I've applied here... Anyone else in the same boat?

Yup i applied here as well. This is a school with a much different environment than most. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good luck to everyone!

I also applied here. Gosh this place seems to process information ridiculously fast.

'AMCAS application received' notification - June 20
Request for Supplemental Application - July 1
Supplemental Marked as Complete - July 11

I know that Quillen screens applicants before sending out secondaries

Anyone gotten theirs already?

Verified: 07/14
ETSU e-mail noting that they received my primary: 07/20
Secondary: 7/22
Application complete: 8/1

in-state

I got an interview invite a minute ago for September 12! Anyone else here with the same date?

I have that date also. Do you know where you're staying yet?

I already reserved a room at an Inn 10 minutes away from the campus. The prices are not bad at all in Johnson City.

We should meet up. PM me if you are interested.

Are the folks that got interviews regular admissions or early decision program? I'm just curious because I've been complete for a month and a half now. Congratulations to yall too.

Thanks! My secondary was completed on 8/1 for regular admission.

Yeah I was marked complete July 11, so I wonder what's going on. Would have thought I would have heard something by now... whether good or bad news.

I have September 12th as my interview date as well! Congratulations to everyone. 🙂

Nice! It makes it three of us here. I've heard that their interview batches for a given date are around 6 people, so we have at least three more to report 🙂

I'm regular admissions.

There was somehow a mistake on my MD applications and it did not indicate that I was re-taking my MCAT. Does anyone have an e-mail address contact with ETSU where I can e-mail someone about re-considering me for admissions?? They sent me a rejection letter based on my old score (understandable) but I am above their minimum now and think it is worth a shot (since I'm in-state). Thanks a lot in advance.

Congrats to those who have already received interview invites! I'm an M1 at Quillen and would be happy to answer any questions that any of you might have.

I'm not sure who you would e-mail. I would probably just call the admissions office and ask them about it.

Just like Rocher wrote, in your situation it would be more appropriate to call them. The phone number I would suggest is:

Edwin D. Taylor, Assistant Dean for Admissions and Records
(423) 439-2033

Good luck!

I actually do have a quick question. From the perspective of someone who is already a student at Quillen, what do you like the most about the school? Is there anything that you don't particularly like?

Since I'm only 6 weeks in, I don't have a complete picture of Quillen, but I'd say what I like most is how supportive the environment is. The staff is super friendly and really tries to get to know each student, and the students in my class are surprisingly open to helping each other out. In my experience, if someone has a helpful resource, they will let everyone know. Some people have even gone out of their way to make study charts for the class. While this is highly dependent on each particular class, I think the admissions staff tries to accept people who play well with others.

There is nothing as of yet that I dislike about the school, but as I said I am only 6 weeks in so that may change. Also, since I've never attended any other schools, I don't really have a comparison to judge it by.

Good luck on the interview trail!

I am instate.

Hey Juicebox, I'm instate also and have been complete since Aug 25, but I have not heard anything yet. What are your stats?

I've been complete since July 11 and haven't heard anything either. I am also instate.

What *is* their minimum MCAT? I didn't see it on their website, but could've easily missed it...

Thanks!

I don't know the minimum, but the average for accepted students is listed by USNews as:

9.6 MCAT composite score
9.7 biological
9.4 physical sciences
9.8 verbal reasoning
O writing

I think you are better off looking at the average - the chance of you being accepted, rather than at the minimum - the chance of you being considered.

I've never heard of there being a cutoff score, I'm not sure there is one. It really depends on the rest of your application.

Some schools do have clear-cut lower limits for the MCAT score, but I didn't see such limit at Quillen. Out of the schools I applied to, I think four had those stated explicitly. It's usually something to the tune of 7+ on verbal, 8+ on bio, etc. Anyway, I don't think looking at those is useful at all. If one is way below the school's average for the matriculants, but just slightly over the minimum, I think (in 99% of the cases) it would just be a waste of a secondary app fee.

3.7 overall GPA

3.5 science (a high school math class brings it down from a 3.65)

31 on MCAT (11 Bio 11 Physical 9 Verbal)

I did visit the school in May, so that might have something to do with my interview being so soon.

Maybe I should schedule a visit?

I scheduled a visit to let them know that this was my number 1 school and to kind of visit the campus and the area.

Wacko0500,

when were you complete.

Complete 8/25 (potentially 8/30 if they waited on my MCAT retake).

But my scores were a little overkill for ETSU (you can search, but I don't want to post them in this thread), so I wouldn't worry if you haven't heard anything. Also it's my first interview.

Has anyone on here called Quillen to find out your status? I have been complete for about a month and have very competitive stats. 3.98 GPA MCAT >30

I am assuming this year is like other years, in that last year, I was complete for about 10 weeks before I finally got an interview invite.

I just received an interview invite for Monday, Oct. 31st. 🙂 Is anyone else going to the same date? Also, I'm OOS and I was wondering if anyone knew the best place to fly in to and get to Johnson City, where to stay, etc.

I'm not familiar with Johnson City itself, but I can tell you that Knoxville is the best place to fly in. That is, unless you want an excuse to visit Nashville. It's a bit of a drive from here (3-4hrs), but a nice one during the fall. And if you’re applying to Vandy or Meharry, it’d be a good excuse to pique interest in your application by contacting those schools to let them know you’ll be in the state.

Good luck!

I would probably stay at the Red Roof Inn, it's decent and costs around $50 a night. It's less than 10 minutes from campus.

According to today's email, they have reviewed my completed application and have placed it in an active holding category. I believe at the pre-interview talk our group was told that this is the only status you can achieve before Oct. 15th. Does anyone know more about this? Is Oct. 15th some sort of AAMC first acceptance release date?

Any out of state applicants? I received the email confirming my AMCAS was received, should I expect and secondary and interview if im Out Of State?
