Ok
Im probably slightly biased towards LECOM but this is just what I think.
Ive never been to PCOM but when I went to LECOM I really loved it more than I expected. Contrary to what other people say on this forum, the students and staff are very friendly and seem willing to help. I like that it is small, that way you can be familiar with almost all of the students and staff. The building is nice and labs are up to date. I was also very pleased to find that Erie is very affordable and apartments are really cheap (compared to where I live at least), and its also small and very quiet which is good when you have to study. Also, LECOMs out of state tuition is lowest of all the DO schools. One thing about LECOMs program compared to PCOM is that they enroll less students which means more people get accepted into LECOMs medical school the following year. I personally spoke with the director of the program, and he told me that almost everyone gets in given you do well. One thing attractive about PCOMs program is that you can do an additional year to get a masters degree. But when I think of it, Im not interested in a masters, I just want to get into medical school. The weather in GA is much better than in Erie in the winter, but I dont really mind it since Im used to lots of snow and I love cold weather. I also read on sdn that in PCOMs program, you dont get to do dissections in anatomy, but you do get exposed to that at LECOM. I read posts by current students saying that LECOM has a pretty high COMLEX passing rate, but didnt hear anything about PCOM. I have a friend who graduated from LECOM and doing his residency in MI now; he told me that LECOM is a great school and provides excellent education, and I felt that he was sincere. But when it comes down to it, Im just really comfortable with LECOM. Overall, I think their program will give you what you want out of it and take you where you want to be. Ive done my research about PCOMs program, but I cant say that I know everything good and bad about it. I think the programs are very comparable, but see whats most important to you (Location? Weather? Tuition?), and make your decision. Hope this helps.
