Bob! Your call will come. Last year when I did my secondary it had a note on it that said to wait four weeks after submitting your secondary, and if they hadn't called you by then you were supposed to call them and schedule an interview. Give it some time. Obviously you were high enough on thier list to get a secondary/interview, so just have some patience. Good things come to those who wait.

One girl I interviewed with last year (last week of Jan.) got her acceptance call the first week of March. So there are plenty of acceptances go to around in the spring. Try to stay positive. 👍

Thanks Sally, I hope you gets yours real soon. I dont know the validity of this statement, but one of my friends called today (they interviewed late january last yr and didnt get in) and asked whats going on with her app. Lisa told her they had 500 more apps this yr and were behind, and that reapplicants are looked in a different way (time?). So hopefully you will hear soon.

I would say yes, a couple people have turned in their secondaries to unc and are still waiting for the interviews, but mine for instance, i turned in the secondary, and got the interview call within a week. Regardless if it takes 1,2, or even 3 weeks to get your call, their interviews are very close to the date you called. Like they called me on a wednesday, and asked if i wanted to interview mon, tues, or wed of the following week. Most people have had the same options, so dont fret too much about the phone call, since your interview will be within a week or so from your phone call,

I got my UNC secondary last year during Thanksgiving week. I was an August MCATer, so I'm hoping my secondary will finally come sometime in the next week. Then I get to wait around for an interview call, and then wait around to find out if I'm in or not.

All I know is they have had my secondary for 2 weeks now. Yet no phone call to schedule. I will be gone for most of December into January. Very frustrated. Most people get called within 2 days after submitting, what is the deal?

If you feel this strongly about it, then call them, Bob. I don't think it will hurt. And sorry about telling you to have patience, the only reason I say that is that last year they told me on the secondary application that if I hadn't heard from them in 4 weeks that I should call to schedule an interview. So to me, 4 weeks seems like a reasonable amount of time based on last year's process. I think the stellar applicants on SDN are kind of skewing this, since people who seem to be better candidates get calls back much sooner than those of us who are a bit more average. If you are going to be gone in December, use this as a topic to start the conversation when you call. Just say you are going to be out of town for the holidays soon and wanted to know if you could schedule an interview. I'm sure they'll go ahead and schedule you.

I got it in mid-October (a month after AMCAS was verified in September), turned it in the first week of November (they give you two weeks to turn it, I took my time on the essay instead of filling out the five attributes... I think it is a trick question. If you pick the 5 things, you are lazy in their book because the essay is a great opportunity to showcase your stuff and continue on the themes in your AMCAS statement).. they called me two days later and scheduled an interview mid-month (within 1.5 weeks).

Oddly enough.. everyone at the interview were hard science majors (biochem engineers, biochem, and biology (soft science,lol), and the admin office told us that they had received more than expected applications (I think they are mainly out of state, so should not affect in-state residents greatly). Basically, they are bogged down now I think.

I have a feeling that the admissions com. did not meet today because of the upcoming holiday. Just a guess.

A caveat: If you don't feel comfortable writing an essay based on their topic, then don't do it. They want honest applicants. If you are 22 year-old getting ready to graduate and saved the world with your stunning independence and initiative (I'm being cynical here), then I suspect that this would be more disfavorable compared to the five attributes. Do what you feel most comfortable with, but essays are great chance to let people know more about you.

Well unless you are me. Then they just charge you 65 $, and say they are behind. Then when other people submit there secondaries way after you, they get calls to schedule interviews within two days.

No my MCAT is a 31. I am a Biology major from Wake Forest. If research is their selection criterion then I expect a full scholariship. I have volunteered a year in a Wake Forest Med neuro lab, have 2 years worth of class credit for undergrad research, received a Wake Forest Fellowship to do research during a summer, and for the last year and a half have done research in the Rheumatology Dept (desired speciality) at Wake Med, with publications. I seriously doubt its my lack of research holding me back. I just wonder why they gave me a secondary when they did and now are blowing me off....

You can't beat the Florida thread! No thread can beat the Florida thread. Well, except that one that was originally about a conviction but then went onto spanking...but in quality the Florida thread is unmatched. Just accept it and move on.

And I was absent last night because here in the mountains we got a couple inches of snow. Well, I shouldn't say snow, since the temp dropped 10 degrees in an hour and the precipitation was very big and wet. There was a lot of slush last night, and since my internet is satellite, the dish gets frozen over and as long as it's snowing I can't get a signal. 😡 I live in the boonies so there's no cable, and my dial-up used to run at the uber-fast speed of 28K, because the phone lines are so old that my 56K modem couldn't go faster than that.

This morning the temp is about 30F, so everything is pretty dry. But there's still about 2 inches of white stuff on the ground. I went out and cleaned the dish so I could get online! Still no secondary, though!

Cheer up, guys. It's way early to hear from UNC, the exception is to hear this early, as most people get their acceptances in the spring semester. And since they are supposedly behind, it's entirely reasonable that things will be going slower than usual.

Haha, well the truth of it is that we rarely talk about med school. Right now we're on a discussion about people having sex while others are in the apartment, which was preceded by discussions of pro football players we'd like to do and DNA porn with Jeff Goldblum. I mean we talk about FL stuff sometimes, but really it's all just to pass the time at work.

I asked my committee interviewer about when they meet and how often they meet, but she told me that there is no set schedule, they meet when they can. Where did we get the information about meeting on every other monday? And there are 600 more applicants this year??!! In state or out of state? Sounds like things are going to be a bit more competetive this year.

I got a letter in the mail saying my residency had been established as NC so I know thats not the problem. Does everyone get this letter? Anyway hopefully they call soon. In the meantime I will pop a Xanax. 👍
