I'm wondering how long every generally spends on those secondary essays that ask why you want to goto that school.

i'm procrastinating majorly and really should get started!

does it take a few hours for 1 essay generally? the essays are all generally really short too

thanks in advance

CRAP!

I just found two typos on the secondary I sent to Hopkins yesterday...CRAP CRAP CRAP...where did I put that Bacardi

I've been spending about an hour on each essay. Alot of the time when you write one secondary essay it turns out you write 3 or 4...if you get my drift

it takes me forever to write anything... just to put everything on paper takes about two hours for a 500wd essay (and thats usually recycling bits and pieces from other stuff ive written), then itll be another few hours for me to get it within the word/character limits and rewrite it to make it flow better.

Hey Premed kiddo..

you're going to be fine.. a lot of people won't start filling these babies out until august and september. you're not screwed, just get on the ball a bit. there's no way you'll be the last one to submit your secondaries..so just breathe 😉

~LR :luck:

I, too, received the UPenn snail mail invite yesterday. I also received Temple's secondary via email yesterday. UVA also yesterday, but have not yet filled out - three essays 😡 !!!

I think you'll be fine but just don't let them pile up because that can be a recipe for a stressful situation. 🙂

Anyone heard yet from EVMS, Indiana, or UC-SF?
I know Vandy and Emory pre-screen, but does anyone have an idea when these will come?

I am out of state for all of them so I was just wondering. Maybe that makes a difference.... 🙂

You sure Emory screens? I was thinking they didnt..

I got UPenn and Rochester in the mail yesterday. Both were online invites, but neither application is up and running yet. Why bother sending them out then?

Not positive about Emory....just heard through word of mouth and we all know how reliable that can be. ;-)

I'm officially freaking out about U Mich secondary. I still haven't received it yet. Considering I have been the first one to get secondaries on this thread, I am thinking a rejection even before secondary. Probably no rejection letter either. They are going to ignore me. AHHHHHHHHH... :scared:

hey, i'm in the same boat. no need to worry... i also haven't received upitt, the hopkins letter, case, and some other stuff that i can't remember right now. 😀 at this point i'm like, if i'm rejected, hurrah - that's less money and effort to be expended.

i also take way too long with writing. i've decided that secondaries are the most painful part of the application part... for heaven's sake, a gazillion "why OUR school" essays? it's beginning to get to me... even though i've only done two so far.

I read on Vandy's website that they only give secondaries to people who are getting interviews ( I think). If anyone can confirm this, that'd be great.
Also, for the above poster on JHU, it is available on their website and they don't screen; but I think still a decent number of people haven't gotten anything yet in the mail, so just go get started anyway!
Good luck

Yeah just a letter and a brochure, telling us to go online next week and fill it out. I'm pretty sure neither one screens. They looked like generic letters sent out to all AMCAS applicants.

Hey, me too. I think we need to start a support group for all those who haven't recevied the U Mich secondary

Hey all, in the hopes of organizing this thread, I went through and made a list of the secondaries that people have received thus far. I'm sorry if there are any overlaps, and if I've forgotten anything please feel free to add it in. Good luck to everyone! 😍

I got a letter from Rochester also and was able to submit the supplemental. Did you use the link provided in the email, and then click on 'Supplemental Application'?. I had been having problems accessing it also, but when I went through this way, it worked. Don't worry, if you're applying straight MD, it takes all of 2 seconds (that is, if you don't have any family members that are alums or faculty)

Did anyone get a secondary from UChicago Pritzker? One of my friends says that she's working on it already, but no one here seems to have received one. 😕

Anyone?

All received this week except for Gtown which was last week.

Email:
GWU
Georgetown
Temple
Jefferson
Pitt
BU
Yale

Mail:
PENN
Hopkins

AMCAS processed 6/9

..lot of essays to do..

I am getting very anxious. I haven't received any secondaries yet. I'm not applying to too many schools, and it turns out that 4 out of my 5 screen (which is good financially for me, no more essays unless they are interested) so they are taking longer. Come on folks, my mailbox is lonely.

For UPENN, did you receive the packet saying secondary will be online beginning July 19th, or did you receive actual secondary?

Just their viewbook in the mail, and a note saying that the secondary will be up that week, and they will email us when it's up as well.

To Dr. Chiquita, that's great! I think they just wanted to try to cause an ulcer for one day for you (as if this whole process doesnt do that already!)

Dude, congratulations. You got a letter of rec invitation, right? Good luck with that.

Upitt(7/16)
Temple(7/16)
Gtown(7/7)
GWU(7/?)
AECOM(7/7)

Anyone know if we should submit the Tulane Secondary without an invitation?

I just posted this on another thread, but it's relevant:

I took some time and made this... maybe it might help to centralize all the info because there's plenty of threads on the same material. If people want to use it, i'll gladly update it for the next month or so and add the appropriate links etc (with the help of emails from people who get info, of course).

Nope you're not. I haven't gotten it either.

I haven't gotten Pitt either, for that matter. These schools must be hatin' on me.

Most Schools do NOT want us to send an additional transcript to their office-right? (In addition to the AMCAS verified transcript record)

Does Columbia?

Anyone know?

ben

Just a question for all of you who have started receiving secondaries:
When did you submit your AMCAS application and when was it sent to the schools? How long did it take before the schools sent you secondaries?

Thanks!

I'm still waiting for mine to be verified...not that there's any hurry since I'm retaking the MCAT in Aug. 🙁
