Has anyone ever sent a Letter of Interest to UNC post-interview (or ECU or Wake)? and does anyone have an opinion on whether it would be welcomed or helpful?

I was wondering the same thing. I have interviewed with UNC, ECU, and Wake, but all within the last month or so, I wrote thank you notes to all the interviewers already, but i figured I would give them through December before I start bothering them with repeated calls, and letters of interest. In fact, my interviewer at ECU said he wasnt supposed to tell me but he will anyways, that most schools do keep a record of who has called with interest regarding their application process. So, i figure the more calls the better, and if i cant sleep with all this med app stuff, then why should they be able to 😀

It is needless paperwork, with everything they already have to look over another item, especially one that was not asked for, will likely be ignored. Your better off taking another tour of the clinical environment and updating your committee member.
To the girl wearing NC State colors during her campus tour at UNC on Tuesday...tisk tisk...I love watching the interviews walk around during the tours, you could walk them in a circle around the waiting room and they wouldn't notice, the only thing they are thinking about is the past interview or the coming one......Relax

i did. i got in off the oos waitlist the first day. did it help - i dunno. did it make me feel as if i covered all my bases - yes. i sent them i think two one at the new year and one in the spring. i actually did have stuff to update them on - like nominations for scholarships and community service work and i also restated my interest in going to school there. i also did this with duke and again i was taken off the waitlist in the summer. i am really not sure if it helps, but i for sure think that so long that it is well written it will not hurt.

Hey guys! I am new to the thread and just got my supplemental application from UNC. I wanted to write the essay question about the same thing I wrote my AMCAS essay about. What are your thoughts? Could those of you who have already interviewed tell if your interviewer had looked over your AMCAS application or just your supplemental?

Each of my interviewers reviewed both the AMCAS essay and supplemental to the extent of highlighting statements and asking me further questions. Of course, some might not.

If you went into great detail in the AMCAS essay, it might not be a good idea to turn in a clonal essay unless you can introduce enough conservative permutations of the original theme to highlight the aspects of the question. The listing 5 things is deceivingly easy to me, but someone made a great point that people get tired of reading things, and it's a great starting point for an interview. Do whatever you feel comfortable with.

I wouldn't necessarily look too much into it. I think the committee meets on Monday afternoons and calls people after that. Why he would A) know on a Friday and B) want to tell your PI instead of you? Does he have a work-related reason to want to talk your PI? Like, is there any relation between his specialty and what your PI does?

🙂 They both were really awesome people to talk to. I really enjoyed both of my interviews at UNC and Wake Forest. The faculty and students at both schools seemed very helpful and collaborative and that's what I'm looking for in a med school.

So... thats kind of weird story. After I was accepted my interviewer asked if I would mind him sending my PI some information about the interview and my application process... what is the deal with that! Difficult to say.

No work related reason to see my PI. My PI has been here for 9 years and does not know the interviewer, it would be a hell of a coincidence for them to need to meet the week after I interviewed and it not be about me! You are right, though, it is probably nothing really. But come on, in this long, drawn out process, it seems like an event!

Thats a good thought, but my PI is a big plant genetic researcher. I'm fairly sure he wouldn't be interested in doing interviews for the med school, even though he is a UNC researcher.

I didn't apply to Duke, so my one and only interview has been at ECU this year. But it's still early. Our secondaries will come eventually.

Well, I finally heard something from UNC. I got a thin envelope in the mail today. Last year I at least got a secondary, but apparently this year they decided to skip the interview and just flat-out reject me. Oh well. I hope some of you guys get good news today!

Thanks for being so supportive, guys. 😍 I'm really not too upset because my interviews last year kind of gave me a negative impression of Carolina. I still would have been thrilled to get accepted there, of course, but there are other schools. All you really need is one acceptance somewhere.

Now all I need are some more interivews.

Has anyone who attended an out-of-state university come into conflict with the NC residency status? My UNC interview schedule is delayed because my residency status is in continuing resolution. 🙁 I have been away for college for 4 years and have not filed tax in NC. To make matter worst, I got myself a CA driver license last year. If you have been in this situation, can you please provide me some insights? Thanks.

MustangSally... sorry to hear about UNC... but they're not the only fish in the sea, though 🙂

re: in-state vs. out-state residence... I'm in-state so I don't know many details, but someone told me that you have to work in NC for a year and file taxes to claim domicile (for instance, staying in NC for a year as a student doesn't count). However, you don't always have to file taxes in NC if you make below a certain amount (I didn't file either state or fed last year). The best thing is probably to just talk it through with the University because the only thing that matters is what they think!

Also, I think many of the adcoms are probably going on break, many of us have exams.. good luck everybody and see you back in January.

There are several hotels within sight of the Brody building. I tried to stay at the Holiday Inn Express but they were booked, so I ended up at the Courtyard by Marriott. Greenville is pretty easy to navigate, so I'm sure you'll find a good place to stay.

I would join you if I were not a 'family guy'. But why are you already thinking about Carribean? Give NC and other U.S schools a shot this year, next year..and then I can understand Carribean!
