1. I can't seem to get a clear idea on whether or not I should put activities from high school from the forums. I wanted to put two things, a mission trip and helping out with mentally ******ed children for about 70hours and mentoring a kid after school for about 50 hours. Even with the high school activities I do not meet the 15 work/activities requirement. Should I leave the high school stuff?

2. I wanted to post my 3 meaningful experience essays on the forum, but I am afraid that someone might plagiarize and the adcomms will use some kind of internet website to check to see and get rejected from all med schools as a result. Is it not safe to post my essays here, and do adcomms even use things like safe-assign?

Thanks SDN!

1. The general consensus is that high school activities should not be included on AMCAS unless they were continued and developed throughout college as well; see the following threads:
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/hs-activities-not-recommended-on-amcas-app-but.637082/
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/activities-for-medical-school-from-high-school.784633/
Also, 15 is the maximum number of work/activities, not the minimum requirement, so don't feel as if it's necessary to fill all the slots. In fact, it's probably better to include fewer and more significant activities than listing everything to reach 15.

2. I agree that it's not wise to post your essays word for word publicly on the forum. You may be able to PM the essays to individual members who are willing to read them and provide feedback.

Best of luck!

I apologize estukay, I did not think that the word I used was politically incorrect. Thanks for the new words. I will use them in my applications!

I think "******ed" tends to set people off for some reason. There is a new aspect of culture in the U.S now. People seem to take offense with inconsequential things that are not intended to be harmful.

Mental ******ation is perfectly acceptable. I've heard it used numerous times, e.g patient has history of mental ******ation. This terminology was used by physicians who had completed residency prior to this:

Edit: Here's the wiki for the law that was passed.

Did you continue the activity into college? If not, don't list it. Also using all 15 spots is not required.

You should not put things from high school on your medical school application. 120 hours of high school volunteering is meaningless. You couldn't in the 3+ years since then accumulate a similar experience? It would be one thing if you continued them in college, but in isolation, if anything it looks odd/bad.

And mission trips really aren't looked at favorably unless it was right here in the U.S.. So don't include your high school stuff. By now you should have several meaningful activities to list.

You used the word (which is, however, becoming outdated) in a way that was appropriate and not unkind. The real problem is when '******ed' is used as a pejorative, similarly to how 'gay' was used until fairly recently. By the way, 'lame' is heading in the same direction, as it's offensive to those with impaired mobility.

The activity is a good one, and if you can revive it or tie it in somehow to things you did in college (thereby making it OK for inclusion), it would show a good side of your character.

To follow up on my learned colleagues comment, what happened in high school should stay in high school. High school activities get you into college. College activities get you into med school.
