Hello everyone,

I'm a career changer, currently have a bachelor's in Economics from a prestigious university. I took an advanced general chemistry course and an organic chemistry course my freshman year in college, but did not take lab classes with them. Also, I received C's in both classes. I have the following 2 questions:

1) Would you recommend that I start at the bottom with Gen Chemistry and Biology classes and take them with lab?

2) I'm planning on attending an out-of state, 4 year university to complete my pre-reqs in the Fall, but would like to complete Gen Chem 1 and Gen Bio 1 with labs over the summer in my current state. Would dental schools frown down upon taking these first 2 initial classes at a community college? I'm from the Chicago area and considering taking the pre-reqs at College of DuPage. Would it be better to take them somewhere like Northeastern or Loyola? UIC has a class schedule conflict.

Thanks for your help!

Dental schools will not only frown upon taking prereqs at a CC, they simply aren't allowed. That is the rule....there may be exceptions from schools. But as far as I know, prereqs must be taken at a 4 year university. And if it says lab too, it means it. Your application may be passed on if you do not fulfill the requirement. I was accepted to school, but I applied to one that required a year of O chem and I only took one semester, and I never even got an interview. So, definitely visit the websites of the schools you want to apply to, make a spreadsheet of each one's prereq requirements, as they are slightly different school to school.
