For those of you who interviewed at Wake and are in the pool that they're deciding on this Wednesday the 19th, did you get the impression that they'll email us right away or wait a couple days? I would hope they'd let us know ASAP. First person to hear from Wake definitely needs to post!

Actually, they told us 6-8 weeks, and they didn't start interviewing til 10/3. I would think that they should be able to get to the first batch sooner, though, so hopefully you're right! I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the support! 🙂

Wow - so I am guessing I have been reviewed and passed up then. Solid! I was complete June 15th.

Last year the word at UNC was that they had adcom meetings on Mondays, and people who were accepted would usually get a telephone call on Monday evening sometime, or in the next few days depending on the particular interviewer, because your adcom interviewer would usually call the person to let them know they were accepted. Last year meetings were every two weeks, and we'd get really frantic on Monday evenings, making sure cell phones were charged and watching caller ID for CH numbers.

A few adcom interviewers appeared to prefer to notify you by mail or email, so some people who were accepted didn't get a phone call. But I thought I'd let you guys know that so the waiting can begin tonight, the first Monday of the regular admissions season where it's possible to hear a decision.

And Bob, don't be so pessimistic. your time will come. UNC is notoriously slow in reviewing applicants and getting secondaries out, at least compared to schools who are very prompt. We're all rooting for each other on this thread, so be patient. good things come to those who wait.

I wouldnt worry if I was you. There is a big difference between being complete 7/29 and me at june 15th. I am in the first two week of verified AMCAS's while you are just under review now according to whoever you talked to on the phone.

And Sally I know I am pessimistic but once again my application is not really going anywhere...

I haven't gotten a secondary either. My AMCAS was processed on 8/15/05, and I'm out of state. Good luck with all of this 🙂

I wouldn't worry too much about secondaries from UNC. They will filter out over the next month or so, and interviews run until Through March. Rolling admission at UNC is just that, rolling. I believe it shows that they really do look at the applications. But very fustrating, just look at last year's thread. Good luck, and if you don't get an early interview its ok because I remember several people interviewing in February getting in before November invites.

A note about carolina's secondary:

I just spoke with the associate dean of admissions at a career fair (go state) to ask about secondaries, he said he recognized my name and I should be fine and to follow up with him next week because he's going out of town. He seemed puzzled as to why I hadn't gotten one yet, but said they were VERY behind. He called his assistant to look for my application and said "look in the pile on my chair." So to ya'll still waiting to hear from chapel hill, hold your horses because they're doing the best they can.

Thanks, mustangsally65. I interviewed in the first week of September. The acceptance (I love the sound of that!) came in a standard letter size envelope, but with 5 or 6 pages, so it is not the dreaded "thin". Oh, and it was post marked Oct.18th. Hope that helps. Congrats! You'll be fine, both of mine were really low-stress. There was only one other person there interviewing when I interviewed, so it was nice. Once everyone has arrived, they give you sealed envelopes with your interviewer's names on them, and you take the envelope and go to the person's office, which is kind of nerve-wracking in case you are afraid of getting lost. The Brody building is pretty easy, though, because it's kind of a square with a hallway that goes all the way around, so as long as you are on the right floor, you can keep walking until you find the office number.

It was kind if weird handing the envelope to the interviewer and watching as they read the information on there. I'm thinking they get your GPA, and maybe where you did your undergrad? Or maybe your hometown? Not too sure, but I don't think they get your MCAT score. Which was weird, because I thought they did.

My interviews were very conversational, then you went back to the admissions office, and the students gave you a tour of the Brody Building and then you go to the hospital for lunch. I thought the lunch was really good, they had a huge variety of food in the cafeteria like soup, salad, chicken, Italian, sandwiches etc. It was very busy, though.

We ate lunch with the two med students who were the tour guides, so it was a small group of four. Very nice, and we talked about a lot of things. Then you go back to the admissions office and get a talk from Dean Peden, and then the day is over, around 2 p.m. I really liked it there.

Just incase there's anyone else out there compulsively checking their email to hear from Wake Forest (since the admissions committee met yesterday), I just wanted to let you know that I gave in and called to ask when they'll be emailing us and they said not until Monday or Tuesday of next week. I guess they're still counting votes or something. I just had to know! Haha.

I called on Tuesday. I got the same line other people on this board have gotten and one other person I know who called up the Friday before me. "we have already gone through 1600 applications. You are still in the review process but based on your amcas verification date (6/15/05) you should hear back one way or the other within a few weeks or so". I have a feeling even if I were granted an interview it would just be similiar to what happened to me at RWJ last year. An interview where you dont have a real shot to get in. I had an amazing interview at RWJ last year with the dean (I felt this and then when I called later to see how to improve my app they said my interviewer had lots of great stuff to say about me) yet I got waitlisted and not even put in a spot where its possible to get in. So what was the point of my interview there? If I had a bad interview I would have been rejected, if I had a great interview I get put on the bottom of the waitlist with no hope. Should have sent them my travel bill 👎

Shahab, thanks for the update. I guess I just need to have more patience. Since a secondary means an interview invite as well, maybe the screening process is more thorough with UNC since it means they will definitely be meeting with you. I can see where that would take more time to get together. I'll keep hoping for the best and maybe we will all hear something by the end of next week. Good luck to all.

Finally got the UNC secondary today! I guess the dean I talked to last week was telling the truth when he said I'd be fine, but it sure was a nervous couple of days. Anyways, I'm in-state and I got the email saying they got my AMCAS on August 22 if that helps anybody figure out how long they have to wait.

My AMCAS was complete on July 18th. I am in-state too. I still hope I do get a secondary from UNC. It will be a heart-breaking event to get a rejection.

Web based application, to me, means applications submitted right on their website like many other schools. But I only see their word/pdf files that we will have to complete, print out and mail it to them.

I hate to say this, because I'm really not trying to be negative, but last year I interviewed at the end of January, and got my rejection letter at the end of April: three months went by before I heard anything.

I think if they're interested they will let you know sooner: however, some people last year interviewed in Oct/Nov and didn't hear until the end of April either. Hopefully this year UNC will be a bit more prompt.

Well to everyone who is waiting on UNC, here is what i have dug up, dont know exactly how accurate it is though. Apparently the first interviews were given starting 10/3, and the first round of acceptances I heard was 10/17, but i havent heard of a single person getting in yet, so i doubt that. Anyways, the way it has been done in the past is they hold their committee meetings every two weeks on monday, and then the people who interviewed you call you that night, however i have heard of people getting acceptance letters, but most get calls. So if the dates i heard are right, that means that this monday would be a meeting, and hopefully the first round of acceptances. I just got interviewed this past monday, and i was told that it would be 1-3 months before I heard back. So i'm hopin by xmas, but i have no other interview invites yet 😕 so im starting to stress this stuff already, gonna be a lonnnngggggg semester. goodluck

I'm a Virginia resident currently living in Atlanta (claimed as a dependent by my VA-residing parents). However, they own a house on the outer banks, and pay NC property taxes on it. I highly highly highly highly doubt it, but does this mean I have a chance of being a resident?

I don't know why UNC wouldn't meet sometime soon before the interviews start backing up and they get overloaded. But then again, I'm not a bureaucracy, so I'm used to things making sense...

Thanks for the happy birthday wishes Sally. I just emerged from my gross anatomy block and finally have time to breathe again.

To all: I interviewed at UNC last November and received my rejection over the phone in April. If the waiting is difficult for you, I suggest becoming an alcoholic. It worked for me.

Em1: I don't think they will count you as a resident. Their residency requirements are very strict.

Even though I am a student at Wake, I don't really have any inside info on their admissions process (nothing that you all don't already know). All I can say is keep checking in with them (they like to know that you are interested). If you get waitlisted, as most do, don't give up because they typically have a lot of waitlist movement. PM me if you have any specific questions that I can answer for you.

To all NCians: I hate to be the messenger of bad news but I have just heard that the BOG scholarship is no more. Seethrew, Peterock, Tofoo and I are among the final recipients of this award. A written statement has not yet been released, but I believe that in the future, the BOG award will be a loan which may or may not be forgivable with a NC service commitment. Bad for the state in my opinion, but maybe they had too many recipients landing plastic surgery residencies in LA. Who knows.
