I think if there is a final decision, they will tell you if your application was 'successful' or 'unsuccessful'. Not sure what they tell you if you are W/L.

Hey mustangsally,
when you said people were calling to get their status, do you know if anyone actually got told what their status was, or do they pretty much tell you to wait for a letter. Didnt know if calling them now would be a good idea or not, or if they even tell you anything over the phone. It seems like they usually just tell you that a decision has been made or hasnt been made, and either way you will find out by mail. Also do you know if for this last batch of applicants did anyone recieve an accpetance letter and no phone call, or were the decisions mainly reject or waitlist?
Thanks,
Kevin P.

I called .. Lisa said that all the decisions that they're making now are WL or unsuccessful~ and they are meeting today.

Thanks Foxy. I was thinking about calling. I guess I know what decision I am getting.

If unsuccessful, does anyone know if it is possible to meet with Dr. Hoole at UNC to discuss next year's application - what can I do to improve my apps etc.

Also, would it be a bad idea to email the interviewers and ask for their candid opinion on what I can do to improve my chances.

Yes, you can do an "exit interview" with Dr. Hoole and he will help you think about what you can do next application cycle to improve yourself as a candidate. I did not do this last year, but my friend who did ultimately said that the kind of feedback you get is vague at best if you do not have anything glaringly wrong with your application.

Hey I had a friend that met with Hoole and he said that he was pretty good and straightforward about his application. I figure it is worth a shot.

good luck

I think 5....atleast 5 official from last year's thread.
Pulled of of UNC today, OOS

OOS = Out Of Stock?

So I guess we're waiting on returns...

I think its Out-o-State
but thanks for trying!!!

Waitlist is not the end of the world, I'm living proof. I was waitlisted last year and look how happy I am 😀

Uhh, I just called and was told they still had decisions to make on all THREE categories - acceptance, waitlist, and rejection....and that all of this would be out by the end of this or next week. So here's to hoping? Hell I don't know what to think anymore.

Thanks for the information foxy and benz. Good luck :luck:

Does anybody know if Wake meets soon... I think the last date was 03/15, so they should be getting the waitlister apps out of their carbonite chamber soon.

good luck

I know someone that met with Hoole after an unsuccesful application cycle. Hoole told him to get his MCAT up (it was 27). He improved his MCAT to 34 and then last year he was waitlisted, but eventually got in late. I guess Hooles advice was pretty good (although pretty much anyone could have come up with that advice on their own) because this guy got 2 other acceptances even before getting off UNC's waitlist.

If you surf SDN enough you can find all the advice you need for your app. The collective experience with the app process on here is remarkable. The only things that Hoole might be able to tell you that SDN cannot is if your LORs or interviews were a problem. I guess maybe it's worth the trip to go see him just in case.

Great post. My MCAT is 27. I am planning to re-take it in August. But I would love to get some feedback on my apps, especially rec. letters.

Thanks!

Hey guys, when I called Wake last monday, I was told that they really dont start looking at their waitlist until after the May 1st deadline (date that you can get your deposit back if you had multiple acceptances). I think there are quite a few wake waitlisters on the forum right now, so I guess its even more of a waiting game for wake. But I was told the majority of the movement wont be until mid May.

Last year people did call and get their status over the phone, but a few people were mistakenly told the wrong information. One person was told she was waitlisted but when she got her letter a week or two later she was actually rejected. So maybe it would be better to wait for the letter

Also, I don't think that just because all decisions may have been made doesn't necessarily mean everyone who has good news has been notified. It seems like the last batch of decisions last year included all three kinds, acceptances, rejections and waitlists.Don't give up hope until you have your letter in your hand! :luck:

Goodluck, hopefully wake's list will really take off in May. :luck:

hey,

Thanks for calling them... assuming we have a randomly distributed sample of applicants represented on the board (which is unlikely), then

0.50 > p of acceptance from alternate pool > 0.30 (aka it is probable on the lower end that 3 out of 10 applicants will be taken off the list and accepted according to their alternate letter up to the first week of classes in July). It will be interesting to see how many people are taken off the list.

Hey Everyone... no calls. 🙁
If anyone is interested here is a lab position for volunteering, possible move to paid. The histology core is run by Kim Burns in Thurston Bowles at UNC Chapel Hill.
The hours are very flexible

Fourth floor, though I don't come to work unless I have stuff to do, which is like 2-3 days a week.
I'll be there tomorrow, what room on the 5th?

BOBODR, I sent congrats on your other thread.

Maybe now you can tell us what the little birdie said.

Anyone recall the details of the ECU deposit - I'm thinking it was $100 refundable before May 15 - someone please confirm or correct this though. Thanks 🙂

Bobodr... That is awesome! Congratulations!

Bobodr,

Are you freaking zooming right now? You should be! Congrats buddy 👍

I read your post a couple of times and I don't think I am getting exactly what you are saying. Probably bc I have been talking to low-level high school students all day, re-explaining addition ploymerization over and over and over again... Anyway, I was wondering just how big is the waitlist for Wake. I mean, when they say 30-50% of the matriculating class could come from that list... How much of the list is that? 1/4? 1/3? 1/2? 3/4?.... Anyone have any insight as to how many are on the Wake list ...? 👍

We know that anywhere from 25-50 ppl will get in off of it (if past results translate this year). But also, how many ppl get in off the waitlist at Wake and some other school that they ultimately chose over Wake? I mean, does the waitlist normally only move one position for each original spot vacated? I think I am muddying the water here... hurting more than helping... so I will leave it at that... 😕

BTW...
Ghent Wevelgem starts @ 6AM EST tomorrow!! 👍
Paris Roubaix THIS SUNDAY!!! 👍 GO GEORGE!! 👍
Oh Yeah! The Masters ALL WEEKEND!!! 👍 👍
WooHoo!!!

Yeah I see what you are saying... you can't base definite probabilities off of their letter.. my mistake. It says that 30 - 50 % of the class may be selected from the list (30% of the class of 100 is 30 people). And perhaps your other point is then what is the list size given that this parameter changes quite often (e.g. people withdrawing from waitlist)? So both the waitlist list size and historical attrition rate for acceptance and waitlist withdrawal are needed in order to calculate a probability.By the way, it doesn't say matriculating class.

My understanding is that they operate on this algorithm:

A. Adcom sets optimal class size at x (x = 100)
B. Data from MSAR suggests that in order to obtain x, that adcom must accept ~2.5x due to the attrition rate (e.g. people withdraw after acceptance or even people withdraw after being waitlisted because
acceptance at another school). Therefore, adcom must establish healthful applicant waitlist.
C. Adcom NEVER overfills the class... only ~ 100 people accepted at a time. The attrition rate lowers the target number due to withdrawals, etc. and thus the adcom pulls from their waitlist queue but never overfills throughout the cycle. Iterative process occurs over whole cycle (accepted drop, draw from waitlist to hit target size).
D. Right now is a lull period in waitlist movement b/c second look weekends, processing fin aid, etc... people can hold multiple acceptances until May 15 I think.. so why give up acceptances so early?
E. Probably after May 15, waitlist moves

According to (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=51012.. older stats):

Format: Applied, Interviewed, Accepted, Enrolled

Wake Forest University Admissions

Total: 5,175 491 274 108
In state: 592 172 103 54
Out of state: 4,583 319 171 54

thanks S., but they may politely escort you off the UNC campus if you try taking my seat....

so I returned a late book the other day, it was 30+ days over-due so they made me buy it!!!
then i asked for the book I just bought and they wouldn't give it bakc b/c I had already returned it...?
$60!!! for a 10 year old anatomy book? that I don't even get to keep?
there's another chip against UNC... they charged my UNC account,
HAHAHA if I go somewhere else I won't pay!!!
though it I made my decision based on money, $8K versus $40K... $32,000 buys a lot of overdue books...

You can't imagine how much this is annoying me!!! GIVE ME MY BOOK!

Do we have any NC State graduates here who have been accepted and are planning on matriculating into ECU? Thanks. I'm waiting to hear from them. I interviewed with them back in October!

UNC -or- BUST.. it's a hard-knock life... I suggest we have a Pit vigil tomorrow to protest and understand this act and try to figure out what "late" really means. You should also blame the library system for creating "lateness" and "elitism"...because it's real trendy at UNC to blame society for problems caused by a glaring lack of personal accountability.

Strategy taken from: The Real World isn't for Me: The UNC Protesting Guide for Over-Educated Liberal Arts Majors with Thesauri written by an UNC alumnus and current Carrboro resident who doesn't shower and consumes only organic foods (NEW edition in 2005: Additional Chapter on Renaming Major Roads to anger local businesses!)

Of course just kidding but you know good and well you could probably get some UNC students to protest

If you don't hear from UNC by next wed/Thursday, 'please give us a call'. That's the word from UNC this afternoon.

Many hearts will be overjoyed and many would be broken - They didn't say that of course!

Has anyone gotten the WL or rejection yet? I havent.

DEG did you call them to find that out? Did they just tell you to call if nothing by next week or is did they say for anyone to. I wouldnt call anyway, I feel done with this process.

I called them today like minutes before I posted here. I assumed that they want anyone to call and find out their status after wed/thurs next week.

That's good info, thanks DEG.

Bobodr, I have not gotten the WL or rejection yet, but if I do I will post it here.

Good luck everyone!

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the UNC info. Hope there are some good letters in there. Goodluck, keep us posted if anyone gets a letter.
Thanks,

grrrr... calling to find status... not cool
Good luck to everyone... WL is not the end :luck:

So, has anyone heard from ECU? Now that they're tied for #6 medical school in primary care with Duke, I am sure it will be harder to get in next year.

I am real interested in ECU (as if I can afford the luxury of being choosy!!). I called them yesterday. They just give you a standard answer - my file has gone through the committee twice. Not sure what that means - does it mean I might still get some love from ECU?

I think ECU is gonna interview people thru April. I am not expecting to hear anything before mid/end of May.

Best wishes to all.
