Its a buncha info telling you to go fill out your ap online.
ah, i see. when i got that i was kind of confused, as they had already sent the link to their secondary via email days ago. hell, i had actually mailed back the certification form after filling out their sec app online before i got their stupid packet telling me to do what i had already done. damn my overachieving compulsiveness!! :meanie:

hey does hopkins screen applications or does everyone get the invite?

Yay, GW secondary, my first one. Felt jealous of all you GTown and Cornell, etc. applicants who got theirs last week. Hopefully the first of many, dont think my numbers are low enough to exclude me from any 2ndary lists. Also the reason I am not TOO excited about getting them... 🙁 😳

Hi LRmed2003. Give it sometime. You will get a big brochure and an invitation letter. I'm 110% postive that Hopkins DOES NOT screen. If they did, I wouldn't be getting one for sure.

they did say in the email that they appreciate my initiating the app and they invited me to complete it.

hey dr. chiquita, are u talking about the email that says "We are pleased that you have begun the application for Columbia
University College of Physicians & Surgeons and we encourage you to
submit your completed application electronically...."??

i started the online app without getting anything from them and then a few minutes later I got that email....so i dont know if it was because i started the app or if this was the actual invite that just happened to come at the same time...thanks!!

AMCAS processed 7/1/04
Received by schools 7/6/04

Secondaries received:

Georgetown 7/6/04
Cornell 7/6/04
UC Irvine 7/7/04

UCSD sent me info saying they had my app, but nothing more.
As Tom Petty so eloquently says, "The waiting is the hardest part..."

Yale email 7/13
bringing it up to GW, Cornell, Baylor, and Ohio all via email

Yup, that's the email exactly. But I think it was a coincidence that you got that email right after you initiated application. Because I started on the app long time ago, then I got an email maybe two weeks later.

I also got that columbia email a few minutes after i started the secondary application. The subject was "Welcome to the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons Application" so i don't think it was the invite for the secondary. Also, there was no information on how to access the application in the email.

It says "We are pleased that you have begun the application for Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and we encourage you to submit your completed application electronically.....Most importantly, online submission will also assist the admissions office in streamlining the application process." It sounds like an invitation to me, though.

i dont think its an official invite to complete teh secondary. i started it in june adn thats what i got after i registered. im still havent got the official invite.

I posted a similar thread today before I saw this one, sorry. This thread lacks lists and cohesion though so mine is better.

To verify, Hopkins DOES NOT screen for secondaries. I called a few minutes ago and the lady's response was "We do not expect you to wait to hear from us to fill it out. It is an open invitation. Just fill it out on-line." There were multiple batches of brochures sent out, so that may be why some (including me) have not gotten it yet.

wow dr. chiquita, you get everything so fast. i look to you to see whether i should check my email lol ...so far no jefferson yet 😱

anyone else having difficulty submitting jefferson's secondary? i have no problems logging in or filling in the info, but when i click on the "submit" button, it kicks me out. maybe it's a sign they don't want me? :meanie:

lol, I have SDN on running while I do my work on the computer. And time to time, I check my emails and post on SDN as soon as I get them. That's probably why it looks like I am the only one posting on this thread.

OSU: july 7
Gwu: July 12
Yale, Jefferson, Einstein: July 13

ok, got einstein and jefferson today by email .... im following dr. chiquita from now on, whenever she posts, im heading for the email. these secondaries are pretty fast to fill out, but should i sent them in asap if i cant get my LORs in till sept.?? 😕

ok,the obligatory update:

AMCAS processed 7/7

Secondaries
Ohio State 7/7
WashU 7/7
Yale 7/13
Wright State 7/13

as was the title of an old megadeth album, "so far, so good...so what."

wait just a GD minute, i need to get on my soapbox about something!

these secondaries suck, we all know that. once you accept that fact, they're really not that bad. but one thing is seriously pissing me off: the schools that do this mail-in certification form bullsh/t!!! 😡 😡 for both the ohio state and wright state secondaries, just before you click "submit", they have you pay the fee with a credit card ONLINE. how novel?!!! then you simply check a box that says something like "checking this box is the legal equivalent of a signature." BAM!! you're done!

schools like washu and yale, though, let you fill the app out online, but THEN make you print out some stupid form that you have to MAIL to them with a check (i hate checks). now if you don't mail priority, it will still get anywhere in the country in about 7-10 days, tops, so the waiting isn't too harsh on that front, but then you have to wait for their office to "process" (sound familiar?) your secondary app and cash the freakin' check. until your status page says "complete" this step just gives you extra, unnecessary sh/t to worry about (is it in? did the post office lose it? did the school lose it? what the hell?).

this process is not cool.

sorry everyone, but i needed that!!!!! :meanie: 😉

Hi folks, a question about the Yale secondary that may pertain to all non-rolling schools:

I read the info on the application portion of their website, and it says that because Yale is non-rolling, it doesn't matter when you submit your application.

Is this true? Because if it is, I'm putting off Yale (and all other non-rolling schools) and doing some other secondaries first.

Hye leechy..

itz true that Yale is non-rolling..BUT (speaking from experience b/c i applied there in 2003) the later you apply, you get pushed back in the interview pool. my app was pushed back b/c of the august MCAT and when I finally submitted the 2ndary...there were issues b/c the Yale interview invite was sent by email and alot of people didn't get it....so..they re-sent the interview invitation by email and by the time i got it, it was alread the 1st week of february...long story made shorter..my interview date was the last possible date of their interview season...February26th...soo, it was really a time crunch and I feel like i would have had a better shot with an earlier interview..just a word of advice..i'd work on the others and get them in, but don't sleep on Yale..

Thanks a bunch for the insider info, LR. I guess I'll just have to buckle down and do it. 😳

7/13/04: still waiting on Hopkins..however..i think i'm going to submit it tomorrow anyway.. i've just been waiting to finish up this "rewarding experience" essay..

oh yeah, and i went over to harvard today to snoop around a bit and chat up some folks...this guy in the admissions office said that the 2ndary will be online, but the invite will come via snail mail at the end of this month. soo keep your eyes open kids...hope all is well..

good luck with everything..lol...i'm broke by the way. i intended to put all my secondaries on one credit card, etc..but a lot of these have to be mailed in payments via check or money order and i'm soooo mad that you have to pay cash for money orders.. 😡 but yeah, so i'm broke...

Check out the "Jefferson Secondary" thread. A few of us got a glitch too and are keeping track of when it's fixed.

I've gotten two so far...

MUSC
link to secondary 7/8 (email)

ECU
link to secondary 7/13 (email)

The second essay for the Ohio State secondary asks:

"In the space provided, describe your motivation for a career in medicine and experiences you have had that helped confirm this desire. Please avoid using contractions and quotations. 2750 characters max."

Isn't this just a re-hashing of the AMCAS personal statement (at least for me it would seem like it). What are people doing for this? Are you guys cutting your personal statement to fit the length requirement.

I plan on writing a newessay for this, but it wouldn't say anything new from the AMCAS personal statement. My AMCAS PS focused on motivation/experiences. Any thoughts?

Jason

I just got the EVMS secondary via email 😀

I have started on my secondaries and was wondering if schools even look at them before your file is complete, i.e when LORs have been received. Does anyone know either way?
