***Official Nova CDM Class of 2012***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey hey.

I got accepted to Nova and USC. East or West coast. Im still needing to think about this.

Congrats to you all.

There is a pretty good chance I'll be one of your classmates, but I have heard a lot of Nova hate and need to find if there is any truth to it before I make a decision! Anyone else worried about how things really are at Nova?

Go to Nova. you may sit on the stairs to watch lectures every once in a while, but you'll graduate.

I'll likely be attending Nova!

Every Dental school will have its issues, but you will be fine at Nova. Yes, they only have 85 clinic chairs, and also have low clinical requirements. This is the only real issue I would be concerned with.

When i was there they told us about having an additional clinic site in Miami which is helping to alleviate that problem.

Did anyone check off on their application that they'd be interested in the DMD/DO program? I know I got into the dental school, but I didn't find out any details on the dual degree. Anyone in the same boat?

It's also supposed to be much more like a private practice set up 👍

Awesome, another Floridian 😎

Where's everyone else from?

Nova does not have any of the problems any other dental schools face. It is nice that they have a separate clinic down in Miami Beach (been only once during a first year shadowing rotation) and seating in lectures can be hard to find after first year when they introduce about 30 international students into the class. Have not got to clinic yet but from what I hear, there are no huge problems in there. Most of the faculty is nice and laid back, they will try to help you graduate to the best of their abilities.

Hearing things like this does alleviate some of my fears, but I don't know how many of you read anonymousnova's Nova hate thread a while back. My guess is that he or she is just unable to cope with some of the problems but I am worried about finding a seat in lecture halls. I don't want to spend a couple years sitting on the stairs!

Try reading through this blog. It is a blog by a girl who documented her entire time at Nova. http://www.blue-harmony.com/index.php

Im in too! Im from FLA. Havent made decisions yet though!

then get to class early! It's not that big of a deal! lol

I did read the thread that you're talking about, but i also read the replies from current dental students at the school, and asked about the same issues at my interview. Both responses quelled my initial fears about Nova. I'd be happy to be part of their class. Maybe I will be, just gotta hear from a few more schools before i decide.

I'm going to Nova for dental, and my girlfriend is an M2 in their DO program. She has NEVER had a problem getting a seat in lecture hall (and the DO class is larger than the dental class). Each school has its inherent flaws and missteps, you just need to go where you feel you fit best. You won't really know until you try, so just make the best decision with the info you have. People are going to talk bad about each school, because dental school is stressful and people get frustrated and exagerate.

DO class at Nova is huge and they take their classes in the large auditoriums (we take a few classes with them and there are plenty of seats in those classes...neuroanatomy, histology..and then you take some with optometry like gross anatomy and pharmacology...always can get a seat). However, a lot of dental classes are in the small auditoriums where seating is not as available, it is fact. I don't think seating should be a huge issue though in deciding where to go to dental school.

i am booboo's girlfriend 😍 just wanted to see why he is on this msg board all day!!

it is true you can't compare med seating to dental seating.. we are notorious for skipping class. but the only complaint i've heard from the dents are about the lack of chairs in the clinic.. otherwise they seem to be pretty happy with the school.

congrats everyone.. enjoy histology and don't be late cause dr dribin knows everybody's name by the first day of class and will call you out!

Dr. Dribin is funny... her and her schmutz cells & pee pee epithelium. i was in the m.s. in biomed. sciences at barry university and we had a lot of the same teachers that teach at nova dental. for histo, i didn't have dribin, but we used these dvds that she made to study for our practicals. she seems really cool. Dr. Panavelil for pharm is also HILARIOUS

omg LOVE him hahaha he's awesome

dribin has an even more inappropriate sense of humor in person.. shlongs and tittie cells were some of my personal favorites

Thinking abotu NOVA... can someone give me suggestions about their experience. I am having a hard time making up my decision on what school to go to. How do i decide. Im getting a lot of peopel saying that i should NOT go to USC

I believe I'm on the waitlist for Nova. The only way I know that is from calling them. They havn't sent one letter or e-mail out. Does anyone know how they handle their alternative list?

I know this is a little premature, but is anyone else planning on moving into residence? Or will you be commuting?

I'm excited to be moving down to FL!

Ft. Lauderdale current temperature: 77F/25C
Toronto current temperature: 37F/3C (Wow! It's above freezing)

Hey guys, been lurking here a while, finally decided to post. I'm in south florida (about an hour away from nova), so if any of you guys have any questions about the area, I will try and answer.

Looking forward to meeting everyone in the summer!

I had my interview on the january 4th and I haven't heard anything from Nova. You had your interview later than mine and you are accepted. So, Am I more likely to be waitlisted or rejected?? I am getting nervous now 🙁

Had mine on the 2nd and still nothing 😱 I called and they said there was no decision on my application, and to call back on the 31st. Might want to call and check up if you haven't.

Dr. Lippman told me I will hear from them at the end of Junaury during my interview. So, I have not worried, but after I looked at this thread, I realized that everybody hears from them in 2 weeks. But I believe that does not necessarilly mean we are rejected. Let's be optimistic and just wait 😎
