This thread is for all of us waiting for Father Pritzker to bless us with a spot on the waitlist and, eventually, to admit us into the Class of 2011.

I called Pritzker today and was told that the waitlist would be made at the end of this month or at the beginning of next month. At this time, they did not know how many waitlist spots would be offered. A letter will be sent to candidates who have been given a spot.

I was told that they are not accepting people directly out of the continued pool now. Continued applicants will have to be waitlisted first.

I was also told that only two applicants were accepted off of the waitlist last year. This number doesn't change much for previous years.

Almost all students who were interviewed but not ultimately accepted have been continued. All of this seems to imply that those of us in the continued pool have a very small chance of ultimately being admitted. As close to zero as you can get.

Ouch. This is bad news for those of us continued. But thanks for the info.

Wow, my stomach just dropped.

I have chosen to be optimistic for so long because the continued letter seemed to imply that if continued people show interest even after being waitlisted, they will "contract with time." I don't have the letter in front of me, but I'm pretty positive that is what they said.

Will you guys reread your continued letters and tell me what you think? Maybe I've been misinterpreting it the whole time...AARGH.

So when I called I spoke with Maria. Maybe she was just keeping it real. I feel that sometimes admissions people can be purposely nonspecific and vague. In this case, Maria was pretty clear.

Or maybe Maria looked at my application (I did giver her my AMCAS ID# and she put me on hold) and was referencing my specific case. You may hear something different if you call yourselves or perhaps speak to someone else.

just to keep the hope alive: it looks like 6 SDNer's got off of the pritzker WL last year...that's definitely better than 2, right?

:luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

welp i guess she was butt wrong. if you found 6 SDNers who were accepted off of the waitlist, then surely many more were moved off the WL. i don't get it. has anyone else asked pritzker about waitlist movement numbers?

When I was in high school, I delivered groceries to the Pritzkers... maybe I should call 'em up! ;-)

is the waitlist made yet?

they are meeting this week to re-review the remaining continued candidates to form the waitlist. those who are waitlisted, i'm guessing, will be notified starting next week.

my question is: how many do you think are cut?

Hey Lady K, who did you speak with? how many are continued?

my status page changed from unknown to yes last Thursday, and I haven't received a word from Pritzker. Obviously I did not make the waitlist, good luck to those who are still continuted!

Hey Lady K, who did you speak with? how many are continued?

I spoke with Joni (via email), who was incredibly nice to offer up this info (not a surprise, given pritzker has some of The Nicest people working in admissions).

But I don't know how many are continued...anyone else have an estimate?

sorry about that (although, u haven't received any notification yet, so no news might be good news)

Thanks Lady K.

I called them a few days ago as well. They may send out the waitlist before May 15. Or they may not. I was told the same old huha: you are continued and still being evaluated, send us updates. The woman I spoke to was mostly mum. I don't know, I haven't found the University of Chicago as chatty and goodie goodie gumdrops as others have. Maybe this is because I've had better experiences with other schools. I was told my position on the waitlist even before the letters were sent out at a couple schools. I have a feeling that if I called Pritzker on May 14 they still wouldn't tell me anything.

i recently withdrew my acceptance at pritzker so hopefully one of you guys will get that spot. best of luck!! :luck:

muchas gracias for the withdrawal. i love you. and i love johnny depp.

Spoke to Dir. of Admissions today... they will decide the waiting list next week, by either Mon/Tues/Wed... good luck to everyone! 🙂

I would presume that, although a waitlist is created, those of us on it will not hear anything until we are accepted off of it or rejected from it. Consensus?

if you make the alternate pool i think you will be notified next week. if you don't, i'm not sure when a notification will be sent but i can only imagine that this implies a rejection. either way we should know next week.

Should we expect wait list movement today?

Has anyone even found out that they're on the waitlist yet?

I talked to Mr. Owen and he said that late this week for the waitlist.

I just heard about a kid getting an email from Pritzker admissions very recently... saying that he got in! What a lucky guy!

Also, a friend of mine got in last year right before May 15th. I'm so jealous...

So do you think we'll find out today if we're on the waitlist? I hope they'll email us, and not send us a snail mail letter which would take forever...

I don't know. I couldn't really tell if they were going to a) make a decision by the end of this week or b) inform us of their decisions by the end of this week.

Hoping for the latter.

Has anyone's status pages changed? Mine still says unknown.

I just spoke with admissions and they said the latest day for choosing the waitlist would be Friday, however they did not know if we would be contacted by email or snail mail. Looks like another loooong week =P.

So, I'm supposed to go meet with David Owen to discuss my application/status... obviously I've done a lot of preparing and planning for this...and I took a whole day off work...and on my way there he calls me and tells me that though he can't find my file, I am not on the waitlist... ie... don't come.

I guess though I am rather pissed at the moment, he is a nice guy. I must be pissed because if I was in any other less subjective field, my 4.00 GPA and high MCAT might get me somewhere... sometimes life just sucks.

Guess I'll just have to look on the bright side... I'll have to take the scholarship I was offered to a good state school... instead of paying $75,000+ for each of my 3rd and 4th years of med school at Pritzker.

So they've made a waitlist already? The front office won't tell you if you're on the waitlist but if you schedule an appointment and take a day off they will?

The way they handled that blows my mind. I'm sorry you had to hear that way. Did you consider going ahead with the meeting? Surely they must remember something about you without your file. How do you lose an application?

I understand you are upset, but leaving David's phone numbers out there for everyone is in poor taste (esp. his private line). I'm sure it wasn't his fault (i.e. you booked the appt with a secretary and he looked on his calendar today to see this) ... try handling rejection with a bit more grace next time ...

NormalWishart, you obviously are in admissions and you obviously know who I am. I am sorry if I offended you or your colleagues. I also apologize for putting David's numbers on the thread; however, I just want to give other hopefuls the chance to communicate their appeals, just as I (per say) did. Since you have deemed the posting of the numbers inappropriate, I have removed them. You say "I'm sure it wasn't his fault (i.e. you booked the appt with a secretary and he looked on his calendar today to see this)". Maybe it was not his fault. However, I did have an appointment with him a couple weeks ago, before the waitlist was determined. Yes, he called me in the morning, sick, to tell me that he would have to cancel, but I had already taken off work and scheduled other appointments in Chicago for the day. NOT his fault. However, he TOLD me to reschedule with his secretary. I simply followed his directions, and I scheduled another day off work. If this information was not communicated to him, it is not my fault. Today, I called him early in the morning to confirm this new appointment, just in case.

This is my defense, and you can cross-check the information with him as you please. However, I would not like to continue this any further, for there is no good to come from it. What is done is done.

The post was not meant to be a personal attack on David Owen. When it comes down to it, I still assert that David Owen is a wonderful person. My post was simply meant to be an 'anonymous' post on an internet thread sharing my feelings and experiences with strangers... just a sort of self-cleansing to get it all out (I really had my heart set on Pritzker).

Take care,
Paco

To answer your first question...I don't know for sure...but considering he couldn't find my file, yet knew I wasn't on the waiting list...I'm assuming its basically done. It was indicated to me that many people accepted their pritzker offers, and that the waitlist would be very small.

To answer your second question...think yourself...what would you have done if someone was taking a day off of work to drive far to visit you to discuss their application, and he/she had already been rejected without knowing it...? Hopefully you would have done the decent thing like he did, and let me know.

Third question... I didn't consider it. I was too upset to speak or think. I just pulled over and sat in my car for a couple minutes. Anyways driving any further, considering the price of gas nowadays and scarcity of my time, to discuss a failure didn't make any sense.

Fourth question...I don't know what was up with him saying he lost my file...but it didn't matter after I was told I was not on the waitlist.

Hope you have better luck yourself!

Yikes! It seems you sort of shot yourself in the foot here. But I understand why you were frustrated. It couldn't have been easy to find out that you weren't accepted to a school you clearly cared about very much, while driving out of the way after taking a day off of work no less.

I'm not sure that any of us who have responded on this thread are "in admissions." Still, I think you should be careful about posting identifying information about yourself (you posted your major, your GPA, your MCAT score, and now your first name) or about anyone else (e.g., a private phone number). Too many people read SDN. Of course you already know this.

I'd also like to throw out there that Pritzker hasn't been bad about replying to e-mails. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that there are hundreds of continued applicants. I don't see why they haven't been able to give us an update on our application, even if only to notify us that a waitlist has been created and that we haven't been forgotten, but they've been responsive to some of my e-mails.

Anyways, I wish you the best.

1. Helllooo....Paco is not my name.
2. I did not shoot myself in the foot. I found out I was rejected. After that, how can you shoot yourself in the foot? Very simply put, I apologised because someone took it the wrong way, thats it.
3. He IS in admissions because he knew information about yesterday's situation that I did not post.
4. Yes, its got to be hard to be in an admissions department. I was simply venting about my unfortunate situation.

OMG, I just checked my status and it says Final Committee Decision has been Made: Yes

I dunno what this means?? Anyone else get this too?

Alas, mine is still unknown.

mine still says unknown. i can't breathe...

I've got a ream of bubble wrap that I've been popping in nervous anticipation.

so, good or bad?

azura dragon, are you hanging in there?

my status just changed, too, to final decision made: yes.. but i havent heard anything from them.

reject??

so obviously this is just one instance, but a friend who's status changed to "yes" a couple weeks ago received his rejection letter in the mail a few days later. :\

i'm still unknown and haven't received any contact yet. oh the agony.

i called the office today and the woman i spoke with at admissions also said that they are finishing reviewing the remaining continued candidates this week to create a waitlist. however, the woman i spoke with 2 weeks ago, and 2 weeks before that, said they would be making a waitlist the following week - so i'm hoping for notification by the end of the week but would not be incredibly surprised if we had to wait one more.

hope this helps you all waiting. i know i personally am going a little nuts.

yeah mine just changed to yes as well...at this point, im kinda glad it did, so now i can just know either way 🙂 good luck to everyone!

did anyone call to find out what the status changes mean? I would call but i'm afraid i would stammer over the phone or if i'm given bad news, i might start crying... whoever calls will get accepted  😉

🙁 I called.... and they told me I did not make the waitlist

Good luck to everyone else still alive!

sorry hlchess. I guess its goodbye to pritzker. its been fun though. Good luck to everyone that made the list! :luck:

Hi everyone,

I just withdrew from Pritzker, so hopefully one of you guys will get my spot! I absolutely loved Pritzker and was excited about starting in the fall, but I was recently admitted to a school on the East Coast, where my SO will be attending medical school.

Best of luck!!
