Great EC's but only a marginal research experience

I'll have good letters too if my pre-med committee would get on their pony and decide to send them off 🙂

HTH!

oops!! left out this:

nevermind, i saw your location is TN.
yah, i'm an idiot... 😳

can anyone tell me what the UPitt secondary questions are? I am adding them to my school list.

cerb,

one question is like "describe a moral dilemma you've been in" without talking about academic dishonesty; and the other is optional (soemthing about describe what experiences you have or what about you will add to the diversity of their school).

i'm just paraphrasing from memory, though. the full prompts are on one of these threads.

For people who have already received secondaries from JHU, Georgetown, Temple, and UVA, did they come after you were verified or after you went active? And how long after?

See.... I thought I turned off my junk mail filter.... until I saw a nice little e-mail from GW in it. And now I'm paranoid that I deleted e-mails from some of these schools.

One Answer and One question.

Tinkerbell: UVa came about 5 days after I was verified. I did not apply to the other schools you mentioned.

Everyone: Has anyone received a secondary invite from Hopkins that was via email or are the invites only through the snail mail packet? Also, is there anyone else out there who has yet to hear ANYTHING from Hopkins, and how long ago were you verified? Maybe they started screening as well.

Hopkins via snail mail a couple weeks back, directing me to their site. I think most JHU applicants got it about that time.

Has anybody received a secondary from UC Davis? I applied to all the UCs (except for UCI) and have only recieved "receipt of my application" from UCSD and UCSF... Also, does anybody know what the cutoffs are for the UC med schools, esp. UCD, since these schools screen?

Thanks!

Ah ok. Thanks 🙂 At least that's one I haven't deleted...

I have no idea about cutoffs, but UCI, UCDavis, and UCSD are out, though not to everyone yet (i.e. they are still sending them out to people, but some people have already gotten them). I think they go out in waves.

Same here. What's up with having to send in a copy of your AMCAS application? I don't want them to know that I applied to a lot of schools (it's the CA paranoid attitude I guess).

They don't screen. It took about three weeks to get their brochure after I was verified.

to the people who have finished UCDavis and UCI secondaries, you guys work hella fast. congrats. i have all three, ucdavis, uci, and ucsd now and I need to work on them pronto!

For Hopkins: you DO NOT need an official invite, just go to their website and fill it out. JHU does not screen and everybody who filled out AMCAS is eligible to apply. The invites were generic. I received one long after submitting my JH secondary on-line.

Has anyone heard anything yet from West Virginia University? I haven't so much as gotten an e-mail. Tried to e-mail the admissions people and haven't gotten anything back either. Thanks!

FINALLY, i have done the Northwestern secondary....NU, put that in your pipe and smoke it...... 😀

anyone having trouble w/ paying case western online? my lazy ass now has to go get a money order.... 😳

I have not received Hopkins....verifed 6/22 and I already sent the secondary in...in the words of a possible first lady, they can take their invite and "shove it"

...for those lucky ones endowed with the Vanderbilt secondary, I know there are a bunch of us waiting for it. Any chance that you could post the questions? Thanks a bunch....

Here they are:

1. Autobiography: Write a brief autobiography. As completely and precisely as possible, give a picture of yourself, your family, and events you consider important to you. In doing so, identify the values that are of greatest importance to you. If you have completed your undergraduate education, please comment on what you have done or have been doing since graduation. (2000 word limit)

2. Skills: In addition to preparing you to be an excellent physician, Vanderbilt is committed to educating leaders and scholars in clinical practice, basic research, clinical research, education, and health policy. Describe any skills or experiences that have prepared you for one or more of these broader missions. (500 word limit)

3. Research: Discuss the scholarly work or research you have done of which you are most proud. What did you find? What might be the consequences of your work (500 word limit)

Hope you all get your secondaries very very soon! :luck: :luck: :luck:

Hey all. I'm a Vandy undergrad doing research this summer. I was walking past the premed office (the advisor is on the med school admissions committee) and noticed a sign on the door. The secretary was out for a few minutes because she was going to the post office. Could this mean secondary movement?!?

my neurotic pre-med goal of the summer was to complete ALL of my secondaries by august but, alas, this cannot be. even if i were to receive vandy tomorrow, i'd still be waiting on mayo. oh well, 11/13 in july (with one interview invite) ain't bad!

here's to august [superdevil raises his can of diet coke to toast]!!!

Whered you get an interview invite?

Just received an email from UW, saying they're starting to review AMCAS primaries, and will let us know about secondaries soon.

For Tufts, you guys should call and ask for your authorization number. I did that and they told me I can go ahead and send the application.

Excellent, congrats!

i *really* can't wait to get started on vandy. i just went to a wedding two weeks ago and the bride was a peds resident who went to vand med and she talked about it like it was some kind of academic paradise! she was like a saleswoman for VMS! 😀

come on vandy, bring it tomorrow, no whammy no whammy STOP!

please please please....

by the way, nasdr, where do you live? the first person on SDN to get the invite yesterday was a TN resident. i'm up here in OH, and the invite wasn't in the mail today. i've really lost my mind. 😀

Dang, you are just at the forefront of receiving the secondaries (loyola/vandy). You have to tell me your secret.

UCSF sends out about 1400 secondaries. I don't think anybody has received a secondary yet. They sent an e-mail to me yesterday saying that they received my verified amcas, and that I will be hearing from them 3 to 10 weeks from now.
