Thanks,

If you are able to find the exact wording of the question I'd appreciate it, but it obviously doesn't seem as if it will be too time consuming. No worries, but if you run across it, send it my way

Hey Guys!!

Question for you: Last year I submitted my AMCAS application in the summer but took the MCAT in August... and therefore waited until mid-Oct to receive secondaries. I am re-taking the MCAT this August. How important is it that I submit my AMCAS early? Would it be too risky to submit it after taking the MCAT?

Isn't it too early to be creating acceptance/rejection threads when the cycle hasn't even made head way???? This might be useful starting in September or October, but I'd doubt before then.

Dammit, we were "First in Flight" so we might as well be first in this too!

Plus, it sure beats the available entertainment options in NC:

1. Trying to get an accurate number of dogs under porch
2. Staring at the bug zapper
3. Tobacco spitting for distance
4. Mounting yet another rifle rack in the pick-up
5. Planting flowers in the tires you keep stored in the front yard
6. Shooting at road signs
7. PBR...enough said (goes well with #6)
8. Putting an addition on the Dale Earnhardt Shrine
9. Counting down the days until ACC Basketball Season
10. Going to see the new "Duke's of Hazard"

hahaha......how true!!!!!! my bro lived there for a year and thought it was a beautiful state and all, but really missed Florida cuz there was not much for him to do there.

It's more than just an acceptance/rejection thread, just like the ECU/UNC 2005 Acceptance/Rejection thread is more than just that. It's a place for NCers to discuss the app process for the schools in NC, which are primarily ECU and UNC, but include Wake and Duke too because most NC residents will apply to all the schools. We can support each other here, and can help each other out with anything pertainint to the app process.

This is basically the sequel to Franklinthedog's thread from the entering class of 2004 and i6's entering class of 05 thread. I'm a reapplicant, so I wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for the entering '06 class.

And I can get i6, CanIMakeIt, seethrew, travis, UNC-or-Bust, gdubb, tofoo, eminem, andrew88, jnarronecu, and foolsgold to back me up that this thread is appropriate. Maybe even peterock, EvoDevo, Swiper, SingingDevil, and Deacon too. So there! (j/k!) 😉

Didn't find the secondary today. Will look again tomorrow.

gdubb was the keeper of the tequilla on the 2005 thread, but you can be the tequilla keeper on this thread, seilienne, if you want to. 😀

Nice to meet you, too! Welcome to the thread!

Considering I just moved to a place with a wet bar, I'd consider that to be a FINE choice! Now if only I could just turn 21 already. . . . (9 more daaays. . . . AUUUGH!) 😉

Oh ok. That makes more sense. I thought you meant it more literally. But carry on and :luck: with the application process.

hahaha 😀

Just remember to enjoy being young while you are still 20, cuz after 21 the next big bday is your 25th, then 30th, then over the hill 40th, and finally it just goes by every decade from there on...

😀 😉
Oh and go party.

Hey everybody!

Just got the ECU secondary. Keep an i out for yours!

This is the third time today I've tried to post a reply here, I hope it works this time.

In last year's thread, DonkeyD posted a question today about ECU's secondary. It was about the last question in the secondary about what is your reaction to contemporary life in the past few years?

I just thought I'd try again to bump us up so we could discuss this. I think it is open-ended and you can approach it however you want, whether it's about global warming, lack of health insurance, or how you've been partying for the last four years in college. Just make it say something about you and be something interesting to read.

Any other thoughts?

Good luck folks! We got your back, Sally... :luck:

If I apply again, UNC, Wake, Duke....maybe ECU. I just hate re-applying sooooo much. :meanie:

Really, Bust? how can you hate purple? My high school had red and white as its colors, and it was always so tasteless, especially when we all had to wear red robes to graduate in. My undergrad was purple and gold, and i liked that a bit better than red and white. But I looooove Carolina Blue!

In response to your question on the other NC thread, this thread can be whatever we want it to be, whether it's informative, supportive, or any other combination. You're always welcome here, but I hope you get in off the waitlist soon! *crosses fingers*

Thanks, Swiper! 😍

Just got the WFU email saying the AMCAS has been recieved and I would be contacted if any more info is needed ..... they could have just yelled it down the hall and I would have heard them. (I work at Wake Med 100 feet from admissions - quite awkward when your rejected) 👎

LOL, good stuff. I got the email today too :luck:

Hey all- I'm new to all this site but was just wondering if anybody knew how the NC schools are when looking at "non-traditional" students? I'm not too far out of undergrad, an NC resident and am doing some post-bac work. I'm still in the middle of classes and MCAT stuff but just wondering if time away from undergrad and the experiences I've had since then will help? I'm actually not applying til next year but just thought I'd ask since it seems some of you have been through this whole process: it always helps to get advice from someone who's been through it all!

Good luck to all you applicants and the whirlwind of secondaries: I've got some friends in your boat and I'm thinking good things for ya!

UNC loves non-traditional apps.
pull a 30 MCAT get some clinical exp., something hands on, maybe some research (not that important for NC schools) and take class or two over the fall and spring, Biochem 130, BIOL 108 micro, or another competitive class.
Talk to Dr Hoole or Mrs Alston in August at UNC's ADCOM office. Then email or call them once a month about your progress and new ideas to get your name in there.
Good LUCK, oh and visit Sally's thread!!!

What is your reaction to contemporary life? Why medicine? etc.? In 300-500 words.
Huh? Anybody know what they're asking about this contemporary life thing for? Can we ignore it? It seems weird.
Also, what's up with them asking where else you're applying?

Yeah, I thought it was weird, but I filled in the SAT info and the other schools I'm applying to info, and wrote something about contemporary life. I wouldn't ignore it, but I didn't devote much time to it and tried to tie it in with the other parts of my essay.

FYI: if you're using a Mac then the app won't submit online. I emailed the school about it the night it came because I got it done quickly, and couldn't send it. I had to go use a friend's PC, so just a word to the wise.

Back to the beginning.... no me gusta UNC WL. Es importante que recibo un acceptance a UNC rapidemente. 😕

When was your app verified? I still haven't gotten this email :scared:

I was verified on the 13th, and got the email the same day as that poster

Thanks, I'll hope it's coming then. I think you got it on 7/20, about a week later. My AMCAS was verified 7/18, so hopefully next week! :luck:

Lo siento, Bust! You've still got a few weeks, right? Just get your app in again for this year, and hope that you'll get in off the waitlist and won't have to bother reapplying.

Just hit the MCAT books and try not to watch the phone too much.

I was verified July 8th or so, and got the same Wake email the same day the other poster said, if that helps any.

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I got the ECU secondary last week, and completed it the same night, but when I tried to send it I got an error message. I did it again and it still gave me an error message. I sent an email to the office and they said that it didn't work with Mac computers and that I'd have to print it out and send it in by mail.

My question is: what file type did your "supplementary" and "residence" forms save as? Mine saved as pdfs, but when I tried to submit them it said the error was in the file type. Something about "MIME" format. 😕 I went to a friend's house and filled everything out again on a PC and it still didn't work. My essay is a rtf file and my picture is a jpeg, but I just don't know what the other files are supposed to be.

Thanks!

Just out of curiousity, when is UNC going to get off their lazy bums and send out secondaries? I know they screen, which is good, and I read that they give interviews to everyone who gets a secondary. Yes/No?

Also, anybody know how long it takes Wake to finish their screening?

Yes, UNC gives everyone who gets a secondary an interview, assuming the applicant returns the secondary, of course. The procedure last year was you send in the secondary, and then if you haven't been called to schedule an interview by a month later you could call and schedule your interview.

Have no idea about Wake.

Not much life on this thread yet. Last year by this time Wake had given out secondaries to people ... looks like no movement yet. Hopefully something soon but I wouldnt be surprised to get a pre-secondary rejection again. Hopefully UNC starts pumping out secondaries soon. Good luck to everyone.

I didnt get anything once again. DId you guys originally get an email from Wake saying ur file was received from AMCAS and you would be contacted if more info was needed, like 2 weeks ago?

Yeah, I got an email from them about one week ago. Keep your head up, yours is probably on the way :luck: .

Thanks man I said that last yr, never did get a secondary. Can you tell if yours was a mass email, or was it individualized?

I don't know how to tell, but my guess is it was mass? On a side note, studying for biochem finals is fun 😡 !

How would you tell if it was mass?

I got it today also.

I haven't gotten the Wake secondary, but I did get the email a few weeks ago about them receiving my app and they would contact me if they needed any more info.

We do need to relax, though. I was getting depressed about not receiving the VCU secondary when others had, but I just got it this afternoon, so don't worry, give it another week or two.

Good luck, everyone!

I think that is the standard email they send to everyone once they receive your primary app (or AMCAS app) .... and then you are invited for secondary and then it is a good idea to call them after 2-3 weks post-secondary-submission. They are not good at calling you for an interview....you have to call them to check on your app status.

I got the Wake rejection today.... :barf:

I wonder if anyone has gotten rejected from Wake pre secondary and gotten into UNC?

In your opinions is a 3.5 / 31 (9-9-13)S competitive at UNC, very solid EC's, and letters from my PI and an MD i see patients with. Taking some grad school classes now. In state resident.

Does anyone know UNC's policy on out of state applicants? I knew they showed some preference to in-state, but I wasn't sure how much. Then I looked on USNews and saw that UNC only accepts 1.8% out of state applicants. Is it almost impossible to get an acceptance unless you have close ties to the state or some other circumstance? I haven't gotten a secondary yet, I'm just wondering if it's even worth sending in if I do get one.

They are very picky about out of staters. Supposedly around 20 people from out of state are admitted to the class every year, while 140 are usually instate applicants. Seethrew got in for class of 2009 as an out of stater, but she had ties to the state, and good stats if I remember correctly. I'm instate, so I don't really know, but I got rejected from UNC last year as an instater after being interviewed etc.

I don't think they send out secondaries until september, but I could be wrong about that. I haven't gotten a secondary from UNC this year.

I think it's worth it, but it only depends on how much you want to go to the school. If you're only mildly interested, then I wouldn't bother. Maybe others will be better able to answer your question. 🙂

That is rotten, bob, especially since you work there, went for undergrad etc. They should at least give you a chance! I think they just randomly gave out rejections this go-round, because a lot of posters in the "My First Rejection" thread either applied last year like you and got a secondary, or had great stats, and shouldn't have been rejected pre-secondary.

So sorry to hear that. Maybe you can appeal it? March into their office and demand to be reconsidered. :luck:

Hey guys,

Be brutally honest. How good are my chances with a 13-11-N-10 MCAT, 3.73 BCPM and 3.62 AO if I am comfortable with my EC's and LOR's?

You guys that have been around, did any of you hear about people like that that applied to UNC last year? I just want an idea of where I stand.

Try going to mdapplicants.com and searching profiles. I did a search for everyone who applied in 2005 and got an interview to UNC, but I'm not sure if the link will post right, but here it is:

http://www.mdapplicants.com/searchresults.php

There aren't too many profiles, but it might give you an idea about where you stand.

Remember that there are no rules in this game. It's all a gamble, and some people with great stats will get rejected, while others who seem mediocre will be accepted right off the bat.

so, are ya goin' to introduce yourself? 😉

If you are in state, I'd say that you have a pretty good chance with those stats provided all else is ok.
