Hey DeaconDan, if you got pre-sec axed at Wake, talk to Dr. Lane, he will talk to the adcoms

Says who? I got pre axed at Wake and he didnt do crap for me.....And I def thought I was deserving of a secondary (3.5 and a 31)

Not to worry yet...if you look at last years thread, interviewing in Oct. or Nov. was a BIG advantage. None from that time got rejected, and all but two were eventually accepted, but each was accepted at varying times...UNC just likes making people really angry/anxious/crazy during the admissions cycle.

i interviewed in november last and got rejected. guess i just suck. +pissed+

Sorry xraygray...but you have to admit it is an advantage interviewing early...and no you don't suck

Says him...didn't you get that email...if not ill foward

youre right, interviewing early is def. an advantage and i dont suck...that much. i do hope i get that secondary soon, though. just give me another chance unc.

on a fun note...im about to leave the lab to go to a party celebrating my, and a buddy of mine's, first acceptances.

congrats xray gray...you are going to be a doctor...knock back a cold one for us waiting on that first glorious acceptance

I don't know, this is my second year of being pre-sec axed from my alma mater (I'm beginning to think it doesn't help that much). I of course talked to Dr. Lane and even though I improved MOST of my MCAT, they were still a little down about me not improving on VR (8 both times). So I talked to Dr. Lane and the admissions lady there and they basically said they were being nice by not giving me the run around and wasting my money on a sec. Nice thought I get, but still sucks for me....
Oh well, there's always my other schools, I guess all my hypothetical money will only be going to the Reynolda campus.

One more thing, I think Wake is really big on really good GPAs. My gf did really well on the MCAT, but had an average GPA...denied, and everyone else that I know that went there had 3.7+, so maybe they're sticklers about that

Pre or post secondary? I have a good MCAT, bad overall GPA and okay science GPA. I received the secondary, but then heard nothing for a long time... until I withdrew.

Hey guys, I was just reading over the latest posts in this thread. I interviewed with UNC on 10/24, last monday havent heard anything yet, which i didnt plan on. But from wut i was reading do you think that this monday they will be meeting, so that would be my first shot of getting in, or getting the boot, however it works out? Just curious if anyone knew for sure if they were meeting or not, also i saw someone got accepted on 10/28 which is a friday, so didnt know if they were doing things differently this year.
Thanks guys, goodluck, Im startin to get nervous, unc is my top choice, and i havent had any other interview invites, EEEEEKKKKKSSSS

DeaconDan

You sound like me except my real/hypothetical money will not be going to Wake at all. I got rejected twice from there too pre secondary. Tise told me to do the Georgetown SMP or retake the MCAT because I just wasnt competitive there because I didnt have double digits in every section (9-9-13) with a 3.54 from there own school. What a joke

BOBODR
Yea I do not get the "alumnus connection" not sure if it works...I would think with your numbers you would get a swing up being an alumnus.

SailCrazy
Why did you withdrawal your application??? If you got the secondary your chances of an interview are better than most and all interviewees automatically go on the waitlist, which causes a large waitlist, but its better than rejection. Anyway, good luck with everything else.

To everyone else,
I talked to UNC last week, they said that I should call next week if I don't hear from them by then. Should I be looking for a rejection/secondary in the mail or on email? And is there a day that they generally send that stuff?

Hey,

From my experience last year, no one got rejected post-interview until late April. But I don't think you will hear something this soon, unless they are really on top of things. Last year's thread (which is linked on the first page of this thread) showed that most people had at least a month between interviewing and being called, and getting the call was rare. It was much more likely to just wait for several months before hearing if you were accepted. I don't think they handed out any waitlists until the end of April either, so if you are a so-so candidate (as I was last year) you may not hear anything until later on in the spring.

I hope this doesn't get you down too much, but with most schools it's pretty slow. Even really good candidates had to wait two or three months last year before getting an acceptance.

Just realize that you have made it this far: they interview about 400 in-staters, and ~140 seats are for in-staters. I'm not sure how many acceptances are handed out in total, but these odds aren't too bad. The waiting is the hardest part. Good luck, we'll all be waiting with you!

thanks for the input about the unc deal. I am a so-so candidate, nothing spectacular and prettty low scores(10,10,9v,Q, 3.72). So i am getting a little anxious, I just wish ecu or wake would offer me an interview, i think that would take some pressure off atleast. Oh well, i didnt really expect to hear something from unc so soon, just hoping against hope i suppose. preciate the info though, i'll keep you guys updated on the progress or lack there of.
goodluckk,

Hey congratulations BOBODR on the invite. Good luck!

Thanks confuse. By the way, the long term residency form is ridiculous

In the last 3 years list in chronological order all the places you have been for more than 3 days, including vacations.... 👎

It sucks but I guess its worth an interview and then the anxiety that will follow that. 🙄

Congrats, xraygray! Was it an NC school?

nope. EVMS. i really liked the school. i was in the midst of re-learning stuff to retake the MCAT in April because I didn't think my 28 was going to cut it, so im pretty pumped that i dont have to do that anymore. kind of expensive, though (37K).

golftrippy,
thanks. i knocked back too many cold ones last night. feeling a little rough and now have to go try and make some transgenic mosquitoes. sucks. good luck on that acceptance. tip: don't celebrate it on a weeknight.

I've been fortunate enough to pick up a couple of early acceptance at some of my top choice schools, which also happen to be in-state (read: cheaper & closer to friends & family.)

While I am curious to know if I would have received an interview, and would have liked to check out the school, I couldn't justify spending the $$$ to travel to a school that realistically I wouldn't choose over one of my state school options. Once that decision was made, it seemed to be the proper thing to do to withdraw now rather than let the committee spend any more time on my file.

It was a difficult decision, but I think the right one for me.

See, they explicitly told us that we'd hear SOMETHING from them 6-8 weeks after the interview. Will they at least tell you you are on hold or something? I will be fairly perturbed if they just leave us hanging til April.

I'm not really sure what the answer to that is. I simply waited for correspondence through the mail, because nothing was through email last year. By the time 8 weeks had gone by, it was the end of March, so I just waited until the interview season was over. I got my letter the last week of April.

From what I observed last year, they won't let you know unless you are accepted. But I really don't know what would happen if you called them up after 8 weeks and asked. My guess is that they would tell you they were behind and that you would hear something as soon as decisions were made. But I didn't call them last year, so I really can't say. Maybe things are a bit different this year: maybe they will email you after 8 weeks and say that you are on hold, if they haven't decided to accept you yet. My understanding from last year was that no one was rejected post-interview until all interviews had been conducted, which I think runs through the first week of April. Then they have to review everything and then get back to people.

I really don't know what to tell you, except that we can't do much about it. UNC is slow to send out secondaries, and last year was slow to send out decisions post-interview if they were'nt immediate acceptances.

I hope things are more organized this year, but there's really no way to tell until some of you guys with early interviews reach the 8-week mark. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Good luck tomorrow, golftrippy! I tried to stay at the Holiday Inn Express, but they were booked. I wanted to be able to go to my interview, and when they asked me some hard question I could say "No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night." 😀

I'm crossing my fingers for you guys who have interviewed at UNC so far. I'm still waiting on my secondary ( 😳 ) but I can't wait to hear about all the good news in the next few months! :luck:

What's the story with UNC's secondary, does it come through the US mail or by email. And same with Pitt for that matter. I wasn't going to apply there, but I'm actually at Pitt now for the semester on temporary displacement from Tulane. So I'm looking to hear from both of them. (I'm expecting to hear from UNC soon though).

They both screen, they both take their time, and they both come by email. They were the last two I received.

Hey guys, big day tomorow so i hear. Goodluck to all you UNC ppl, I just interviewed there 2 weeks ago, and i know i shouldnt hear back till atleast December, but mannn im getting pretty nervous about tomorow anyways. Hoping against hope i guess. Keep us updated if anyone gets that call.
goodluck,

Just got the UNC secondary today! Do they contact me for an interview after the secondary has been submitted and reviewed, or can I call and schedule an interview now? I am just wondering, how long does it take between secondary and interview?

Thanks.

Wake Forest guys -- I interviewed on 10/11 and got my decision via email today.

Hey congrats. After you submit your secondary, they just check to see if you have included everything. Then they will call you. They are pretty efficient. I dropped my apps off one day and the next day they called me to schedule an interview.

I hope my rejection doesn't come that fast too ! *S*

Hope is what keeps us alive!

Congratulations! I am interviewing there later this week...a little nervous because I really love the school, but I'm sure it'll be ok.

Just got accepted off of the Wake alternate list. Seems a little soon since I was waitlisted last week, but who's to complain!

Congrats, deacondan! They seem to be really slow this year, since only a few of the peeps on this thread have gotten secondaries/interviews.

Hey guys, thanks for the encouraging words...my ECU interview went well and I got an Emory invite today so maybe today will be my day all around...(come on UNC!)

So I just turned in my UNC secondary. Long Form of residency was a pain. Anyway 3 questions..

1) When UNC does call how do they offer interview dates and how far ahead are they. Say I get a call late tis week will it be like pick a date in the end of November or will it be in Dec/Jan?

2) After you schedule your interview do they send you anything in the mail? Interviewer names, schedule, parking info, etc?

3) How are UNC interviews in general, stress? healthcare? AMCAS info? Open file? The UNC interview feedback isnt much and I know some people on here interviewed last yr, what did you think?

I am pretty sure they will call soon and you should be able to schedule it this month. They will tell earliest day they could interview you.

2) After you schedule your interview do they send you anything in the mail? Interviewer names, schedule, parking info, etc?

They don't send anything in the mail. They will ask you to confirm your interview the day before your scheduled interview date. From the parking deck, its 4 to 5 min. walk to their office.

3) How are UNC interviews in general, stress? healthcare? AMCAS info? Open file? The UNC interview feedback isnt much and I know some people on here interviewed last yr, what did you think?

I am going there on Wed. (11/09/05). I can let you know after wed.

In answer to your last question. UNC interviews are known as a mixed bag. They are open file--and some interviewers are known to grill you on "weaknesses" in your file. Also, some people have gotten grilled on healthcare/current events in medicine. A girl I interviewed with was forced to defend her desire to go into primary care against an interviewer who told her that career path was for those who couldnt do anything else. Thats the bad side. The good side--I think this is the exception, not the rule...my interviews were laid back, the hardest questions I got were about the biggest problem in health care and what obstacles I had overcome in my life. So prepare for some health care questions, be able to defend your file, and you'll be fine...good luck!

Christmas came 1mo 18d early for me this year. In the form of a phone call from my interviewer at UNC. Must...maintain...composure. Going to go run off some excess energy. Aaaaahhhhhhhhh.

Good luck everybody!!! :luck:
