hey all,
most likely these have been answerer before but im outta the country and the internet crawls here at 33.6k 🙁

1. when im typing up my personal statement in word, and i do a word count, i get a number for "characters inlcuding spaces" is this what should be below 4500 for the do app? or is there any difference between what the do app considers to be characters and what word counts?

2. i will be returing to the US first week of aug. about when should i submit the do app so that by the time i get there i will start recieving secondaries? clearly i dont want to do it too soon cause i wont be in the country, and i dont want to do it too late - as i will be heading back to college the last week of aug - and the do app has my permanent address.

1. Yes, spaces will be counted. As far as word and what it is when you paste it into the app. I had some issues. In word mine was 4497 characters but the app. said it was over no matter what I tried. I did all the notepad/wordpad tricks but had no luck. I finally just typed the whole thing into the PS box and yep...was still over. I went through and took out what I felt could be fluff words and then it fit. Word counted it as 4471 characters when it finally fit in the app. box.

2. I believe others are going to be able to answer #2 for you much better than myself.

It takes up to 6 weeks to process, notwithstanding any application errors. It should be sent immediately.

You should send it out as soon as you have completed everything.

thanks guys 👍

btw, will they just ignore the classes that i plan to retake next sem, or will they count whatever i have previously earned in them to calculate the gpa for the time being?

They will use whatever is on the transcript at the time you submit.
