ppl always pm me about the 10 week EK schedule or my 7 month EK schedule.
It became kinda hard to follow up with every request and email stuff to everybody so i decided to post it here:

10 week schedule
7 month schedule
Hope that helps.

If MODs would be so kind to put it into a "sticky" so it is easy to find it for everyone....that would be great 🙂

:luck: :luck: :luck: on the MCAT everybody 😀

Thanks so much!!!!

Am I missing something; it seems like the 7 month is the same as the 10 week?

it is the EK 10 week just stretched into 7 months. If you read my other posts you will know more about it.
I posted it because ppl ask me for it all the time.

thanks so much; i'll just use the 10 week plan a couple of times; still undecided when i'm taking the mcat.:scared:

dr.kicia,
I haven't had Organic Chem in a long time so I don't remember a lot of things. I am working full time right now so taking an Organic Class would complicate things. But even with work, I am capable of following the 10 week and the 7 month schedules to the fullest. So, in your honest opinion, is it possible to follow the schedules with my current situation and still do well on the MCAT? Basically what I'm trying to establish is whether the EK books, the audio CDs, text books from school that I have, and of course plenty of hard work will be sufficient or should I plan on pushing the MCAT date farther down and take an Orgo class?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions! 🙂

Did you take the diagnostic exam yet and started studying? When do you plan on taking MCAT?

if you don't remeber much of orgo then instead of jumping into EK book for orgo i would first recomend you spend some time with "organic chemistry as a second language" by Klein (you can find it on amazon here there is 2 books for orgo 1 and 2 and i absolutely loved them).
Also i recomend AO, especially if you drive a lot and are able to concentrate on the tracks while in the car).
You can do it just do a lot of practice, buy AAMC exams and you will be fine. Make sure you concentrate on your weaknesses and stay on top of the shcedule. Good luck 🙂

Dr. kicia -

I'm in a similar situation as nimish but in regards to physics and gen chem material. I just started a postbacc program this past fall and will be finishing up orgo II and bio II this spring semester. I've already taken all the remaining prereqs. However, it's been about ten years since I've looked at physics and gen chem. How would you suggest the best way to review this material? My hope is to take the MCAT either in May or June. Do you think this is doable?

for physics hands down i recomend Nova physics book. You can get it on amazon for about 15 bucks so it is not that crazy. EK book is good for the review but to be honest it is realy just bare bones if you ask me. If you don't remeber the material that well then Nova will be very hepful. They have an example of every possible problem listed by the topics.

Also buy EK 1001 books they are realy hepful. As far as gen chem goes i am also a little dusty with that material and find the Berkeley Review books to be extremly helpful. What i do is i study from the EK and when i have difficulty with some topics i reference to the Berkeley Review books. You can get them on their website or sometimes on ebay.

Also use google...you have no idea how much info you can find on the internet...and it's free 😀
There are tons of very usefull tutorials like this one which is my fav.

and to answer your question...yes it is doable, you just need to stay focused and organize yourself. Falow a schedue and practice, practice, practice...i myslef am taking 22 credit hr this semester and plan on taking MCAT in May. I am a little scared but i know i can do it...it wil be no life semester but it is doable 🙂

dr. kicia, i have already started studying and have physics and gen chem pretty much finished. bio/anatomy/physio and orgo are my weaker areas right now. i think purchasing those books that you recommend is not a bad idea. i already have the Audio Osmosis CDs and will be recieving the 1001 series next week in the mail.
i plan to take the MCAT probably in May of this year....what do you think?

well since everyone started to seak advice from me...a little clarification 😀------->i am probobly not the best person to give advice because i am still to take the MCAT in May for the first time (i hope it will change after that  ).
But researching the materials, reading through some of the EK, Kaplan, and Berkeley review books and being here on SDN for quite some time now, i can honestly say that EK hands down is the best home study out there.
I think that upper classes like physio and anathomy may deffinetly help your confidence while reading related passages on the MCAT but they are not required to answer q's correctly. And if you have Ek bio book plus 1001 bio and Orgo as a second language then you are golden for the bio section.
:luck: :luck: :luck:

Well, regardless of you taking the MCAT yet or not, you seem to know what you're talking about. 🙂
Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I will probably come back and bug you some more if I have any other questions! 😀

According to that 10 week study, is that really a good way to go about it? I've been just reading straight through the Biology book so far. Is it a good idea to read through a single lecture from each book? Just wondering if this would get material mixed up a little? Thanks.

Jonathan

it depends on your study preferences.
The 10 week schedule is what EK recomends. For me it is fine. I even prefere to study different subjects. Besides if you just do one book at a time, by the end of study you may not remeber anything you read in the first book. Mixing the subjects gives you variety which is a nice brake. I cannot imagine going through the whole gen chem book and just chem book...it's nice to go into bio or phys for brake.

i am doing one at a time now but eventually will combine them.

Dr. Kicia,
I took your advice regarding the "Orgo as a second language" book. I have to say that these books are pretty good (except for the last few chapters where they make you do the leg work). I am just about done reading the Organic 2 book and wanted to ask if you have a book suggestion that covers the cell/physio/bio areas fairly well? I have the EK book, but I was wondering if you knew of a book similar to the Orgo books you suggested. Those were very easy to understand and I loved the step-by-step approach they used. So if you have something similar for the Bio science area, please do suggest one!
Also, do you think that the Orgo books that you suggested cover enough material to do well on the exam in that area? As I mentioned earlier, I haven't had Orgo in a while and with a full-time job, taking an Orgo class seems kind of difficult at the moment.
I'm open to any and all suggestions! 😀
Thanks again, in advance!

i think if you just concentrate on the stuff in EK (read it like 3 times cover to cover) you will be fine with physio/cell bio stuff. As far as orgo as second language goes i think if you supplement that with EK orgo book you shouldn't have any problems with orgo on the test. Just make sure you practice and understand all stuff in EK.
:luck:

Thanks for all of the info! A quick question: is your 7 month schedule just a drawn out version of the 10 week schedule, or is it more personalized/in depth and involving more than just the EK stuff? I've got about 14months until the MCAT, and I'm trying to devise a 400-500hr schedule...any tips?

my 7 month schedule is just a stretched version of EK 10 week schedule. I also took in account the times when i had finals etc.

Is this 10wk schedule given to you if you enroll in one of the EK courses? Or is there something else that they give you closely mirroring this? Could you do this while doing their course?

Where did this 10 wk thing come from?

i don't know about the course because i never took one. The 10-week schedule comes from Jordan. I emailed him and he was kind enough to forward it to me. The 7month one is a stretched version i made for my own use.
