According to this post about 350 people get wait listed, including those accepted from the list and those who withdraw. But that's from a somebody who heard it from somebody else, so... hard to say for sure.

I find that very, very unlikely.

I know that Upstate, which I consider to be a very, very similar school to Buffalo in terms of desirability, had a waitlist size of 45 a two months ago. By the end of the season maybe that will balloon to 100 or 150 at most.
 
last year around this time, there was some movement. I'm hoping there's movement right now but people just haven't been posting. :xf:

lets get all the upper 1/3rd in already!! 😀

If you check out the regular Buffalo thread, there have been at least 2 people who have been accepted off the WL recently

They were accepted off the WL before this thread was started.

EDIT: Actually I take that all back. People were getting accepted off the top and middle tiers back in March as I recall.
 
they were? i've been reading the regular buffalo thread and didn't see that, but wow, i guess when UB says that they continually accept people off waitlist, they really mean it!
 
yeah i saw that. that person from the middle third probably got bumped up without knowing it. great, hope to see more movement soon.

Got bored today at work and sifted through some old buffalo wl threads, and according to this post the wl is about 200 people, though again, I don't know how accurate any of these estimates are, and whether or not the wl varies significantly from year to year.

So the typical year will have most/all people getting off the top tier, some getting off the middle, and few to none off the lower. Apparently last year 100% got off the upper and middle tiers and they dipped into the lower tier.

Hopefully the latter is the case for everyone in this thread this year :xf:

Just keeping this updated with the newest accepted from WL in the main thread. I assume they were both in the top 1/3. I've also taken the liberty of changing the order of the key at the top since it doesn't make any sense to have it in reverse. And it may be confusing, especially for colorblind users.

my boyfriend was upper 1/3 of waitlist, found out mid-March (the day after his interview). he was accepted on monday, via snail mail.

Interviewed 10/7. Waitlisted - middle 1/3. My friend interviewed in early November. Waitlisted - Upper 1/3. We both got accepted 4/23, so the waitlist is moving 🙂

Congrats on the acceptance, beachbabe27! Do you know if you moved up from middle 1/3 to top 1/3, or if you were pulled straight from the middle 1/3?

I'm going to echo that sentiment. The whole purpose of saying "top, mid, lower" is so we have an idea of where they are in the waitlist. I doubt they've hit the middle tier yet seeing as we apparently have people on the upper still waiting.

Well it was moving last week anyway. By putting the old people on the list we're getting the illusion it's moving faster than it actually is. I'll start getting excited when we see people that were on OUR top 3rd list moving to accepted 🙂
 
I called the admissions office today and asked if I could get an update on my position on the waitlist - I can't deal with this kind of anxiety! Mr. Rosso was extremely nice and told me that I had moved from mid to top third. The waitlist is definitely not static; it might be worth the effort to call in and ask for an update :luck:🙂:xf:
 
Talked to the admissions office today to asked them about waitlist process. The lady who answered the phone told me that sometimes people get pulled from the waitlist out of order because the committee sees certain attributes that make a specific candidate attractive. So in sum, occasionally people are pulled from the middle and bottom third before Buffalo gets through the top third. There was actually an interesting article about undergrad waitlists in the NY Times a couple of weeks ago. Nothing earth shattering, but interesting, and I imagine the systems various med schools use is not too far off.

haha, i called today too (since their last interview day was yesterday, the waitlist should be pretty much set by today right?) luckily, i didn't get bumped down ::whew::
