hey guys, i'm just wondering as to which DO schools do the pass/fail type of grades instead of the letter grades? I think I read somewhere that some MD schools do it so just wondering if any DO schools do it too. Also, I was reading other threads about pros and cons of DO schools and was wondering about residency matches. I live in california and I'm hoping to go to a residency here and practice one day (God-willing!). Which schools around the country have matches here? I read somewhere the LECOM may not, which kinda sucks. Any other thoughts? Thanks a bunch!

I seem to recall Lecom-b being mostly pass/fail for it's pbl courses. This makes board scores extremely important of course.

While I have no ideas what schools are PF....why does this appeal to you? I know that if I were going to a PF school I would be studying for a 70 as opposed to an 85 plus like I am now.

Also, I have heard of issues with DO discrimination in southern cali. I think jaggerplate is from california, so perhaps hell have some more insight than me (eastcoaster)

I don't think this is true.

Little known secret of med school: preclinical years dont really matter much. Boards are ALWAYS important regardless of whether you go to a grades school or a PF school.

Even with a pass/fail grading system you're still ranked against your class, so you may have passed with a 70 but your class rank will be lower.

I think I remember reading on here that OUCOM and MSUCOM...and maybe Western were pass/fail.

Sorry, I meant that I didn't think PBL at LECOM-B was P/F. Agree that Boards are mucho important.

I've edited my previous post to clarify.

there isn't really any particular reason why I'm asking, I was just curious.

I work in a hospital in southercali and there are no discrimination again DO's here. So don't believe whatever you hear, when you're a Dr. then thats all that matters.

MSU COM is pass/fail, but technically they keep track of rank. The Dean uses it to write your LOR.

Hi! Actually, I was not worried about any type of discrimination with working in cali as a DO. I was more worried of the residency matches here especially if the DO school is in the east coast.

We're pass/fail at OUCOM with no ranking, though if you make top 10% in any class, you get a letter in your file.

Does the difference in grading system affect anything? Are there any benefits to having the letter grade vs the P/F grade and vice versa?
