Hi guys, I recently took the DAT and I'm worried mainly about my low RC score. I heard many people say that Reading Comprehension is the more important section of the DAT. Especially some schools have a 20+ RC average for matriculates..

Here are my scores:
21 PAT
17 RC
17 QR
20 BIO
25 CHEM
30 OCHEM
TS: 23
AA: 22

My GPA is around 3.7-3.8 range.
What are my chances of getting in this cycle? I‘m a California resident but I plan to apply broadly.

I wouldnt consider it to be much of an issue as you have great scores overall. Just be prepared for an interviewer to ask you why you scored low on those compared to your other scores.

Every dental school treats the DAT subscores differently. Outside of DAT AA and PAT, individual faculty members may have their favorite subscore. RC is one of those scores that some faculty are going to use to disqualify you if it's low, but others would rather place weight on other scores (like TSCI). You're going to have to network with admissions recruiters at the schools where you really want to go to and get insight into the tolerance of "low" RC scores during application screening and subsequent deliberation for offers.

I can see why you would be concerned but I would NOT retake. As was said already, you have great scores overall and your GPA is solid. If you retake, you may risk getting lower scores on your other sections. I would apply broadly as your scores are now and make the rest of your application great. You will be fine. Good luck!
