I think there is no magic number but..

I got 2 interviews already, but 2 rejections as well, feeling bad today.🙁

I sure hope no one answers this thread with a yes.

I'm wondering tooooooooooooo :scared:

ok... I don't want this to sound douche-y, BUT... I have 8 interviews, and the thought that I get accepted to none ALWAYS runs through my head.

I'm really REALLY grateful for these opportunities to visit and interview at schools.... But it is kind of like football, it doesn't matter what happens in the game because, in the end, all you want is the "W."

So, no matter how many you interview at... if you get rejected from ALL of them, then it was pointless.

That is my concern, haha.

Christ, 8 interviews? What are your stats?

i thought i was the only thinking about this. I have 6 interviews and I always think about getting rejected at all by Dec 3rd

^--- RIIIIIIIGHT?

What are the chances of that?

I always think to myself, "if THAT many schools have invited me then... it's not a mistake, and hopefully that means I have 'something' they are looking for enough to accept me."

But, then I just think.. I'll be that guy on SDN that people write about for years:

"there was this one guy that was rejected from ALL 8 he interviewed at..." haha

you're not so lucky to be that "one guy". I just feeling bad today, sorry guys.

hmm maybe it was their interviewing skills that were the problem

you would think after 8 interviews you would be a master?

The worst that I have come across is this one member that had 7 interviews but only 1 or 2 acceptances. Most cases, people have an average of 3-4 interviews and 3-4 acceptances.
So just go into your interviews with an attitude of acceptance, then you'll be accepted.

people on this site need to relax a little

Dude, this website was made for one reason... For people that can't relax to converse. It's the nature of the beast.

My friend had 9 or 10 interviews last cycle and got wait-listed at all... then eventually got rejected. In the end... you can have 1 interview and get 1 acceptance... or you can have 10 interviews and still get 1 acceptance. IMO, all you need is 1 interview to wow them to land an acceptance.

How many of them were pre/post december interviews? I would think if most of your interviews are pre then you have a pretty good chance. Feels like post-december interviews are the admissions being a lot more picky since only a few seats remain by then.

She had all pre-december interviews. But she is a bit on the quiet, introverted side... so I think that's what affected her interviews. Do well in your interviews and you'll be fine.

I had 4 interviews two years ago and ended up with 1 acceptance, 3 rejections (1 WL eventually became a rejection). I knew going into those interviews that I needed to do really well in them in order to get in because my GPA was on the low side, and average DAT. So do well in it, the interview is a make or break for many people!

Obviously things are never set anywhere but I'd say 4+ interviews is pretty good. Good luck everyone!

I was that person last year! -_-

Late DAT. 4 post-dec interview invites. Went to 3. Last invite was really late (in April) when I figured class was full. From the 3 interviews I went to, 2 waitlists, 1 rejection, 0 acceptance.

I've learned that it's important to have confidence in yourself as an applicant, but also not to have high expectations. Don't believe you're accepted until the acceptance is in your hands!

Don't stop believing, but also be realistic. At least, that's what I'm telling myself this year 😀

A friend of mine applied three years ago and was invited to 5 interviews but was rejected at all of them. He had decent stats but he dropped the bomb on the "Why dentistry" question by saying that his orthodontist as a child said he would make a great dentist because he was able to fix his retainer with some glue... Not joking. I didn't know my friend until he was already accepted and he told me about it. He ended up hiring a private company to review his whole application, personal skills, interviewing skills, and literally every email or phone call he made to a dental school was scripted or looked over by them. He ended up getting into a few schools the next cycle.

What purpose did this serve?

Sigh......

What purpose did this serve?

So that maybe other people who are having a difficult time getting in or going over there application might consider other options like this. Having another person proof read everything you write and help you with your interview skills by having a personal assistant is something that would probably help a bunch of applicants. Didn't mean it in any negative way, if that's how you took it.
