3 buttons.
But only button 2 of them.
Got me accepted, must have been the deciding factor in my interview.
I thought that you should only button the middle button for 3-button suits, while unbuttoning it every time you sit down. By buttoning only the middle-button of 3-button suits and only the top-button of 2-button suits, the form and fit of either style should look very similar.
two-button as long as it's white
I got rejected for wearing a 3-button suit. I even unbuttoned the bottom button. So I now either wear a 3-button suit with the bottom button buttoned, or a 2-button suit with with all of the buttons unbuttoned, or either the bottom button buttoned but not the top button unbuttoned or the bottom button unbuttoned with the top button either unbuttoned or buttoned.
Two-button suits are wonky IMO. I'd go with a three-button and leave the bottom button unbuttoned.

Guaranteed acceptance.
Pimp cane optional.
Don't know if the votes for 3-buttons are trolling or not 😱
I am disappoint... You forgot the monocle.
I look better in a 3-button than a 2-button.
Of course none of it matters, it's just nice to look classy and to know what looks good on you.
Other random rules
Belt should match shoes
Socks should match your pants
No more then 2 out of 3 stripes (suit, shirt, tie)
be bold... wear a suit with velcro instead of buttons
I would avoid striped suits. They make you look like a Wall St. exec or an old-timey gangster. Acceptable as office wear, but not interview attire in my book.

2? 3?
This is the way to go:

This^ Absolute class.

Maybe male interviewers will be more critical of what a guy is wearing, but I certainly wouldn't know the difference.
I think my grandfather bought liquor from this guy during prohibition for his club.

Seriously. 3 button suits are almost universally terrible looking, and the only times they even look acceptable are on people >6' tall.
Since you probably don't have time to read the entire Interview Attire thread, here is the gist of what you should go for:
1. Navy or charcoal suit (no black)
2. TWO buttons. Never button the bottom button. Always button the top one when standing, and unbutton it when sitting.
3. No waistcoat/vest. A vest is not somehow "more formal" (just like a 3 button suit is not "more formal") despite the odd belief by some neophytes that it is.
4. White or light blue shirt.
5. Simple silk tie with a subtle pattern (navy pindot tie is a good example). You do not have to avoid reddish hues at all, but try to avoid flat out bright red as it's just ugly. A burgundy colored tie looks amazing with both navy and charcoal suits.
6. Cap toe balmoral shoes (closed lacing) in black or burgundy. Bluchers (open lacing) is acceptable if it's all you've got.
But to reiterate the point most relevant to this thread, please do not wear a 3 button suit.
You guys are seriously overthinking this. My cheap suit from the Sears clearance rack went on four interviews and got itself three acceptances and a waitlist. Anything black or dark gray is going to work just fine.
