Poll: Orgo II and MCATs at the same time?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

How do you feel about taking the MCATs at the same time as Organic Chemistry II?

  • It's no problem. The MCATs have very little Organic II on it.

  • It's okay as long as you take a decent MCATs prep course.

In response to this thread about the options available to me regarding my sciences classes, I'm posting a poll to see what the consensus seems to be.

Explain your reasoning if you'd like.

i didn't vote b/c none of the responses pertain. took Orgo I and II at the same time as studying for the MCAT. It was a gruesome ordeal but now that it's over i don't regret doing it (my gf does, so i feel guilty, but that's besides the point); don't plan on having a social life and plan on getting very little sleep; and you will not have time to do your apps at the same time. so make sure your PS is written before the summer. My MCAT format had very little orgo on it, and what was on it a spretty simple, so i could have taken the MCAT without the course but other formats had a lot more orgo than mine did.

it's nice to have the ochem fresh in your mind. At least for me anyway.

yes, that was a really good thing 👍

none of the above. ochem II is necessary for the MCAT, but its not rocket science. its possible to do both at once.

Why do people call organic chemistry "orgo"?

Why not just "o-chem"?

Call me old fashioned, but the latter just makes more sense...
I sorta agree, i just followed the OP's lead. But lots of people call it that; i've also heard it referred to as "organic"

I currently work in a research lab full-time. I haven't taken ochem II though, so for the spring semester, do you guys think taking ochem, an mcat class (and studying for the MCAT), and work would be too much? Or should I just not take ochem II until later, and focus on MCAT prep? I'm planning to take the April 2005 MCAT.

Thanks for the help! 🙂

it's possible...i did o-chem, MCAT studying and volunteered 40+ hours every week. it's not easy and puts a tremendous amount of pressure on you and there's no chance to do apps, so if you are planning on doing this, make sur eyou are mentally and physically prepared for it and get your PS done before it. (due to the fact that i had just missed a month of spring semester and had to catch up just before finals, did not afford me much time to get my thngs in order before attempting that summer routine...just do a better prep than i did and you'll be ok) good luck!

"MCATs" is not a word (you're only studying for one of them), but I don't think it would be a problem to study for the MCAT and take o-chem.
