So I realize this is about a month and a half premature of when Penn is supposed to release decisions, but I know there are folks out there with a lot of love for Penn and are waiting to hear back. So I figure why not have a thread all our own?

Also, who else was kinda bummed when the status page changed to say that decisions would be released not the week of March 19 but the week of March 30?

Oh no! I hadn't seen that. That's so disappointing! Well, I'm with you!

Yeah..the extra wait time is sad. Although, it says "announced by March 30" so maybe there's a chance it'll happen earlier? AMCAS requires you to have handed out as many acceptances as you have seats by March 30th, so maybe they're just using that date as an absolute deadline? Meh, who knows. I really do hope they do it earlier rather than later though, the waiting is killing me, even though I fulling anticipate a waitlist/rejection. I don't know about you, but I"m definitely going to start sneaking peeks at the application site starting around March 20th, hehe.

Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed 🙂

I would give my first born child to them for a spot. It is my dream school and it's giving me so much anxiety waiting! The worst thing is, they are so competitive that its difficult to predict who they want. 😕:scared:😱

here let me help: congrats .. 40S wtf .. 🙂

Lol. Thanks.

Yeah, definitely. I feel like interview went well there and whatnot, but as you mentioned, it's so competitive. I just hope fortune falls our way!

sooo nervous, this is my first choice by far. i love it at penn because not only is it a ridiculously good school but it's also full of really friendly people. plus it's in philly and i love philly 🙂

Out of curiosity, is Honors at penn pre-clinical based on a set numerical score or a percentile rank relative to the rest of the class?

They're pass/fail there is no honors

They are pass/fail for the first half of year 1. For the rest of year 1 until the end of pre-clinical classes in year 2 they are Honors/Pass/Fail. I don't know how honors is given so I can't help ya hra!

"Module 1" i.e., first semester (basic sciences) is pass/fail. "Module 2" i.e., second and third semester (organ systems/pathophys) is honors/pass/fail. To get honors, you need a final grade >= 90%. We just finished our first mod2 course and 53/150 people got honors. So it's not at all based on a curve, but rather on how well you do. I personally think it's a really good system.

That sounds like a pretty good system to me. Can you put in a good word for all of us?

Anybody want to wager as to when Penn decisions will be out? The status page says by March 30 so perhaps it could be before then?

Nice score, haha. 😉

Good luck for Penn! If you really would choose them over your other acceptances, let them know. I think in your situation it would probably do you some good (unless Penn doesn't like LOIs or whatever.)

Does anyone know if they send out an e-mail in addition to the status page update?

Actually, I think they do. From what I remember reading on last year's threads, they send an email to everyone who interviewed letting them know when the status page has been updated to show final decisions.

Thanks. I would choose them over the other schools, but I also have finances to consider so I can't really send them a letter of intent because if the financial aid doesn't work out I wouldn't be able to go. Baylor's tuition is just so cheap.

But finances aside, Penn all the way!

I'm really hoping to get into penn. I had a great interview there. They seemed to be into me, but I'm still rather nervous about the decision. I wish they would come out sooner!

MMeeeee too! I definitely had one of my best interviews there, so I'm really hoping that'll push me into the "Acceptance" pile despite me average (for Penn) numbers. I'm all nerves starting in another 2 weeks!

Yea I'm so nervous! I don't know if it's better or worse that we don't know exactly when decisions will come out.

oh man, during my faculty interview, my interviewer actually started doodling on a piece of paper.

i think i got the hint buddy....

its too bad, because i really did love the school.

haha, mine put his feet up on the table and got even more relaxed

Haha, my student interviewer and I talked about whether he should buy Rock Band or not...and how to play a low pair in texas hold em.

I just wanted to join the thread - here's to knowing Penn decisions!

If I get into Penn I will buy myself rock band and become uber skilled in it over the summer as a pat on the back.

I had a great interview with the faculty interviewer, we really got along, and he apparently liked me, because he called a friend of his in Texas and was like "oh yeah, I interviewed this girl, we'd be lucky to have her, and she has this scholarship thingy called Temple something..." and his friend was a friend of the Temples. So the friend told the Temples (couple whose name my scholarship is in), and the Temples told me! Small world I suppose.

nomoreplz, that is an awesome story. You might as well count yourself in at this point 🙂

BTW, you are killing it this year. congrats on all of your success!

and Texas is just that awesome

Looking at the other people posting here makes me feel like I don't have a chance! You guys are amazing! I'm excited to hear, though, because I couldn't have been more impressed with Penn.

Whatever. You have a great application! Fulbright scholar plus publications?! Kicking *** man.

Does anyone know how many acceptances penn initially gives out? i know the students who have penn as an option usually have a lot of other really good choices and also that penn takes a good amount of its class from the waitlist. anyone have the numbers?

i think they accept close to the number of students in the class (ie about 155) and then pull from the WL. good news is there tends to be a lot of waitlist movement...

Arg...I'm going to be so sad if I get waitlisted...even more waiting!! I'm already going crazy waiting until the end of this month, I don't even want to think about waiting until June/July to see if I get off waitlist 🙁 That's potentially another 3 months of waiting!

I'm totally with you. I feel like I've been waiting for so long already.

Haha, same here. I was floored that I even got an interview! Especially after reading some of the profiles of people who got put on hold. Haha, makes me so paranoid that they invited me by mistake, eek...

Oh, and I'm also the owner of the lowest MCAT score in this thread (of those profiles that I can see)...yay...

man i loved penn. hoping to receive an acceptance to lift my spirits after the losing the love of my life, brett favre

Yea somewhere on the website it says that the Committee on Admissions gets together one time in March to select students.

Whoa...that must be a looong day, I mean, they interview a couple hundred people...I'm kinda curious how they do that in one day. Maybe they have a number system to help them sort it out more quickly? I can't imagine going through some 600+ files in one day to pick out 150 ish.

Yea I think I've read somewhere that the interview is given a score and then the Adcom gives the whole application a score. The one day might just be choosing the top 150ish scores. Total speculation though.

Is anyone in the mood for a little Penn cheerleading? I would be interested in hearing why so many people have such strong positive feelings about it.

I was impressed with how thoroughly they presented the school at the morning presentation, and I really liked my tour guide, student interviewer, and faculty interviewer. I also like the 1.5 yr of basic sciences so that you get into clinical rotations earlier, and that it's attached to the undergrad campus. And they also offer a whole bunch of dual degrees and great overseas opportunities.

I dunno, I got a really chill vibe from the school, and all the students I met (including some in the PBL group we sat in on) were all pretty cool and friendly and funny.
