Sorry to hear that, WholeLottaGame and MrBurns. But the waitlist is good, much better than a rejection. Lots of people came off Wake's waitlist last year, one I remember in particular was Medikit. I would think a lot more would be coming off of it this year since Wake seems to be interviewing a lot less people this year. Or is it just that they aren't sending out as many secondaries?

Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. It's way early in the game, so I hope you will hear good news from Wake before classes start next fall!

As for me, I need to get a secondary first! 😳

I don't want to increase your nervousness or anything... but yes, I think the adcom does meet on Mondays. (When I got my acceptance they called me that night to let me know.) But I hear it takes much more time for UNC to get answers back to regular admissions students... so if you don't get a call tonight, don't freak out or anything! 😱

Last year the word on the street was that the adcom at UNC met every other Monday, but sometimes it would be every three weeks or every week depending on holidays, breaks etc.

We used to convene here on Monday evenings and worry about our fates. Make sure your cell phones are charged and stay off the phone! 😛 Look for that UNC area code!

Even early interviewers sometimes didn't hear until the spring, so don't get your hopes up too much. Good things come to those who wait!

I was just wondering...I got the UNC email back on August 22 saying they received my application, but are waiting on my MCAT scores...I still haven't gotten a secondary yet despite my MCAT scores now being available, but I have a friend who also took the MCAT and submitted his application after mine (I was verified in late July while he was in late August) and he received a secondary invite (we're both in-state)...it just seems like they would review my application first for a secondary because I sent mine in before his...can anybody explain what's going on? And will talking to the admissions office get me a secondary any faster? Thanks a bunch.

I'm pulling for all of you waitlisters at Wake. Historically they accept a large percentage of their class off the waitlist, so you've still got a pretty good chance.

Thanks, mustangsally! I think I'm actually going to withdraw from Wake because it's not one of my top choices (just personal preference...I'm more of a city girl), but good luck to everyone on the waitlist and good luck to you, Sally! I think you're going to make a great doctor someday 🙂

Just kidding. I'm a big fan of The Simpsons and Mr. Burns has always been one of my favorites. I'm also not the girliest of girls (just ask WholeLottaGame)...like, I'm into sports, video games, inappropriate humor, etc. So it seemed fitting. I also really like Groundskeeper Willie. The letter does say that our applications will be looked at during all the future committee meetings. And from my US News book, Wake accepts more than twice the number of people needed to fill its class.

I can think of places I'd rather go to school but, until I get interviews at those places or an acceptance somewhere else, Wake looks pretty good to me. i really liked it on my interview day.

A friend of mine who interviewed on Oct. 10th got accepted on Oct 24th, so we were wrong about adcom meetings too, so every other monday would make it NEXT Monday. Oh well, guess my application has been passed over at least once. 😡

Well I meant I just got the secondary by email. I guess I jumped the gun a bit about the invite, but since everyone who gets the supplement gets one it felt good to say. I am gonna over night mine. I really want to interview before thanksgiving if possible...

Also which essay did you guys do. They seem rather unbalanced. Either write a page about your qualities and experiences or option 2, just list 5 qualities. Do you think it matters? 😕

Congrats on your secondary offer. I would love to do the interview before thanksgiving as well.

As for the essay, I did the essay (option 1) just because I felt it was easier for me to write a page of essay than list five qualities. I can't find even one quality that I can list let alone five!!

Congrats, Bob! I'm so glad you got the secondary, I know how anxious you have been to get it (haven't we all? 😛 ).

So next Monday is the first night we offically convene and wait for phone calls. I think the average time to get them is around 7 p.m., but each interviewer is different and some will wait a few days before letting you know, while others don't call and will send you a letter.

Thanks Sally. Surprisingly its not the emotional high I was expecting 😳 Guess I kind of just grew into the belief I wouldnt be getting one, now its just here and its another interview to go to. I just interviewed at NYMC though and really liked it, too bad they dont get back to you post interview for 10-12 weeks 😡

I just withdrew from Wake (post-secondary) as well. It certainly feels weird to do, but also I think it is the proper thing to do.

I chose option 2 for two reasons.

1. They should have read enough about my experiences in the primary... I had no interest in coming up with another one to write about!

2. Despite what golftrippy said, I have to say that I think coming up with 5 qualities is easy!

For example:
potential to be a great doctor
too much care for the less fortunate (to show a flaw)
dedicated to high moral standards
incredibly hard working
breathtakingly good-looking 😛
