I'd just thought I'd draw people's attention to the following changes for those considering coming to the UK to work/study.

http://www.bma.org.uk/ap.nsf/Content/newimmigrationrules
http://www.nhsemployers.org/workforce/workforce-723.cfm

This effectively means, from April 2006:
1. Permit free training for overseas doctors is ending.
2. Equal Opportunities policy will no longer apply for doctor's job selection.

This means that Trusts will employ UK/EU doctors in preference to overseas graduates irrespective of qualifications and irrespective of visa status.

There's also a site where foreign doctors are trying to protest against these new changes:

So if I have an EU passport, this doesn't effect me right?

Can EU citizens apply to any postgraduate program in the EU?

AFAIK, yes to both of those questions.

Unless your 'EU passport' is from one of the recent accession countries (they are somewhat restricted in their access to jobs in the 'old' EU for the initial years of their countries membership). If your country was party to the original EU contracts, you have at least in theory the same rights as a UK citizen.

I got a passport from one of the original EU countries. So its all good for me. :D

thanks for heads up, great to be an irish citizen

If anyone is interested in going to the EU, they might want to check into their ancestry. Some european countries have 'ius sanguis' citizenship that allows you to get a passport for example if your granddad was a citizen.
