2005 Secondary Thread part 01

I'm wondering how long every generally spends on those secondary essays that ask why you want to goto that school.

i'm procrastinating majorly and really should get started!

does it take a few hours for 1 essay generally? the essays are all generally really short too

I've been spending about an hour on each essay. Alot of the time when you write one secondary essay it turns out you write 3 or 4...if you get my drift

it takes me forever to write anything... just to put everything on paper takes about two hours for a 500wd essay (and thats usually recycling bits and pieces from other stuff ive written), then itll be another few hours for me to get it within the word/character limits and rewrite it to make it flow better.

Hey Premed kiddo..

you're going to be fine.. a lot of people won't start filling these babies out until august and september. you're not screwed,just get on the ball a bit. there's no way you'll be the last one to submit your secondaries..so just breathe 😉

I, too, received the UPenn snail mail invite yesterday. I also received Temple's secondary via email yesterday. UVA also yesterday, but have not yet filled out - three essays 😡 !!!

Some people have hear from EVMS. I am applying there and have not yet 🙁, but someone on here has, and so has my roommate.

Hey ya'll i'm out of state for Vandi and Emory as well.. interms of screening.. Vanderbilt definitely screens and Emory does not.

hey, i'm in the same boat. no need to worry... i also haven't received upitt, the hopkins letter, case, and some other stuff that i can't remember right now. 😀 at this point i'm like, if i'm rejected, hurrah - that's less money and effort to be expended.

i also take way too long with writing. i've decided that secondaries are the most painful part of the application part... for heaven's sake, a gazillion "why OUR school" essays? it's beginning to get to me... even though i've only done two so far.

I read on Vandy's website that they only give secondaries to people who are getting interviews ( I think). If anyone can confirm this, that'd be great.
Also, for the above poster on JHU, it is available on their website and they don't screen; but I think still a decent number of people haven't gotten anything yet in the mail, so just go get started anyway!

do u mean traditional mail? so they mail u a letter saying "thats for your interest...blah blah...heres the link to our secondary"? seems like a waste of paper...

Yeah just a letter and a brochure, telling us to go online next week and fill it out. I'm pretty sure neither one screens. They looked like generic letters sent out to all AMCAS applicants.

I got a letter from Rochester also and was able to submit the supplemental. Did you use the link provided in the email, and then click on 'Supplemental Application'?. I had been having problems accessing it also, but when I went through this way, it worked. Don't worry, if you're applying straight MD, it takes all of 2 seconds (that is, if you don't have any family members that are alums or faculty)

Just their viewbook in the mail, and a note saying that the secondary will be up that week, and they will email us when it's up as well.
