Hi everyone,
This is my first ever time posting here so I might be making silly mistakes. I'm doing terribly in Gen Chem II (Totally flunked my first 2 exams). I ended up getting a C in Gen Chem I, as well which isn't the best thing in the world. However I am currently taking Gen Bio I and I'm doing pretty well on it (Got 90s on both of my exams so far so I'm going to hunt for that A). I was wondering how bad would a W look on my transcript, along with that C in Gen Chem I? I feel like my medical school dreams are dying off honestly. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

One W isn't the end of the world. However, you do need to address the issue that is leading to poor grades in chemistry before you take it again . Also, realize that this puts you off from taking organic

Thanks for your reply. Yes it kind of stinks that I have to postpone orgo chem another semester, especially since I'm in my second semester of my sophomore year. I believe my issues lie in math when it comes to Gem Chem. I haven't taken algebra in years, and its been hurting me.

Thank you. I'm thinking about doing that but I believe if I drop it, my chem lab will be dropped too. What do you think about CR/NC?
ya it sucks but itll suck more if you get another C or a D and have to work your ass off to get your gpa back up when you could have just said im not doing great let me get my **** together and retake it. Im not familiar with CR and if by NC you mean non-complete youd have to ask an expert im not sure how it looks for admissions but id imagine a W looks better. could be wrong tho

Oh Okay. W doesn't get factored into DO science GPA right lol ? and NC is no credit. Equiv to NP (no pass).

W is not factored gpa wise. It does show on the transcript though. Find others on here to answer about NC not sure how thats viewed compared to W. i had a few Ws and got II so its not that big of a deal if you have one or two. If you have many scattered out thats when it becomes an issue

Please, change your study habits and strive for A's and nothing else. Adopt the mentality that anything less than an A is an F. Otherwise, you are going to be back posting a lot more after graduating with a not so great GPA. Take it from someone who has been taking extra science classes to raise his GPA and will likely need to do a SMP to get into medical school.

I was wondering if it'd be okay if IK what your stats were or at least the range ? If its okay with you. It'd be a big help because I'd love to get IIs too once I apply lol

🙁 I learned my lesson the hard way now. I'll try to get an A in everything from this point on. I'm currently at a 3.6 GPA and hopefully I won't let it fall. Thanks for the advice

Please do and that's a healthy GPA you got there. Anything below an A is Failure remember that. Finish undergrad strong. Don't overwhelm yourself with difficult classes. Block out a couple of months to study for the MCAT and don't take it until you are a 100% ready. Get into the best DO/MD school you can get into. Good luck.

Thanks for the great advice! I'm hoping to get that A in Bio and hopefully preserve my gpa from getting hit from Chem 2. I just have a difficult time with gen Chem becuase I'm sucky at algebra 🙁. Hope I can fix that problem because or else I'll run into problems with physics.

There's methods that work, just find one that does for you. Tell yourself organic has no math 😉

@JustTooLit What's your overall and sGPA between freshman year and this year? If you really "flunked" the first two exams then withdraw and spend the extra time to prepare to take the course this summer if you're trying to graduate in four years (assuming you have to complete Biochemistry by the end of your last year).

Sadly I cannot take it in summer as I won't be here because of some family issues. The problem with dropping the chem class is that it'll drop my lab class too, which I'm getting an A in despite it having a huge courseload. I'm just so stuck right now :/

My science GPA thus far is a 2 sadly because of that C in Chem 1. However, I'm pretty confident that this semester i can end bio 1 with an A so that gpa should go up soon. my overall gpa is a 3.6

@JustTooLit I don't understand why you think getting an A in Chemistry lab matters when you are failing the actual course. It's like telling someone you took a bet from someone to burn your house down, but you still got $50 for doing it.

Drop Chemistry lecture/lab. You need to do it before the withdrawal deadline.

The thing is chem lab is a separate 3 credit course in my school
