Hey, I'm new to SDN...if I say or do anything out of place, feel free to correct me :X

So far, from my previous school (freshman yr) I've had all A's (with 2 A-'s in gen bio), with one B+ in history...and I'm doing pretty well with my other two courses (non science) this semester at my transfer school, with the exception of organic...and...I'm determined to do extremely well in organic chemistry 2, biochem, as well as the rest of my future courses...but I do not want to give up the premed track because of ochem, since its often labeled as the "weeding out" course...

Since I'm almost positive I made a C in organic chemistry 1 (still waiting for final grade), is it still possible for me to get into a US med school, preferably NY?

Any feedback is highly appreciated!

One C in your transcript won't hurt you, there are a lot of other factors such as MCAT, volunteering, ECs... etc

Just stay focused and try to get good grades and you'll be fine!

A C in a prerequisite doesn't look good, but there are various ways to redeem it. You can repeat and get an A or B (which you should do if you didn't really understand it well enough to do well on the mCAT), you can get an A or B in OChem II, or you can get an A or B in Biochem. I agree with the above poster, that one C is unlikely to kill your application to US allopathic med schools. Now go forth and do better.

Thanks for the responses you two,

I guess what I'm really worried about is that C is a really big deal...like an ink stain that just can't be removed...

but nonetheless, its reassuring I can redeem myself...hopefully everything goes well. :scared:

So it turns out my final grade is actually a C+, which of course I'm still not very proud of... Should I retake the course again in the summer if possible ( I hear that u can only retake if there's a C-, need to be confirmed)?

And what should I do to guarantee a better understanding/preparation for Organic Chem II? I plan to read and practice problems from the textbook over the winter break...but should I also purchase some study guides also (ochem as a second language, etc.)?

How do schools look at a C in Organic Chemistry, given my current position...and possible potential future ones?

Yea, I'm still extremely worried >_< but a little less than before.

Thanks you guys once again! You give me hope :luck:
