubmelt

But then I found its own, official, site:
http://meltlounge.com/index.html <---- I'd say copy the looks of the photos here (even though I have not seen them without Flash enabled at work).

Edit: Ignore me, I bow before the MS-1's specific advice. 😀

Yeah, Eunice already set everything up this morning. Everyone's been really helpful.. 👍

That clears it up a bit.. I was thinking shirt and tie, but I think I'll ditch the tie...
